    on the dropping zone I had a boy killed when a 2500 kg log broke free, enquiry stated was a hook defect, well it did not make my day...
    People are always to close especially on dropping zone. Logging is in all phases of flight always very dangerous, look for yourself, dont trust anybody, keep the head up !Thank you for the excellent video,

    I've heli logged, yarder logged, baloon logged, shovel logged, skidder logged, hell I've logged every dam way you can log! Chopper logging by far was my favorite type and the most efficient and cost effective believe it or not, if you have a good experienced crew, if not you can end up broke in fuel cost, too heavy a turn too much fuel burned and it's a wash, too little of weight it doesn't pay for fuel, so there is a fine balance to be met.

      Yeah the same here, I actually heli logged years ago with Columbia here on the east coast and now we are with Corman Group. We’re working up on the landing and hauling. We usually have to build roads over everything and use a shovel to top with and set out to grapple skidder then off to the landing.

    @Zachry86 Heli-logging allows access to high-quality,high-value old growth timber on otherwise unreachable slopes. As more accessible old-growth timber is exhausted, this less accessible wood becomes so valuable that a well-run heli-logging operation is much more than just break-even. You probably noticed the emphasis on co-ordination in the video - this safely enables the speed required to heli-log profitabley.

    if you watch the vid put up by R&R Conner then you'll see that a c model Huey can move 600 logs a day, way more than a ground crew can move, and it doesn't tear up the environment like when you you drag old dead cut down trees over new growth on the ground, you just lift them up and over. They'll work sometimes 90 seconds from the drop off point, making an ultra quick turnaround.

    I'm only about to get my commercial ticket, but I would love to heli log someday. I'm not sure if I would want to make a career out of it though. Sitting in the shaded area of the h/v curve all day just seems like asking for trouble....

    I really like this video in that its message is very clear, rules to work by must be adhered to!
    But as Zachry86 said, it would make more sense to maintain Forested areas and log by train.
    I really do not understand how logging using a sky lift can make any money? Surely it is just for 'convenience.?
    Helicopter logging introduces a substantially higher risk factor of, not just getting hurt, but killed! This surely cannot be a job for a Family man? Just too risky!
    Good luck for 2011

    a big old growth tree can equate to up to 65 000$ in timber. some can be worth even more.

      dog come on man a two thousand bucks a bushel you got a 32000 board foot tree hell that's only 64 Grand you ain't never going to see a tree near that big or gets near that much a thousand. A 40 foot log that is 40 in in diameter on the small end it's three thousand board feet shit so you have trees that have 20 40 40s in them that'd be 60,000 feet and I don't know where your Market is but a thousand bucks a thousand is top dollar and has been around here forever I guess our timber here in Oregon small if we run across a 15000 board foot tree we're like whoa. okay cut it down anyway the only good trees are stumps

    • @jonyemm
      @jonyemm 2 года назад

      Less equipment.(instead of 3-4+ you have 2) More specialized tracts. And those guys move logs quick.

    Wow..That would not be the best place for rotorcraft operation..I hope those helis are in tip top shape because if something decides to fail..Logs and trees become your enemy.
