Wow... Never heard this before but as soon as the verse started I knew it was James Dewar. One of the greatest voices ever! So glad to have stumbled upon this, thank you!
I’m so glad all of this unreleased music is being heard. His daughter was conversing with his fans through a RUclips channel there for awhile. I ADORE James. 🙏🏼🎼
Well said Emil.Ive always loved Robin Trowers music and James Dewar was just the greatest gift to robins songs and to us all. I have recently gone back to vinyl and got all the albums that James was on with Robin but i didn't know about this one. Its beautiful.
This Album! I realized I had struck gold when I found this Album at "Cellophane Square" in Seattle back in 1977. I played this song for almost everyone I knew! And I loved sing along with it when I was alone. Because of James Dewar, I ( a young Black American male and a "Rocker")had songs from 3 Robin Trower albums I could sing in the bands I was in during the 70's to take a break from having to force my voice into the (as I called it back then) "skinny white boy" register! I'm talking Foreigner, Boston, Rush, Triumph, Supertramp and the like. THANK YOU to the Great James Dewar!!
The BEST track on the Flash Fearless LP! Dewar's awesome lead vocals plus Entwistle's stellar basswork (that nearly becomes the lead guitar), those add up an extremely moving and effective song, one that transcends the campy nature of the album that spawned it.
Tone and texture along with a solo that is beyond the universal comprehension then throw in James vocals and your on Zorg A superhero In Your own mind, Fearless ..and that’s all that matters in the end
Agree 1000% with all here, Dewar had a fabulous and sadly underappreciated voice. Entwistle goes balls to the wall here and the majestic yet understated drumming is by the one and only Bill Bruford! totally fantastic and the whole Flash Fearless LP is very fun.
@@highkicks49 right? my lower jaw hit the floor of the Free Being used record store on St mark's Place in Manhattan's East Village when I picked up that LP thinking "what the hell is THIS?' and saw my favorite drummer's name on the back! I truly think this period of Bruford's work, "the lost session years," is some of his most interesting: the tension between such a vividly distinctive stylist and the anonymity session work typically demands as well as the simplicity of pop songs. But the way he adds just enough extra space between the bass drum and snare beats to make it so much more...interesting. If you're a Bruford fan you can probably tell pretty quickly that it is indeed him, especially when he opens the hi-hat! He is on two other tracks on that LP by the way which you should be able to find on RUclips: "I'm Flash" with Alice Cooper (!) and "Sacrifice" with Elkie Brooks. On "I'm Flash" you'll hear Bill doing the same sort of pounding tomtom flamadiddles (or whatever the rudiments are) he did on "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" on the Genesis 1976 tour (in most of the many versions I've heard from different cities - the part where Phil sings "and the laaaaaamb....lies dowwwwwnnnn.."). This was recorded in 1974 or 75, one of Bill's first session gigs after King Crimson broke up. I also highly recommend his work on Roy Harper's fantastic 1975 LP "HQ" too, especially on the ballad "Hallucinating Light."
While i recognize Genesis is one of the great rock bands of our time, i never purchased any of their music or realized anybody besides Collins played drums for them but now that im thinking about it, i see to remember them have two drummers at the same time for a bit? King Crimson is a different story, i was familiar with the band members as they came and went over the years and between my older brother and myself had a many if not, most of their music that was on vinyl and actually met Robert Fripp in the late 80s when he was doing a tour at many of the Disc record stores chain around the country promoting his multi recording device referred to as friptronics..i didnt miss much that KC, moody blues or ELP ever did.. Michael Giles was an amazing drummer- percussionist for them as well. I grew up playing guitar and RT was very near the top of the list of my guitar heros and hsd 8 or 10 of his LPs also, even an 8 track and a few cassetts and was (am) very familiar with and fond of Dewars vocals. When i made thid comment on here it was as i was hearing this solo album for the first time and im not sure why but wouldnt have expected to recognize the names of any of the players on it..nice surprise!
@@highkicks49 when Peter Gabriel left Genesis, the band eventually decided that Phil Collins, who had done some backing vocals and had been a child actor, would be frontman...he and Bill Bruford had become friends, Phil invited Bill to jam with his jazz-rock-fusion band Brand X...and then the story goes, Bill asked Phil what was up with Genesis and Phil said he was gonna be frontman but they couldn't find a drummer. Bill said "well why don't you ask me? You and I play a lot alike, you can be confident I can handle it while you explore the frontman thing." Bruford toured the world with Genesis in 1976 and did his customary outstanding job on Collins' drum parts...but having no creative input he got restless and moved on to his solo career. Phil Collins of course became a hugely successful pop star and eventually, tragically, had to stop drumming when he developed nerve damage in his hands or something. Michael Giles was indeed a great drummer too. If RT is Robin Trower, oh heavens yes what an awesome guitarist! I have to say, personally, I love his early work with Procol Harum best -- that incredible fuzztone sound. Did you know that apparently he and Fripp briefly explored the idea of recording as a duo in the mid 70s? Can you imagine?
This song, so wonderfully sung by James Dewar, and written by Dave Pierce and Steve Hammond, wasn't from the "Stumbledown Romancer" album. It was from the 1975 rock operetta "Flash Fearless vs. the Zorg Women, parts 5 & 6." Perhaps it was issued as a bonus track on a CD re-release of Stumbledown Romancer.
Wow. I've seen him on the OGWT and elsewhere with Robin Trower and was always impressed with his talents as a vocalist and bass player which helped make that group so much more than just a rock trio but this in a whole different league. He did one solo album - it's very unfortunate that he was never able to do more...
Grande instrumentista, cantor e compositor! Sou um grande fã há muitos anos! Estará para sempre em minha memória musical! Tassinho - Itanhaem - São Paulo - Brasil.
This is fabulous. Why have so few people heard this. Maybe they are diggin' the new James Blunt record......or Take That..... Quality is out of the fashion.......
Friggin fab, did the In City Dreams tour as a 3rd working for TFA Electrosound. We tried amusing things to get the dimmer noise out of Robin's guitar. Cheers James always a laugh and a smile!!
Brings me back to a girl I was talking to a while ago. She loved James, turned out she was too good for someone not of her faith. It's a shame because we had something special
Don't know exactly what it is, but I see similarities with Lowell George. Maybe "underratedness", maybe their "sound" maybe their "looks" but most likely just plain GREATNESS!!! Saw both live!
Without compromise, one of the most expressive singers of his day. He and Paul Rogers are at the top of my list.
that's a great pairing, him and Paul Rogers for sure!
No doubt

