Overrated in my opinion he’s a talented skilled artist but never was close to being the hottest rapper he’s more of a business man than a rapper. His music was always linear he was never up or down he had always been consistent but as far as being the goat he’s not even close. People bring up his accolades as if this is the nba like what does his money have to do with how good his music is compared to other artist/rappers????

Nas is one of the greatest of all time to do no one should ever doubt that, but if we go album for album Jay would completely beat Nas. Especially if we’re talking the success & impact of each album.

@@Mic-100 Well sells is apart of it for sure but we also gotta look at the critical acclaim of the albums too. Nas has plenty of great albums but for whatever reason the only one people ever wanna talk about 90% of the time is “Illmatic”. His albums after “Illmatic” just don’t have the same stature world wide as a “Blueprint” or “Black Album” or even a “4:44” & so on. Lyrically I can’t choose who’s better cuz they’re both monsters on the mic, but I do think the fact that Jay does his songs off the top is krazy. I’m not saying Jay is the best rapper of all time ( although he very might be, & I could make an argument for that) but he’s definitely the greatest rapper of all time. Even other top rappers like Drake , Wayne, Pusha T, Vince Staples, Kanye & so on mention it in their music from time to time. Jay’s impact has reached from the streets to pro sports all the way to the White House & further at this point & he did it mostly through his music. Now a days I think I even here more artists quote Jay lines in there songs than Nas or any other artists, & I noticed that when a lot of these rappers get into real trouble Jay is usually the one they try to get ahold of to help. Also he has the most platinum solo albums of all time as of now. All I’m saying is anyway you look at it no other rappers catalog matches Jay’s right now & it’s really not even close.

Critically acclaimed albums? Blueprint is his only 1. Yes I give him 3 classics that are actually respected (BP, Black, and RD which became a classic years later) Nas has 3 as well from albums in 94 and 2001. But let's talk modern day classics? He has 3 more. The KD era is a real thing because from 2020 to 2021, nobody has the bodies of work to compare. Just facts!
Now when u talk Greatest MC, adding the celebrity, family ties, and business moves shouldn't make the claim... its added value to the celebrity status.

The GOAT in terms of what? Not cultural influence, sales, or even relevancy. People blend his music career and business savvy to support this argument but it doesn’t hold up well to scrutiny. If anyone is the GOAT now it’s Kanye or Drake going off the categories I listed earlier. Wayne is in the discussion for cultural influence and Eminem beats Jay all day in career sales. Jay Z is a great rapper with great business acumen, that’s all. To be honest his wife does more for him beings relevant now in popular culture than anything else.

What makes Jay-Z different from other rappers?
Essentially, Jay-Z is a really good rapper with good rapper with good, radio-ready songs. By this point, he’s had enough albums and enough great tracks you can listen to hours of his music and not hear anything that wasn’t a huge hit. This attests to both his own skill level.
