If these young girls don't weave, the craft WILL die out. How do they think it will continue? How? This is your heritage. How can you just let it die?

The world has taken their attention.
A desire for more money and an easier life.
We all might choose this if we had to live with this as our only option.
My heart grieves that this is happening, but it's a pattern that has happened for the whole of history (do you still peddle the trade of your long distant grandparents?).
There will be non natives who will go and learn these things, some will make detailed films and there will be books written. At some point, in a couple of generations, there will be others who take up the mantle and continue in this work.
I'm sure most of our ancestors were pained that their children didnt follow in their footsteps and all sorts of crafts and homesteading practices have been lost.
The best way to reconcile it? Learn it, carry it on ourselves.
I taught myself to spin wool about 30 years ago, I use natural plant dyes, I knit and felt etc I'm sure my great.g.g.grandparents would be happy about this. It's not easy to take fleece off my small flock, process, dye and spin it...but its been an amazing journey now I'm quite good!
All 3 of my kids (27,21 and 9) can either, sew, knit or spin and dye.
If they choose not to pass it on to their kids then I have hope that one of our generation at some point will one day again learn from scratch like I did 🙂 all is not lost 🙂
Maybe this will inspire someone to go and make detailed notes about how they do everything!?

How about - they do not wish to live in poverty? How about - they would like something more fulfilling in their lives? How dare you judge them?

getting an education will get them further in life, even if it means they don't learn a craft. you gotta lose some to win some.

They unfortunately do not have the privilege of learning their ancestral traditions and culture, thanks to capitalism and colonization
