He just understood it was all about the personal perception of reality. Those who have the capacity understand that just with relationships and love stories. The dream (your hopes) within a dream (your own perception of reality not always shared by others). But yes, as you said, extremely woke for his time. The lines of this poem came back to me suddenly while falling asleep last night. I couldn't even remember where they'd come from even though I love Poe's works. They struck such a cord in me, in my mind that's been struggling and barely coping with what this year has brought.