What law said one must sing in a shrill little voice instead of like a man?
I always wondered if they inhaled helium to do it, or took estrogen!
Found this album in 1977. did you? That must of been magical.
@@stevenworden1802 check out another great Scottish voice Frankie Miller
what an amazing voice. RIP Mr Dewar
Não sabia que ele era tão querido. Ele merece todos os elogios, pois, é espetacular mesmo. Recentemente, ganhou mais um fã: Eu.
, when a soulfull singer can make you feel what he did, well feel it

Best track on Flash Fearless versus the Zorg Women . Showing my age again
Paul Rogers couldn’t even come close to the deep vocal genius of Jimmy Dewar .
Yeah, that's true.
Not sure about that let's call it a draw
Thanks for sharing...
NEVER KNEW!! Been a fan since " Twice Removed". What do we have to do to get this out there?
Fantastic. Great upload.
Dewar, Entwistle, Hopkins, Bruford et al. Not a bad line-up (assuming I'm correct)!
Lowell George! All great of course!

a sad day when he passed away
Indeed my friend
Aunque la portada no pertenece a este tema, sino a Flash Fearless Vs. the Zorg woman. tema de Steve Hammond y David Pierce.
Who is playing the guitar on this Record?
I could be wrong but i think it was Robert A. Johnson
yes, Robert Johnson (NOT the delta blues legend, the whiz kid from Entwistle's Ox band., and he is terrific on this LP)
yes but... it is uncompleted!!! It´s a pity!
your welcome! :-)
