I'll be honest, I first started watching this channel for the Linux (it actually came out from the blue, I never opened it on purpose) but I would never subscribe - until these few "not so related to the topic" videos that somehow sold it to me. NOW I'm hitting that subscription button! And yet I think such videos are absolutely on topic and are related to Linux directly. Because Linux is not just lines of code. It's first of all the real people who create the entire world of open source and Linux. Here, the person matters, with everything unique each person has to bring. Because Linux is society. Linux is philisophy... But at this point I should stop, because I could be talking this for hours 😄
Thanks so much for checking out my vids and subbing! You have a good point, the philosophies of Linux go beyond just the operating system - a lot of the fundamental ideas are applicable in the real world.
Sometimes it’s the algorithms. I’ve came across the literal most life changing incredible video I’ve ever seen on RUclips it was similar like this video, a girl just talking in the woods sharing her perspective, and it literally changed my life. It was the most incredible profound message. I’m so so thankful of the lesson she shared. She had like 216 subscribers and it had 32 views. Literally it was better than info you get on flashy “mega channels” , so if you feel driven to share a message just put it out there! You never know the impact you’re helping or having on those 32 souls.
Thank you for sharing that - you're completely correct, even an action with a small reach can have significant impact. Similar concept to if a random person walks up to you to say something nice - it might be a passing thought for them, but will stick with you all day. Be that person to others.
@@BreadOnPenguins Thanks! Yeah. So true. Another way to think about it is the butterfly effect. The tiniest thing can have vast implications on someone else’s timeline.
I like your videos. very down to earth and approachable. It's refreshing to not have a youtuber try to sell me something or push an agenda. Just friendly opinions and a positive perspective.
At 38 years old, I still have to work on this. Being confident enough to talk about the things I think I know, so I can connect with like-minded people and in return learn from what they have to say. Confidence comes and goes often over the years, so keep at it and you'll be fine. Love your videos and the way it's presented. I've learned a lot from your videos, even though I have a lot of experience with the subject. Have fun and thank you for doing what you do.
One of my favorite creators recently, great at getting your point across, wether it be consiseness with explanations, or wording your yourself. Good job bread on penguins
Ppl being reminded of Luke Smith this ll help you grow in popularity. among linux nerds. . The dark room shots , in nature shots. .. you re nice and u give helpful tips.
I'm a complete and utter computer noob who's sick of MS, and I really enjoyed your tips for learning Linux. As a writer, this type of video was also valuable. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Hoping to study more about Linux and ease into it. :)
Everyone will ultimately face one of two pains on their deathbed: The pain of Discipline or the pain of Regret. Jim Rohn quote. Me personally, I find the pain of regret would be far worse.
You are right. Especially where u say that people create different identitiy on the internet. That's because inwardly they cannot accept themselves. Some don't like their look, some are afraid of rejection, and others have a different reasons to dislike them-own-selves. The worst enemy is a lie they believed somewhere on their way. Great charisma, btw. Let's make 10k subscribers untill the end of the month! :) God bless You in Jesus name with the best He has for you.
"The worst enemy is a lie they believed somewhere on their way." Completely correct, the only way I was able to overcome this was to look inwards and ignore any perceived pressure from others. It takes time, but it's possible to un-learn those lies. Thank you! 10k by the end of the month would be incredible. :) God bless.
I feel as though I am missing something while looking at these luke comments XD but non the less really loving these videos. Showing us noobs entry level stuff which is what I need. Thank you for stepping up and starting a channel. Wish you the best and looking forward to the future!
Lol to fill in the context, Luke Smith used to upload Linux videos and paved the way for a lot of modern Linux content. Thank you so much for your comment, I really appreciate it :)
I just found you recently and am loving every video! As a node/web dev who is trying to put themselves out in the world more you are extremely inspiring :)
Gratz, everything you have - you should be proud of it :) Also this kind of videos - i used to love them when i was younger, it helps to hear out people, who live through the same shit you do right now. I changed my career quite drastically somewhere around the covid hit , and changed my main os from windows to nix. I never though it was possible, but i did it. I'm a backend engineer now, i write in go, ts/js and a bit of C/Rust and Java. Regarding a band - i was not serious about it, but i did sing in a band when i was in uni. It's possible as well. We had gigs, we had singles. It did not work out. I'm glad i did it anyway. Don't fear, friends, life is too short! Do what you love, create, don't destroy yourself too quickly.
Thank you! :) It's always good to hear a success story of a big life change. Covid was a big push for me as well in the direction of being more independent from 'the system'. Even when creative ideas don't work out, you gain the experience and knowledge from trying - always worth a shot! Thanks for commenting!
I hope you continue to do more videos like this in addition to your Linux guides! You have a great presence. Very calming and i can relate to a lot of how you feel about being on the internet.
Confidence should come naturally at a certain point. It's a physiological state: you get more mental energy, become more bold, you take up more space, the voice tone changes. But then these traits may be looked upon in a bad light by some. Maybe in attempting to gain some moral ground, to gain some power in numbers from their weak side, to signal to others that will relate. Anyways, this may be nonsense. I'm currently watching the progress of this channel. Rooting for you! I see a strong increase in number in the past few days. From my limited perspective, it seems like Linux is a growing market on RUclips.
That's a good point - there are mindsets we obsess over when in reality they are meant to come naturally. Thank you! Linux as a whole has been growing a lot in the past few years so it stands to follow that Linux on YT grows as well.

