    My grandma would give me pepsi in a sippy cup at the age of like 2 years old! As you can imagine I was literally addicted to soda for about 16+ years of my life. I gave up soda, which was extremely difficult because I would have withdrawals, but I feel soooooo much better afterwards! I will never drink soda again

    As someone who has Celiac Disease and obviously has to avoid gluten, encouraging people to avoid all gluten is not the best idea. I have to because my life basically depends on it, but that's not the case for every single person. Obviously stuff like cookies and cakes aren't good for you, but there are whole grain and whole wheat options for people who can eat gluten that are just fine for you. Oh, and rice doesn't have gluten in it. It's it's own grain separate from what individuals who actually can't eat gluten can eat.

      @pumpkin7774 8 лет назад +21

      Actually, all wheat that is not gluten free is bad for you. It is true for people thousands of years ago when they ate flat bread, it was safe to eat. Now all wheat is treated with GMOS, antibiotics, hormones, etc all that bad unnatural stuff and it is not safe or natural to consume anymore. I guess you could find wheat that has not been treated with GMOs but that would be really hard to find and it still has gluten in it which is really just not healthy at all for anyone.

      right, people who aren't gluten intolerant can still eat gluten but it's better if they don't as gluten has negative effects on your health. Infertility is one of them, and you shouldn't be intolerant for it to affect you. But if you want to keep eating it then don't make a big deal out of it. And just keep eating it.

    Lot's of unnecessary restrictions.
    1) *Oil* is great for you! Its a *rich natural source of monounsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants with vitamins E and K that can protect the body from oxygen-free radicals and promote healthy cognitive function*, according to the USDA. Oil also *doesn't at all become toxic or dangerous to the body unless intentionally overcooked (fried).* Olive oil is a major key ingredient to the Mediterranean diet (named one of the healthiest diets on the planets), and *lowers your chances of high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. For women, it reduces your chances of developing breast cancer.*
    2) Nothing is wrong with *flour*, so long as its *whole wheat*. Wheat products are a almost staple vegan product, and *a awesome source of fiber, and protein. Medical science tells us that it even lowers chances of early death, and lowers your chances of heart disease*:
    2.5) *All added sugars are bad for you,* rather its cane or refined. Fruit is awesome because of the antioxidants and fibers, but even too much of fruit produces can make you gain weight and give you cavities.Just because its natural doesn't make it anymore magical
    3) *Caffeine* is a stimulant, whether its good or bad for you, its debatable. While in excessive amounts it does boast blood pressure, cause insomnia and other severe medical problems, in subtle amounts it *cuts mouth and throat cancer risk by 50%, reduce the risk of stroke as much as 22%, reduce the risk of several types of cancer as well as the risk of type 2 diabetes.*
    3.5) *Nothing wrong with*alcohol if you drink the right one.* *Red wine* for instance (also another contributor to the Mediterranean diet) *lowers stroke risk, lowers heart disease risk, serves as a memory protector against Alzheimer’s, and because of its antioxidant content it also lowers the risk of developing cancer*
    4) Point with *salt*.
    5) *There is absolutely no medical reason why someone who isn't gluten intolerant shouldn't eat gluten.* In fact, the unnecessary restriction on gluten is actually speculated to be a little unhealthy, because gluten-free products are often more expensive and hard to find.
    Eat all the health oily, alcoholic gluten-laden whole foods and coffee you want, vegan friends! Don't do unnecessary restrictions, do your research instead!

      eat the olive oil raw, never cook with it. It should be the last ingredient when you are just about ready to pull that pan off the heat or added after the food is removed from the heat source. Olive oil does NOT have a high heat tolerance, to be safe keep it under 365F degrees to avoid the breakdown of this oil and changing its natural chemistry. Instead, use grapeseed oil which has a tolerance heat of up to 500F degrees. Coconut oil works as well.

      WutsoevrThngsRLuvly, I appreciate your point of view. From my perspective, before we come to this life, we make a choice of what we want to learn and experience. We choose the country, the place, the family, the spouses. None of us is a victim, we are very powerful beings. Guilting others is not going to improve the health or lifestyle of those that need it. The only way to learn is from the inside out, not from the outside-in and I'm talking from a personal perspective and understanding. There are many, many examples of people that came out of great poverty but it came with a complete mindset change and personal effort. Potatoes, rice, onions, garlic, kale, sweet potato, cabbage, beans, chickpeas, lentils, spices, and more are basic and readily available foods that one can make affordable and yummy meals. All the power to change our life is within us, even if one has to repeat the same life experiences over and over.

