Was installing a ceiling fan and was doing it hot. As soon as I touched the black wire sheathing not the copper. It tripped while standing on a bed. I found it neat that a arc fault will trip without touching the bare wire
My question is like lets say i have a laser printer a arc fault breaker doesn't like. Can i just put a regular breaker in without breaking the rules. I don't think it's a good idea to have arc fault or gfci on refrigerators and freezers. Other than that i think arc and gfci are great safety features
Great question! Arc fault breakers (AFCIs) can sometimes be sensitive to certain devices, like laser printers, because of the way they draw power. However, removing an AFCI breaker and replacing it with a standard breaker may not comply with electrical code requirements depending on where you live. AFCI breakers are typically required in most areas for circuits in bedrooms, living rooms, and other living spaces to protect against electrical fires caused by arc faults. They are required in kitchens as well. A lot of progress has been made by the manufacturers to eliminate much of the nuisance tripping of AFCI devices. For refrigerators and freezers, you’re correct that GFCI or AFCI protection can sometimes cause nuisance tripping. The NEC (National Electrical Code) now requires GFCI protection for outlets in garages and basements, which can include refrigerators. A workaround for this is potentially using dedicated circuits and consulting a licensed electrician to ensure compliance with code while minimizing nuisance trips. Ultimately, both AFCIs and GFCIs are excellent safety devices, and it’s always a good idea to balance safety with functionality. Thanks for bringing up this important topic!
