    Personally, for me the *most* important thing in any religion is Lay Clergy, because *stuff* having the church control 1/3rd of your realm.

    I really like getting the Esoteric tenet as it'll almost always give you Wise Man when you go on a pilgrimage. Then since I tend to play scholar characters I get a nice Learning XP boost every few years. There's also a cultural trait you can add in on top of that which gives Wise Men a couple of percentage points of extra gold. I also like adding in Witchcraft as being accepted so I can make my own coven for tons of extra ability points.

    I usually prefer Warmonger, since it removes the offensive war opinion penalty on vassals. The problem is that instead, it gives you bad opinion on peace

    • @mortache

      Warmonger is irrelevant when you are big and can create a religion, since by then your vassals could conquer the entire world.

      That tiny bad opinion of ''at peace'' is not bad at all compared with puruit of power and ''offencive war'' penalty that can rack up really high if you are declaring wars non stop!

    I personally don't like having a lot of things be criminal in my religion but I certainly do like to experiment a bit with religion, I always end up playing a pagan faith because from the start you can wage county and duchy wars and it just depends on your fame level, I've found that personally now that I've been playing pagan faiths, Holy Wars do end up being harder especially for my Slovianska Prada playthrough trying to get Brave and the Bold achievement, since while the North was fully owned by my faith as I've eliminated Catholicism from Russia and Scandinavia, Bavaria, Germany and all of that area is all owned by Catholics and Holy Wars just bring every Catholic ruler into the fight. So Pursuit of Power is really good since it keeps you able to do county conquests and warmonger is bad since most of the time I am at peace building up my lands.

      I like when i have alot of sins in there because after you reform or create new one you wont need that much piety after that anyway. Having a lot of sins is nice for re structuring realm. 2 u r gonna be at the top so no one gonna revoke ur title.

    • @rockmcdwayne1710
      @rockmcdwayne1710 5 месяцев назад

      Warmonger is far better than pursuit of power. You get max negative penalty of 30 from warmonger and at peace so its not hard to deal with! You get much more benefits out of it though, subjugation casus belli for instance. Its most powerful casus belli in the game, especially in the late game when dealing with large kingdoms/empires. Being able to take all that land in a single war is just too good to pass if you go for world conquest!
      On a sidenote, if you really dont like this... ''at peace'' penalty, you can add human sacrifice in your religion so you have ''war for captives'' casus belli. You can always raid your neighbours for prisoners and it will count as a war obviously!

    • @lordjustinian2913
      @lordjustinian2913 5 месяцев назад

      @@rockmcdwayne1710 But the subjugation casus belli can be the cause of massive problems. Aka you don't take the title away from the owner of the title and thus have to take the time to convert them and basically befriend the guy you just went to war with to ensure stability, you see I like stability, I play as usually a nice king who sees stability with his vassals as the most important thing.

      @@lordjustinian2913 Late game when you are emperor yourself conquering other empires or large kingdoms you dont really care. All you care about is more territory.
      You can send a new vassal a gift or an artifact to mellow them out or... if they rebel, you put them down and revoke their titles and give them to your dynasty member. No big fuss at all.
      Also, if you happen to have high enough dread, you go over all the vassals under your new king and demand conversion. If they are terrified, they will accept 100%! Or alternatively, if you are a living legend and religious icon, they will like you enough to accept it anyway!
      Thing with subjugation war is that, it does not respect any dejure borders, it takes all the territory of the ruler and makes it yours. Otherwise you need to declare multiple wars to take that same land, often against the same ruler and truce slows you down even further!
      I wouldnt recommend using that casus belli with a fresh ruler though. If you have just taken over with your heir, your realm is not stable enough. I usually do it later in life when i already have long reign and all sort of other bonuses running so if the new vassal you just subjugated is abit too salty about thier new circumstances, they wont pull other vassals into any liberty factions or what not!
      That being said, if you have built up your kingdom/empire ''properly'' you shouldnt worry too much about these things anyway. Just toss around gold and artifacts towards unhappy vassals, usually gets them to 100 approval. Hold feasts, go to majesty tours and what not. Theres many ways to gain loyalty of your vassals if you own money printing machines at home estate:D

    • @lordjustinian2913
      @lordjustinian2913 5 месяцев назад

      @@rockmcdwayne1710 I don't use subjugation wars ever, cause even as an emperor I do kind of care but then I usually play a specific playstyle, pagan reformation and so usually I am not conquering other pagans, I am conquering Christian or Islamic rulers and I would rather take their lands directly and give them to members of my own religion because my purpose is to give a strong power base to my ruler's faith in the game so subjugation is just a bad casus belli to use even for an older character you've played as for longer. Because I want to truly get rid of the Christian families in the game and inspire stronger Pagan family lines.

    Best custom religion depends on what you wanna do. If you want stupid amounts of money, then yeah this is probably one up there. But if you want to conquer the world, you need warmonger to get rid of that offensive war opinion, or you are forced to go very slowly. Currently no christian faith or custom christian faith can get warmonger. There is one muslim faith that has it (Azraqism)

    Pursuit of power is actually pretty bad compared to warmonger. Alot of negative effects that you get from pursuit of power compared with warmonger that only has 1 negative effect, namely at peace oppinion penalty! On top of that, with warmonger religion, your vassals are very motivated to go out there and expand your borders themselves! Its not nearly the same with pursuit of power!
    Besides, ambitious and disloyal are really not the traits you want on your vassals and these things are going to pop out more if they are virtues!
    Warmonger also gives you one subjugation war per lifetime so, if you are strong enough you can invade another giant realm and subjugate its ruler, making it part of your territory!
    Also, i would heavily disagree with your choices on ''shun'' options! I find it much better to have max things that are criminal to get legitimate reasons to revoke titles, especially from some powerful vassals that have gotten too powerful or if you want to replace them with your dynasty memebers!
    Keep in mind that, the more dynasty memebers hold titles within your realm, more stable it becomes in the long run because you usually get extra oppinion bonuses towards dynasty members as the game progresses!
    You also seem to have missed 1 very powerful combination, namely, ley clergy + aniconism?!

      you need many followers. the whole point of communion is that they pay you to absolve their sin which is 100 gold. so they need to be a sinner and have 100 gold then they will pay you, this is why you need many followers because they AI will try their best not to be bad depending on their personal traits. for me communion usually kicks in at 100+ realm counties.
