My parents have an airstream a bit bigger than a teardrop like this but these tips will come in handy! Thank you, Brian!
Airstreams are my fav!
Just did this on my 31 foot 5th wheel. Kind of a big job what with the roof cleaning and then lap sealant prep cleaning. I opted to use brake clean to clean up my lap sealant after a general washing. I mostly sprayed it onto a shop towel and then rubbed the sealant. Doesn't leave a residue behind like mineral spirits. And an M12 caulk gun makes the job go so much faster. Same as you, just lay down the new right over the old cracked areas.
I’m glad it worked out well! Those M 18 guns are awesome!
Takes all my self restraint not to meddle with lap seal after its applied haha. loaded with little Great tips! Thankyou!
Set it and forget it!
Brian, as always you made this topic so simple to tackle. Thank you! I now have a whole list of winter maintenance projects :).
That's great to hear! I just helped do this project on a larger camper yesterday, a lot more lap sealant required than my teardrop!
Thank you for posting these videos - I found both videos on sealing teardrop trailers very informative and helpful! Will be picking up the products you recommended.
Thank you for watching them! Happy camping!
You are a great teardrop maintenance teacher. I appreciate the links too!

great info, it's time to do this on my 2014 camper
Glad it helped! I subbed your channel...great tunes! Can I borrow some for a video some time???
@@DIYOutdoorLife yes Brian, anytime
Great video, thank you. Only comment is about mineral spirits. Can I use paint store mineral spirits?
Yea, it's nice to get the small arts and crafts odorless version, just because you're not breathing it in while working. Any kind is fine.
Wish I had watched this before I literally just scraped off all the old lap sealant and replaced on my camper we just bought lol hopefully it will be okay!
That’s fine if you’re careful… definitely takes a lot longer
We have a 2015 Hideout 22' travel trailer with the standard vents,AC unit,TV antenna plus the roof membrane edges of the roof that I want to reseal all the roof areas that I have so my question is can you give me a ruff estimate of how many caulking tubes of sealant I would need to buy? I will also be resealing all the windows, doors and storage compartments plus any other penitrations in the sides, front and back of the trailer so an esimate for sealant for that would be great.
Thanks for these videos they were a big help to do the job ourselves.
Unfortunately, it's so tough to say. I I would get two or three tubes of proflex rv and 2 dicor. If you want to get more, you can always send it back.

There are several different formulas of lap sealant, get the right kind, depending on the roof you have.
Excellent video Brian. I'm actually considering some of tools/items on your product list so pls keep doing that. Id rather monkey around the in a real forest not that digital amazon rainforest.
I appreciate that! That's what I'm doing it for! 😀 feel free to ask questions
So you’re saying to only add more ? What if I want to remove the old and start over ?
Thats fine. Often times it's not needed and doesn't necessarily make for a better job. Absolutely fine to remove and start over.
I have watched a few of your videos today. Thanks for all the tips and the info on the bushwhackers. I have been considering one but have concerns from the Facebook group stories
Unfortunately, it’s hard to get a deal without trade offs. The price of campers has gone crazy. A little elbow grease and I’m thrilled w the BW.
@@DIYOutdoorLife looking at the issues folks have had through that lens certainly makes sense. It’s like many are wanting top notch perfection for the cheapest price possible.
Yea… if ikea had a FB group it would be funny
I heard someone mention that mineral spirits leaves an oily residue that needs cleaned off before applying lap sealant. Is that true? Would laquer thinner apply cleaner with less residue?
On painted aluminum it’s the best. It can leave in oily residue on EPDM and rubber roofs. You’re going to be fine either way, just read the instructions for the specific roof you’re applying to.
Don't scrape off any of the old? Ruh roh... That's a good tip for the future, thanks!
Most people do more than they have to on this job, Dicor says leave the old alone!

Wow awesome
Thanks 🤗
NICE
thanks!
Just my opinion, applying new sealant over old, damaged sealant can lead to incomplete sealing and potential leaks you should always remove the old sealant with a plastic or rubber scrapper to avoid any damage to the roof membrane then clean the surface and apply new lap sealant. Job is worth doing then lets do it right. Thank you and great video by the way 👍
Thank you for tuning in. The manufacturers recommendations are to do the minor repairs over the old, that is the right way. I'm with you though if there's a lot up there or if it's been done multiple times.

I have a 23 foot trailer. It is 2 years old. My dealer gave me a price quote of $1000 to touch up and repair . I purchased a couple of tubes and spent 30 minutes. Nice try.. Dealer
I’m in the wrong line of work… haha
Thanks for watching!
Great video
Thank you!