      @@ginafinch3307 I appreciate this point too and also believe we made our choices before we got here.
      The more basic foods you mentioned are the healing foods. Potatoes and Bananas are very very cheap and oh so good for us.
      My diet is much closer to this everyday plus lots of fruit. I don't want to eat out much anymore. Fast food is lower quality and makes me feel worse the next day. Its not a privilege to eat it but a temptation and burden.
      I was inspired by the other comment, too, and it made me more mindful to be aware of my blessings.

    Gluten is only bad for a small percentage of people. Otherwise bread, pasta, rice is fine. Also extra virgin olive oil has an important anti-oxidant that promotes healthy heart. Its perfectly fine. It is calorie dense but simply don't use too much. Also Rapeseed oil is very good too. It has more omega 3 fatty acids and less saturated fat than Olive oil. Caffeine and Alcohol, Salt is fine in moderation.

      I'm really inspired with this video. I had IBS, fibromyalgia, MS and cancer. I started with very long water fast. I'm on plant based diet from 2004. I try to eat mostly raw. I agree with Kristina....everything what she listed in this video I had to exclude from my diet to get better. I'm well now and never will go back to eating those foods. Thank you Kristina for sharing your experience. We are all different but we need to be open-minded and try to understand another human being. Our journeys are going to be different because everyone of us is unique . Our unique lives create very complex unique conditions where food is not primarily factor that defines health. Food is secondary. Primary foods are many very important aspects of our life. To make our lives whole and balanced we need to live close to nature and learn and listen to Mother Nature . I can start a very long list of important things that make us different ...first is our ancestors, where we are coming from, how healthy where our parents, if we had any traumatic experiences, where do we live, what is our emotional state, financial, job, education, relationships....and many ,many other .For me the most important is true love and connection to God ,love and respect to all his creations ,love and respect to our own bodies, minds and souls. By changing ourselves we are changing the world...one life at the time.

      Well, orthorexia is a mental disease and not an eating habit, so you can't know

    • @24wallachian
      @24wallachian 8 лет назад +17

      There is a big difference btw. orthorexia and conscious eating. Orthorexia is f.e. when you won't blend your food because you believe the steal blades in the blender touching the food would somehow damage it. Sth. like that is in deed far fetched. Avoiding certain groups of food because you know that your body does not need them and that they even tend to have negative impact on your health is not orthorexia. Her excluding so many food groups may seem restrictive, but fortunately this planet offers thousands upon thousands of plants for us to eat, so she's still left with an abundance of food options. The reason why people think of this as too restrictive is, in my view, that the animal industry shapes the way supermarkets look like these days in terms of the variety of food they offer, and since this is what we see from day one, we automatically think that this is the (only) way to shop and eat. That way, when sb. rejects 85% of the products a supermarket offers, we think that eating merely those remaining 15% of products is too restrictive, when in fact those 15% of products a) do not reflect the true variety of food we can eat and b) out of all the products in that supermarket, the 15% of products are the true locus of all the vitamins and nutrients we need and those remaining 85% of products are more or less nutritionally empty and often harmful garbage anyway. In other words, we enter a supermarket and think that this is the variety of food there is and that we are supposed to choose from, when in fact it's merely the variety of foods that (mostly) the animal industry TELLS US that there is. Also, the contemporary food marked brainwashes us into thinking that we have to eat a huuuge variety of products, when in fact all our body needs is a staple of a few types of food, as long as that food gives us the nutrition we need. In the old days, in countries such as China people were basically eating just rice, veggies and very little meat. They did not have supermarkets with thousands of products in them and yet they were trim, strong and healthy. Isn't it funny how we got used to this massive, over the top variety of supermarket foods to such a degree that we acutally see a strict reduction of that variety as a sign of sickness?

      some people are allergic to nuts, pineapples, mangoes strawberries etc. that doesn't mean that they aren't healthy. There's a reason we have such a wide variety of foods in this world and to say consuming certain types is unhealthy is extremely ignorant... There are cultures that thrive on a hunt/kill to feed their families. It's cool if you're vegan especially if it feels best for YOUR body! Go for it. But don't cast shame on those who struggle for food or income. One of the cheapest (and yes it can be healthy) is a loaf of fresh bread or oatmeal. How do you think people around the world survive? I'm not judging by any means I'm just approaching this from a standpoint of those who bank on meat and gluten to keep their families alive.

