Very helpful Ellie, thank you! I'm a bit late to the party but I've just ordered one today, in my case I'm using it for European travel on my motorbike. In the past I've just used my normal bank card for petrol, food, hotels, ferries etc and been staggered at how much the add on charges have built up to over the course of a tour, no add on fees with is card hopefully. The other thing I like is that I can add it to my Apple wallet on my iPhone and use the tap and pay function, also I like the fact that it gives you the choice on verification to use either face and passcode, or just passcode, ..in my case I chose just passcode as I really don't want to have to keep taking my crash helmet off every time I pay for petrol or something, that is a real pain! Looking forward to hopefully a hassle free experience with it, thanks for the info.
With the ATM withdrawal so if I use in the UK I can still withdraw with no fee as video mentions if I use with a local bank there is a charge? Or that also apply abroad?
The card machine or cashpoint will ask you, but always say local currency, the offer to pay in your home currency will give you and awful rate. At a cash machine, it might say with or without conversion, or accept or reject, always choose without/reject, the machine will give you money in the local currency, it's just that your own bank will convert the money and you'll get a better exchange rate. You have the choice to pay in home currency whatever bank you choose, but always reject that option. If it doesn't ask, it will charge you in the local currency
They use the mastercard exchange rate, which is a very good rate, the mid market rate at the moment is 1 € = £0.8946 whereas the mastercard rate is 1 € = £0.8944, so if you took out 100 € out at a cash machine, you'd only lose 1p to the exchange rate, and that's essentially a 0.02% mark up which you wouldn't even notice
Good to know so I can order One & use it in Dubai. I can swipe it & not get any extra charges. Plus no charge for taking it out at at ATM? Just want to double check & thanks. & this is the Post Office card.
You need to live in the UK to have this account, but you can use it in Dubai and the bank won't charge you any fees (though the cashpoint might charge you a fee and always choose no conversion on the screen, you'll still get local currency, but the bank will convert the money and give you a better rate)
If you have a euro account and it has enough euros in it to cover the transaction, then if the transaction is in euros, the money will come from your euro account, unless you go into the app and specifically tell them not to take the money from your euro account
Yeah, sure, there might be questions asked about why you're spending so much money, but there's nothing stopping you from doing it (as long as you can prove that the money came from a legitimate source)
It's a similar sort of account to Monzo, but better I think (for example, Monzo limits your free cash withdrawals abroad to £200 per month, starling has no such limit)
@@tonybramley7649 well who really needs more cash than that a day except to buy drugs? if you take out more than £200 a month on monzo, you'll be charged an extra 3% fee, and you won't be with Starling

I ordered my card on Sunday, it arrived on Thursday! Can’t wait to use it in Kos next week 😃
Seeing the notification in both currencies is very helpful
Would you recommend this over Revolut / Wise?
Just ordered a car today - Thanks for the video very informative
Great vid, thanks

Can I receive money from abroad with stealing card?
A starling card yes, it's a fully fledged bank account (I don't think stealing cards are legal!)
Can you top up the card at post office
Yes
When paying in a different currency, will you get to decide if you want to pay in GPB or in the local currency of the country you're in?
Did you find an answer to this @ellie jane
@@pradeepkumar-zo8rt unfortunately I didn’t

Do I need to convert my money on the app to the local currency before I use it abroad?
No
Can it be used as a debit card though? Ie not just tapping contactless but paying online in America
Yes, it's a fully functioning debit card and does everything any other debit card would do
Did u get credit or debit
How competitive are their exchange rates?
Very they use the Mastercard exchange rate which is about as good as you can get
what about exchange rate?

I’m going to korea in September. I have this card. Can my dad send me money to this card whilst I’m in Korea.
Yes, it's a full UK bank account and you can use it to send and receive money worldwide
I am obligated to say one Thank you as this is what I was looking for.
Does anyone know if I can use this card while I am in Europe to book air bnbs/ hostels through apps?
i think you can only use it , where you can tap or withdraw , so not online bookings
Hi, I was wondering if you ever figured out if you can use this card to book online in Europe? I'm going to be doing the same as you
@@elliejane4372 Yes you can
@@davecousins3775 you can use it online too, it does everything a normal bank and debit card would do
Hi, how much mony you can withdraw abroad? Thanks
£300 a day
Starling is the best, and also the app is amazing too
Do I need to open an account? I am interested in this card.
Yes, super easy you do it online or the app cant remember which now i got it last year!
Just ordered the card, but is there a limit of high much you can spend abroad???
The limits are the same as in the UK. It's a great account for travelling.
nope, the only limit is your balance (or overdraft if you have one)
is possible to send money internationally into someone's bank account please?
Yes, it is a full UK bank account
Friend has one and after watching your video decided to get one to use abroad, thanks
So they don't charge foreign transaction fees?
Great video if you use the card does it come out of the starling euro current account please
That’s what I need to know right now too, guess I’ll have to find somewhere else
If you have a euro account and it has enough euros in it to cover the transaction, then if the transaction is in euros, the money will come from your euro account, unless you go into the app and specifically tell them not to take the money from your euro account
So useful, thanks Ellie!
What is the limit for transaction ? If u had 20k GBP in the account can u do a transaction at POS points?
No limits it’s a Bank just use your pin
if you have £20k in your account, you can spend £20k, no one's stopping you
@@grassytramtracks normally there is a limit of how much u can swipe in one transaction or one day.
very important info... thanks a lot...
Just opened a Starling account, hoping to use it after the summer when the pandemic hopefully subsides a bit...thanks for the video.
Now we could do with automatic Starling travel insurance !
Thanks Ellie I have ordered the card as I am traveling next month October.
im glad that i came across your video
Can I pay for a £20,000 transaction with this card abroad ?
What are you buying out there? Lmao
