  • This is a short video on the repair of the power fuse for the CAT plug on the Yaesu 857 and 857D. The Yaesu 897/897D is similar, but there's a lot more room in the case, making the fuse a bit easier to find space for.
If you have an 897/897D you have more options, since the space in the chassis is greater. Below I've attached a post from qsl.com shown the fuse in greater detail than my camera was able.

It might be helpful to some of you to know that this little surface mount fuse usually gives up when the radio is used with a Yaesu ATAS antenna - ALL the power for the antenna is routed through it, and if the antenna motor hangs up or something overloads, the SM fuse opens, and kills the radio cat plug.
If you're going to use an ATAS antenna, it might pay to peel off this fuse before you even start and complete this modification - it's really pretty easy.

great vid but it would be nice to see a close up of what you talking about....when i switch to atas and press tune , i get init on the screen....its only when i put it to tuner and press the tuner button that it does nothing.....can you make the same thing for me and ill pay for it?
for now ive got power to the tuner and the cat cable into the tune, with a regular power to the tuner tit works fine
