Thank you for this amazing video Oliver - both informative, but also cool to see how musically you are using the engine. A couple of observations (and answers): 1. We will add 4 more LFOs (8 in total) in next couple of weeks. Just for you. ; ) 2. We will add ability to hide directories that aren't populated too. :) 3. We are working on X/Y morphing. It was Blake Neelys first suggestion too btw. 2022. 4. Agree with pitching more than +12. It is a bit complicated technically speaking, but we will get there. 5. Independent FX assign of each part can be done. We are trying to preserve simplicity here. Up for discussion. 6. Arp > Individual Step-Length. 2022. Cheers, Troels
Thanks Troels! You have created something really special here. ^ THIS is what I'm talking about and why I'm so optimistic about the future of Soundpaint. I post a video with a handful of suggestions and within a few hours you're already listening and working to add them into the engine. That says a lot and I hope everyone (composers and devs alike) take note. I agree about the simplicity as that's part of the beauty of the whole thing. Really looking forward to those LFOs :)
“It’s a passion project”, I fully agree with that statement. I am super excited about Soundpaint, too. Thanks to it, I discovered your channel. Great review and nice playing and patches!
FFT filter to morph between a soft and hard velocity sample. Essentially one sample adopts the harmonics of the other. The morph is controlled by velocity. Hence 127 distinct velocity levels (or as many as your midi controller allows) . In Kontakt one way of doing it is the AET filter. However, there are other ways to achieve infinite levels of velocity both in tone and volume. I am expecting native instruments to bring some features to the front panel. Nothing beats Kontakt. Even for the average user. One could design a soundpaint interface (and functionality) in kontakt. My experience with soundpaint is that it's full of effects to dress up the sound. The free piano was poor compared Pianoteq. As for sound design Vital, Kontakt and some reverbs and you can get much better results.
Yeah I’m really curious to see what the velocity morphing would sound like on LAMP. Could be a game changer. Also layer morphing between drums could be really interesting.
Wonderful video Oliver. I think it would be great to see you develop libraries for it for sure. Even the sounds you created in the last part of the video were great. I would be excited if you create libs for sound paint, and also would be thrilled if you develop some library co produced with Troels. I find it unique when great developers, like you and Troels are, collaborate to create something special.
@@DMBCroOZza Thanks! I'm glad you like them, it's pretty cool how far you can take basic sound sources with SP and how quickly. Appreciate you taking the time to share your two cents :)
As someone with Omnisphere, there are a lot of things to like about this plug-in. I like the ease of use, I like the fact that you can map out which zone you want particular parts on and also love the fact that you can load in your own samples. Wish could control which part the arp triggers instead of all 4 parts
8:35 I'd also love if they did that with the arpeggiator too, so you could, for example, have one synth arp playing eighth notes and another playing quarter note triplets in one patch.
thanks a bunch for this very instructive video - I got soundpaint for some time and now I am informed about many details i didn´t notice yet. I still have some troubles with some flaws like major sound dropouts with the 1928 piano for example, but maybe those are due to my limited cpu. in general, soundpaint is a great concept and hopefully will force kontakt to make some developments...
Thanks for the video Oliver. I downloaded Soundpaint a few weeks ago, but haven't played with it yet. This was inspiring 👍. Would love to see some AudioOllie Soundpaint patches in the future.
As I get older and have updated my system to Mac Studio, Luna and just a few of the necessary third-party plug-ins I am excited that maybe soundpaint could be the only sampler I need. So yes, I would love to use your Nashville Strings in soundpaint and not have to crush my brain with different samplers. Thanks for the great explainer video, interesting that brilliant Troels has different talents than you and your ability to explain functions in a simple fashion.
Ollie (or do you prefer 'Oliver') - thanks for checking out and sharing what you've down with SoundPaint. I'm excited about it too - I'm one of those Kontakt users you mentioned that doesn't like to click the wrench - I despise Kontakt but there are soooo many amazing libraries for it I cannot ignore it. SoundPaint I think could be a game changer for people who like me aren't getting any younger and have modern systems with 4K displays, etc who can't see the crap bitmapped interfaces of stuff like Kontakt (and countless other NI legacy VI's), let alone the expressive capabilities of a more modern engine. I have a few SoundPaint libraries, and I would LOVE to buy your patches, or hear a library from you for it. I wonder if you could port the Memoir piano over to it without a Herculean effort? :)
Either is fine :) Yeah Kontakt has it's pros and cons but I can definitely relate to your perspective. Soundpaint likewise does it's own thing, but does it very well. As far as the memoir piano goes, keep an eye out this year ;)
Thank you! They are not. I'd be happy to share them with you, but it's not possible with Soundpaint just yet. Someone mentioned in a comment that they'll add program sharing around Q2 2022 so fingers crossed!
Recently got this added to the libraries. Interesting piece of work. Still navigating it and figuring things out. Thanks for this video. Helps explain a few things. I haven't had the extraneous cash to snag some of the products that it offers - but I AM looking and saving the pennies. Not too expensive overall indeed. And it is an interesting engine system. Someday I may add to this. It was all about the piano freebie that comes with it. But I DO like some of the other additions that can be made with it. Future perhaps.
Yeah I only purchased the guitar which I highly recommend, but it’s amazing how far you can take just a couple instruments. So easy to make new interesting sounds that your money can go a long way with a bit of elbow grease.
@@OliverCodd Yes THAT one is on the list plus one called Beautiful Sounds or something like that - atmospheric stuff but way nice too. Thanks for a very informative video. Again this kind of thing isn't my preference necessarily but could open some "different" creative avenues maybe someday....who knows!! 😜
Super good overview! Better even than their own I would say. Is there any way we could get a hold of those presets you made or see some of how they’re made? Didn’t realize the engine could transform a guitar and piano to such a degree! Thanks again.
Thank you! I would be happy to, but I'm not sure there's a way to share programs yet. I'll have to ask Troels about this as I wasn't able to find a file location for any of the user presets. Yeah it's amazing how far you can take a few basic sound sources and I'm barely scratching the surface. 8 LFOs coming soon so that'll be even more insane.
@@OliverCodd FYI, I reached out to the soundpaint folks about this and got this response: "Currently, we do not have options for user preset sharing. However, this is on the way and is planned for 2022. We will also be adding access to custom-made user presets at that time to allow program sharing." I followed up with a question on whether they expect that's early or late 2022; i'll let you know what i hear back there.

Your 'Guitar Pulse II' patch is on another level! Sounds amazing.

Hey Oliver, what camera did you use to shoot this video. All of your videos look so cinematic!
Blackmagic Pocket 4k with canon FD lenses :)
