    Took his advice and bought a carburetor and a gas line shut off valve, and it solved my problem. The gas was leaking and diluted my motor oil. It already blowed up the original engine, Glad this fix worked before it done another engine. Thanks for the imformation.

    If you look at the old carburetor more than likely it will be the o-ring between the plastic assembly and the aluminum housing of the carburator, I've have had to replace that o-ring many of times to stop those carburetors from flooding.

    Thanks for the informative video, I got a buddy of mine that has a Simplicity tractor with that same engine on it, it's leaking fuel so bad it's getting hydro locked and when it does run it runs way too rich. He thinks it's the fuel pump leaking fuel past the diaphragm but I'm sure it's the carburetor now, will tell him to get a cheap replacement carb for it, thanks!

    Thanks SO much for this video! I am fairly novice when it comes to this sort of thing and my last time trying to use the mower gas came pouring out of it in the front so I thought it was dead. I left it alone until I saw this video. I went out today it fired right up but smoked like you said but I didnt add any gas it had all ran out. I just ordered a new carb off of amazon. I pulled the old one off today and changed the oil. Cant wait to put the new carb on Friday and see what happens. Thanks again! GREAT video!

    Thanks man. First i thought starter, then solinoid then it cranked a slewed gas everywhere. It sat for almost 2 seasons and it fired right up at first till it sucked in some that 2 year old ethonol varnish. So new carb it is. Easy fix.

    In the same situation , I would also install a fuel shut off in between the gas tank and carb . This will help the carb to last longer when used .

    I've always had a preference for B and S engines since I was a kid. I learned to rebuild them in HS, and have most of the specialty tools to work on them. Now, there seems to be this fascination with making former metal parts out of plastic. My first exposure to this was on a snapper lawnmower I was troubleshooting a no=start problem 25 years ago. After ruling every other possible issue, I was left with the intake tube. When I went to remove it, Guess what? Well, I was not amused about discovering the part's plastic construction had failed, and daylight was showing through 2 cracks which were large enough to render the machine DOA. I quickly drove to AAA power equipment, who had a brisk business salvaging equipment and parting out engines which were blown or otherwise not repairable. Got my metal intake for $3 back then! Fast forward to 2020.... My new Snapper with the 6.75 HP Briggs has a plastic carb, and these carbs tend to gum up and act up within a couple years, if not sooner. The throttle shaft had broken and released the metal plate and overrevved the engine severely. I'm lucky the plate wasn't sucked into the upper cylinder. I got one of those reverse-engineered Amazon Chinese knock-offs, with outstanding results and a little more than half price. Hopefully this new one won't break in such a critical area. I compare my actions to getting a Chinese iPhone replacement battery. Apple wants to make it as hard and expensive as possible to get a genuine Apple battery, and will not sell them to you unless Apple installs them. I do not feel a bit guilty for paying $21 for a battery for my phone with double the warranty of an Apple battery, at one third to one forth of the cost. These replacement batteries have always lasted for years, since I keep my phones for CCTV use after replacing them. Keep up the good work, Jeremy, and greetings from Louisiana!

    Nice short video. I replaced new cab on my mtd last week before seeing this video and put in manuel fuel switched as well and changed oil two times but still flooded with gas. Opened rocker arm looked clean, just for inspection. Notice breather hose damage and open but no sign of wet oil, replaced. Removed spark plug , spark center is dry but wet oil around the threads,.is this normal? Any more hint as why gas in oil? Where to look next?? Advanced thank you for ALL the great video that posted.

I see several specs and can’t find the manual so at this time think I’ll put the exh @ .04 and intake. @.07. Plus I see guys take them to TDC then back it down in the cylinder 1/4 inch then adjust the intake only that way or? Thank you for your help in advance.

    Im too lazy.. I put a $3 fuel shutoff on the fuel line and just shut it off between uses. I do that on my motorcycles and atv too. And try to consider that as good practice for winterizing or draining fuel too. If I have to change headgasket again on it maybe I'll change it. Great vid!

    • @MeesterVegas
      @MeesterVegas 5 лет назад

      Yeah, someone I bought a used mower from did that, and failed to tell me the reason. At first I thought "That's a good idea. Keeps gas out of the carb for winter storage, etc." I found out real quick what the reason was when I forgot to turn off the fuel valve after a mowing. It could have blown a hole in the engine.

    My Ariens 42 has been terrible to get turned over plus it has a 18.5 Briggs Intek with Niki carb and found gas in the valve cover I removed because I was going to check to see if the valve clearances were off hoping it’s not a broken compression release. I have had to buy a new starter since original one started smoking when I was trying to get it to turn over with my second highest amp new battery I bought. Think it has about 395 cca so took the oil fill cap and of course could smell gas bad. Good think I use a great oil that has a lot of Zinc in it which is Amsoil Z- Rod oil they use in hot rods and vintage cars but I use it in all my cars my pro street car and newer cars. As long as your engine is not an oil burner in newer smog cars with cats it will not clog the cat or smog systems as the EPA wants us to believe. So ordered a new carb from Amazon which has great reviews and think it’s called a RIPP brand that cam with a fuel shut off which my mower never came with. I sure hope this whole time it’s been hydrolocking and not also the compression release but I think irs both. First few times after I bought used and was only about year old and hardly used it backfired really hard when I’d shut it off or it it was stalling from the dull blades and tall grass. So thought maybe a backfire might have broken the compression release. Can’t wait until I can go out and take the battery tender cables off and fire it right up so I can keep my lawn mowed and looking nice. I can’t leave it in park with the brake on and get off the seat anymore since the automatic seat shut off is malfunctioning and won’t let it keep running so another issue to try and find what’s wrong with that. I saw a black ground wire that I think was bolted to the heat shield came off so hoping it’s that. What a pain.

