Hailing from Santa Barbara, California, Martinez barged onto the surf scene as a child prodigy. At age 13, the naturally gifted rider began claiming titles and storming podiums. Named the WCT Rookie of the Year in 2006, he made history as the first Mexican American rider to qualify for the pro tour. Martinez won key competitions including the O’Neill Coldwater Classic (2005), as well as Billabong Pro series stops in Tahiti (2006, 2009), and Mundaka (2006, 2007). But in 2011, his career took an abrupt turn over a battle with a major surf league. Staying true to his beliefs, Martinez retired from competition and pursued his career the way he sees fit - and that makes him an icon of the sport!

I'm a little late to the party but this was a great podcast. A huge fan of Bob since he was 16. Unbelievable talent. Glad he's doing his thing. It's rare to see him and like you guys said he has a following. Many surfers get amped when we hear or see something about him. He's the real deal. Spitting facts.

The new format it works. You have to be consistent and remain in the top 20, it gives more chances to new comers. Kelly for example is out now, even if it wins a tour event now. Bobby is one of the best surfers of all time and his style is second to none.

Wsl waves are usually really bad. Free-surfing is 1000x better. Except Pipe, Chopes & Cloudbreak.
