  • Joint accounts are great for couples or good friends who share financial commitments from time to time. Manage collective household expenses like bills and rent or save up for something big - however you feel like using it, our joint account is designed to simplify shared spending.
As long as you’ve both got a Starling personal account, you can set it up together in-app, then once you’re good to go, you’ll both be able to add money to your joint account, spend anything that’s in it and use the app’s features to keep track.
Earn 3.25% AER / 3.19% Gross (variable) interest on balances up to £5,000.
Apply for a joint bank account: www.starlingba...
*AER stands for Annual Equivalent Rate and illustrates what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded once each year. Gross is the contractual rate of interest payable before the deduction of income tax at the rate specified by law.

Really pleased too see this advert which is LGBTQ friendly. Very proud of the bank for representing the community and making anyone feel welcome to use this bank no matter their race, gender or sexuality! Well done Starling. Its adverts like this that help shine a light on to the community and push equality.

Interest rates are negative in the eurozone at the moment, only the euro account has negative interest on balances over €50k, the regular sterling account has no negative interest

I really like this feature and my gf and I are currently in the process of switching over to Starling properly.
It's just.... these adverts.... it reminds me of the 'uncanny valley' - when something very closely resembles a human (like a CGI character), but not quite, illiciting a feeling of discomfort and unease because it looks 'creepy' - not quite right.
This couple are clearly not really 'off-script' as the ad would like us to believe. That's if they're even a couple (and not just a couple of actors). It's uncomfortable to watch - trying to be a real couple recounting real experiences in their own way, colloquially, but not quite right.
...and yes - I really don't have anything better to do!
That being said - I do really like Starling and it's Joint Account and how easy it is to setup. Just not this advert.

Hi Daniel, it's great to hear that you're in the process of switching to Starling and that you're enjoying using your account. We really appreciate this feedback about our ad, it has been passed on to the relevant team 👍

Starling Bank not ‘having a go’, just genuinely confused at ads like this that companies put out.
My thinking is that the ad is either trying to make it seem like the couple are a real couple, who have just been invited into the studio (obviously in this instance, we’re not expected to believe that they’re really in their own house, and that’s fine - artistic licence!) just to give their thoughts regarding the product...
      OR
The ad isn’t trying to get that across at all. But if it isn’t, then why have the couple talk as if they are?
I think it’s likely to be the former: ‘they’re a real couple just giving feedback in their own words’.
What confuses me is that either the actors are terrible at acting casual and acting like they’re not acting, or the script is way too restrictive and using robotic, formulaic language that is totally unrealistic and the actors are just doing the best with what they’ve got.
Could be both, but I think it’s the latter.
      Genuinely just feedback, not moaning.
Again - nothing better to do 👍

Starling Bank it just seems like they should’ve got someone from outside the production staff to watch it and give feedback on what they think the ad is trying to illustrate.
That’s what I mean about the ‘uncanny valley’. Nearly real, but not quite.
Of course, sometimes the point of the ad is to be uncomfortable to get people talking about how bad the ad is, because it’s still visibility which is always a good thing.
This ad (and others like it) remind me of the Carol Vordamen Benacol butter ads, where she started being told to make a specific hand gesture at the end of them whilst saying “proven to reduce cholesterol”. Then they started doing more ‘fly-on-the-wall’ ads (where nobody is looking at the camera, acting like it isn’t there whilst being interviewed by someone off-screen - like this one) where she’s having a cuppa and chatting with the woman in her lounge and when she mentions something like “did you know that Benecol is proven to reduce cholesterol?”, her hand moves from casually propping her head up, to that blummin’ fake gesture again, then back to casually propping her head up, as if it was natural, but not quite. These are the old ads ruclips.net/video/spgea2zPXac/видео.html

I'm a very happy starling current account customer but will be opening a joint account with a different bank because your current and joint acct cards look too similar, and I'm afraid of how easy it would be to use the wrong one! Please look into rectifying this!

If we need to open a personal account for a joint account, then can we use both cards? Why is it not possible to open a joint account directly? Why opening an account in your bank is so problematic? I want to open it for 1 year, but I get a message that my location is not suitable, although I have been living in the UK for 4 years.

I see to open a joint account with you, we both need a current account. Can these individual current accounts remain virtually inactive, and the joint account work as normal?