I went to Sears and they want 140 bucks for a new NIKI carb..yikes !I will see if I can find one on Amazon or EBAY as i'm not sure if any damage was done to the engine as it was Hydro Locked and don't want to waste that much money on a 13 yr. old Lawn Tractor.

    I just bought an older Craftsman LT2000 with this exact motor and carb. It ran perfectly the day I got it home. The next day I put fuel in it. I went inside for a few minutes. Later when I came out, I smelled gas really strong. I found gas coming from the muffler. I also found the oil dipstick smelled strongly of gas. You say it's better to just buy another, cheaper one? Also, and this is the main reason I'm writing this...you say you left the old fuel filter in place and were gonna change the oil a few times, before putting on a new oil filter(all this after the new carb is in place, I got that). So, you leave the old oil filter on, then change the oil a few times, running the engine about ten minutes between changes, then finally install the brand new oil filter?

    I would never start the engine again without changing the oil and filter first. That filter could be a part of your problem also, the Fram filter is so cheap and made of cardboard inside, when they get reall wet with oil, they collapse inside and is worthless then. I refuse to use those on anything. I always use Amsoil filters and oil in all my cars and machines and the customers, it may cost a little more, but the customers are glad that i take care of their equipment the way i do.

    There's nothing wrong with a chinese made carburetor. They have the same feelings we do.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 4 года назад +1

      The only feeling's their hurting are the 600 Briggs employees being laid off and the company nearly in bankruptcy now due to the flood of these cheap chinese copied parts and clone engine's that are under no regulation.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 4 года назад

      @Cam They were in trouble before the "Pandemic". That should be obvious, if only 3 months of slowed sales puts a company that large on the brink of bankruptcy, than clearly theirs a lot more factors at play aside from the Pandemic. The Pandemic is one small factor.
      Bottom line, they are currently on the brink of bankruptcy.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 4 года назад

      @CamI'm not sure if your trying to argue with me and if so why. I said Briggs was on the verge of bankruptcy, true story. I didn't sit their and explain why or how it happened, so I wasn't going to say anything about covid, you wanna go their for some reason and seem to argue, great. 👍
      No one said their immune, I said they weren't in very good shape going into this crisis, if they were they wouldn't be on the brink of bankruptcy after only 3 months, its pathetic. I'm not hearing anything, over from Kohler or any other engine manufacturers right now. I'm not gonna get into politics with you. Don't blame this administration for that shit, that crap has been going on a long time now, it started with Nixon opening the flood gates to the penguin people in the first place. This administration has been trying to reverse the effects of that crap and I did not conveniently leave leave Covid out of the equation, they were already in trouble before this bullshit started, their are many more factors at play besides covid. The largest manufacturer of small air cooled engines which has been around over a century now, should not be nearing bankruptcy from a little 3 month breeze of slowed sales. People are still buying mowers, the demand for them hasn't even slowed down all that much, so its got nothing to do with that. They missed a huge payment on June and may miss it again tomorrow, the amount they owe is much higher than the amount they lost during the covid outbreak, so it doesn't add up. They were already in trouble before hand, if they were in better shape to start with they would have weathered this storm a lot better. They better not go under, I really don't feel like seeing a world with only Kohler, Honda and a bunch of Chinese shit, it would be pretty sad. But lets be realistic, if they do get into bad enough shape, I predict a bigger company will buy them out and keep them going, but will see. 🤞.
      Their near bankruptcy, no I didn't mention any of the reasons why, but since you want to bring up why and covid, lets be real. Its a lot more than just covid, they were already in trouble before covid hit.
      Yes, building Union and buying Union for the last 35 years would have stopped a lot of American companies from going under and their would still be a lot more good paying factory jobs. But it didn't go that way. Instead, we barely build anything anymore and thats the root cause of why Briggs is in financial trouble, not Covid.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh 4 года назад

      @Cam Your repeating what I just said and Briggs can make any excuse they want, they were already in trouble to begin with. Maybe they should have just stuck to engines which is what they know instead of buying up all those companies in 2004 like Murray, Simplicity, Snapper, Ferris, etc and trying to make their own line of power products, which are now dragging them down and are preparing to sell off all those lines. History repeats itself they already tried this in the early 20th century and in 1980 with that 6 wheel car they made, that flopped. Poor decisions were made. Their going to have to restructucture to survive, back to basics, engines. Maybe they should have stayed in the US instead of moving the majority of their production to China in 2013. A lot of those new lines of engines their making are garbage. www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/news/2020/07/15/chapter-11-filing-expected-from-briggs-stratton.html