Love all the informative videos! As someone who's currently struggling with some of the things you've talked about here, it really means a lot to hear. Also it's always great to see another Tim Hecker enjoyer out in the wild!
Absolutely no idea who Luke Smith is, but I like your example of starting a band (that was my journey). I like your channel cos I want to understand Linux better but I like tangents too. Thank you.
Appreciate your honest presentation. Keep going! I just found you yesterday and subscribed. I'll be looking through your videos. I have felt that Arch was beyond me but have now downloaded to a VM for a look. I'll be watching!

Fair enough - as long as you don't feel confined, then whatever floats your boat :) And I'm glad to hear that! Yeah, girls in tech or especially the Linux community are pretty rare in my experience
Great video and looking forward to more of your content. A little tip, look at the lens of the camera not the screen. You have no eye contact in this video.
New sub, title draw me in (because I legit did not know if it was a reference or GNU is something that kids say these days for like... I don't know.... drugs or something). Staying for content, love the vibe
I've tried going fully GNU, but the further i went the less the hardware became useable. It has it pro's and con's but imo, staying on Unix or at least, Linux is an essential part of GNU philosophy.

you deserve this. i really enjoyed watching your videos it is so helpful and has good informations. Also, do u know that penguins may huddle together for several reasons one of them to protect themselves from predators 🌠
I don't have the confidence issue that it won't work out or what if i fail, i have full confidence in my skills. But i have found it difficult to have conversations to people, as i have always been a silent type of person since my childhood, and only talked when needed to or with people who i know a lot about/care (not much with people i just know, but sometimes even with friends i just run out of conversations 😥). I'll be joining my first job next year, after graduation and i am scared that i won't be able to talk to people and get to know everything. I don't have trouble working in a team, but what if i am never taken seriously because i talk less...
It's more important to be a good listener than to just be able to talk. Especially at your first job, you'll have to listen to instructions and learn from your boss/coworkers. They will be satisfied even if you don't contribute much to social conversations, as long as you perform well at the job (and it sounds like you will, since you're confident in your skillset). If you can make a point of asking questions if you are unsure of anything, that's one of the best social skills you can have in a work environment. That will show you're engaged, too, even if you haven't talked much. Eye contact is also important, even if you don't speak people will know you're listening. Anyway, early congratulations to you on graduation! I'm sure you'll end up doing fine at your first job :)
You deserve many more subscribers. Wishing you the very best dear "Bread on Penguins" - I thank you very much for you responding to my messages on your Librewolf video. Thanks
New official upload schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, at 2pm Eastern / 11am Pacific / 6pm UTC - next vid will be up Tuesday!
Love it. Looking forward.
Do you have a community outside of RUclips? Such as discord/matrix/simplex/session/XMPP etc
Finally. Luke Smith returns!!
The prophecy that he would return has been fulfilled! 🙏
This time with lots of hair even
Indeed ;^)

I think it's better, feels like he got off his high horse.

penguins are really good at adapting to their environments. they can survive in temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F) and as high as 38°C (100°F)
Wow, huge range - I'm guessing it varies per species?

Might have to steal that for the future LOL