Had no idea you were a Diabetic I am so glad and encouraged that you are diabetes free! I am overweight, hypertensive and diabetic, but, I refuse to give in, give up or die! I am joining you soon. Gluten is fine for 96-97% of the population. Cutting all gluten out can cause more problems than solve if you ain't coeliac or intollerant.

    • @simonb4689
      @simonb4689 8 лет назад

      +zukodude487987 it can be done well, but it's harder than veganism by a long shot to do it right and get proper nutrition. The key message is that it's fine for most of humanity and not something to demonize. A great sourdough bread from beautiful ancestral wheat is an amazing thing and packed with nutrition. You want to cut that completely out ONLY if you are in that 3-4% of the population (6% tops).
      get your facts on nutritionfacts.org, there's a series on gluten.

      +zukodude487987 are you coeliac or self diagnosed ? because feeling better after cutting alot of stuff with gluten does not mean gluten was the problem.
      if you are coeliac, or you have done a proper elimination of food items until you got to gluten, then by all means stay away from gluten. it is extremely toxic to someone with the disease and you can live very healthy lives without gluten for sure. just stay away from all the processed gluten-free offerings ! whole food plant based is FTW.

    I want to add the comment and support what you share: I left social drinking of alcohol three months ago and I feel in all aspects of my life much much better. I always can find alternative when going out with friends and lucky me I have people around who don’t judge my decision or give negative comments. What you give you receive. This small step led to more changes in my life and it only confirms the biggest wisdom- you create. Everything around yourself, your environment and your life.

    Avoiding gluten just because and not having a gluten sensitivity or have celiac disease is useless. Often gluten free products have less fiber and more fat and sugar. If you avoid it because many products that use wheat are processed is a different topic that doesn't have nothing to do with gluten persé.

    wow your life must be so boring by avoiding all this stuff. Live your life gurl, have fun. You only live once. I am not saying to eat a lot and be an obese but as long as you eat the right amount of food and exercise then you are gonna be okay. Don't be so harsh on yourself. This is why people suffer from bulimia, anorexia, stress, depression. Cause they all try all this crazy stuff. I understand vegans that they want to protect every animal and animal product but at least those vegan meals that you eat try and make them tasty and delicious. Anyway it's your choice. This was just an opinion.

      +Graciano Gjepali If you read the book Anti Cancer you'll find out that food is the major contributing factor to whether or not a person gets cancer. By consuming 26 different fruits and vegetables a week you lower your cancer risk by 78%. I doubt Kristina is going to miss life without cancer in her later years. What she eats today affects her diseases in the future. I've lived without fast food for 13 years and eat the best food imagineable. Organic high quality food is way better than packaged chemical junk that causes cancer down the line. Just my opinion though.

    You said not to use olive oil (pressed from olives) but to drink sugar cane juice (pressed from sugar cane). Is your only issue that olive oil has more fat, pr the process of pressing the oil. Because essentially, the process for the two are the same.

    Hey Kristina! Great video! After my daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes last September I'm a praying and thinking it through Mama. So I've got the Trim Healthy Mama cookbook, good start right? I've still been praying and thinking and hoping to find better foods for her and us to eat. a fully raw diet keeps coming up!! I'm in the newbie category here. My daughter is 2.5 and I don't want to see her struggle in her life. We switched out sugar for Stevia permenately. Switched out pasta for speghetti squash and zucchini noodles. I make my own sauce. We switch out fries for salads!! the change is small and by God's grace we'll continue. it's my husband I really want to see convinced! It's hard to say goodbye to coffee so I'll work on that next. I do love a good cup of herbal tea! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!! Blessings!!

      Kat Love plus having your period is a health indicator in women. If you're not having your period something isn't ok.
      Not having your period (unless pregnant obviously or menopausal) is a huge red flag.

    Salt actually makes you lose water due to diffusion. When you eat a lot of salt the water is forced to move from a high concentration in the body to the low concentration of water and out the body. That is in fact why when people consume a lot of salt you often feel very thirsty.

    • @realhealthyfood
      @realhealthyfood 8 лет назад

      I would've thought the opposite. Water moves by osmosis from a more dilute solution to a more concentrated solution. If you eat more salt you are creating a more concentrated solution in your body hence the water won't move out as it can't travel against the concentration gradient. I'm assuming that's the reason from my knowledge of biology, anyone with scientific degrees please feel free to correct me!
