On top of not understanding his origin and his powers, Ichigo inherently hates himself. And it’s mainly because all of his life, he believed that his mother died because of him.
He never fully moved on from the moment that his mother was killed protecting him. The worst moment of his life was being trapped under his dead mother’s body, believing that it was all his fault. And it just so happened to *rain* that day; whenever he falls into despair, the rain falls in his inner world, and he mentally goes back to being that same kid that very day.
The reason he wants to protect people so badly is because he would give anything to have been able to save his mother that day. When Isshin tells him that Ywach was the reason his mother died, the most traumatic experience he ever had was finally off of his conscience. He doesn’t have to hate himself anymore. He can finally move on and become what he was always meant to be.

Ichigo's development is excellent, both for him and for those around him, as we progress through the Bleach story we realize its small details and we even think "hey this protagonist couldn't evolve", when we reach the middle of the story, to begin with we see a much more mature and open Ichigo than in soul society.
Let's look at the case of Renji Abarai, their destiny was to confront each other but that friendship and rivalry was formed, and Uryu and Ichigo were forging more, the more friendship is their best friend/right-hand man.
But the turning point here is that Ichigo grew as a person and opened up. At the beginning he was the tough guy who had a good heart but a bad attitude, and when we get to the end of the series we see a calmer and much more composed Ichigo. closer than before.
Whoever says that Ichigo has no evolution, could he read the returned work?
There have been many misconceptions about Ichigo's character.
Since it was revealed that Ichigo is a Quincy, I've seen some pretty horrendous shots.
In particular, the guy is the embodiment of plot armor because he has an "ever-important" "power source" in bleach.
and when you look at this “analysis” at a surface level, you ignore the broader thematic picture.
Ichigo's journey is about finding balance within himself and his power represents the inner chaos of his father, Quincy and Hollow of his mother.
but what we see in Ichigo is that he unconsciously rejects his mother's parts of himself, constantly blaming himself for her passing, which is why he has this white knight complex, but always carrying this burden.
He forgets something important: to protect others and save his loved ones, he must first save himself and only after accepting all aspects of who he is.
    let it really become strong.
"Ichigo has no goals" is something I would say or think if I had never seen Bleach, but somehow a lot of people who have read or watched the series have come to this conclusion without me being able to really understand why Ichigo's goals don't. can be fulfilled. Don't be so ambitious.
Or demand that he obtain something in the conventional sense like Naruto and Luffy, but he clearly states in the first arc of the manga that he wants the strength to protect those around him, he wants to have the ability to prevent deaths like his mother's,because of his weakness. Now, you don't have to like Ichigo's goal or even think it's all that convincing, but saying he doesn't have one is low-IQ illiterate behavior.
    ...
Ichigo is a character built and developed under constant suffering and a gradual release from some of this suffering. It is surprising how his objectives are realistic and so linked to the most basic principles of survival and social life: preventing his dear friends, dad, sisters and "just people" from dying, not letting happen what unfortunately happened to his lovely mother.
Both Ichigo's constant suffering and his gradual liberation can be seen when, for example, he fights the Arrancar. He completely denies his hollow parts, but, throughout the battles, gradually accepts more and more. Compared to another character, we could say that Aizen, for example, is so chaotic because he does not have the balance represented by the four races from which Ichigo withdraws his powers (Quincy, Shinigami, Hollow and Human); four is the number of superstability. Ichigo's character is one of the most realistic. At first we can see that his behavior is exactly the same as that of most teenagers. He's not like other Shounen MCs who are always optimistic and happy and lucky. Ichigo takes a lot of L and makes some silly mistakes, but that's normal because people make mistakes and he learns some valuable lessons to improve, not only physically but psychologically. In the end we can see that he becomes more mature

I would say yhwach is not a hate of one's self when he took the soul Kings power I feel like all the souls he took and the power of god just broke him cause from that point he's not the same as he once was and just wants to cause what all the souls inside him have felt despair and that also ties into what aizen says in the end

Part of White's point in the king and his horse speech is how the king's killer Instinct allows him to use the horse as a tool. A horse on its own will run from danger, but when being ridden by a "king", it instead will rely on the rider's instincts rather than its own. If White is the "horse" and Ichigo is the "king", White expects to be able to trust his "king's" instinct that Ichigo wasn't embracing. Strategic thinking is good, but Ichigo only used it instead of trusting his own instinct, causing his will to falter, making him weak to White. White is pure instinct, so he refuses to submit to a king that ignores his own instinct. It's why to drive the point home, the last memory Ichigo is subjected to is Kenpachi, a man who is an embodiment of instinct in battle.

One of the things the Anime did beautifully, was when he talks to the blades as they're reforged. He says he won't ask to borrow your strength, and the shorter blade melts into blue light, and an image of Old Man Zangetsu in Orange. He says he won't refuse him and tell him to stay back, and the larger blade melts into red light, the image shown then is Shiro in Orange. As the lights float up around him, they become orange as he reaffirms, he won't ask them to fight along side him, because he will fight alone, his spirits now watching over him in the lights. That's amazing imagery that just adds so much to the speech. Studio Peirrot have really pulled out all the stops for Bleach, and it's amazing.

Hell ep 1 his bed has the Quincy cross on it. His writing was a slow burn but just culminated in the final arc.

I have to strongly disagree. "Everything But The Rain" and "The Blade is Me" should've completely destroyed Ichigo Kurosaki as a person. He shouldn't have found acceptance, he should've been cast deeper into calamity and ultimately ask himself "Do I even want to save these people anymore?"
I understand what Ichigo's journey is theoretically about: Problem is I don't see that moment as a triumph. I see that as the adults in his life, the people responsible for his duty of care, responsible for educating him about the world he's going to inhabit by dint of being the accidental genetic melt pot he is, completely and utterly **failing** him on every conceivable level. Deliberately so. For the sole purpose of turning him into a pliant tool for whatever suits their purposes.
Kisuke needed a tool to defeat Aizen. Aizen wanted a measuring stick. Soul Society wanted bait for Ginjo Kugo. Zero Division needed a replacement Soul King. etc.
Thematically and animated? The Blade Is Me is a visually beautiful moment.
On paper, with all the factors taken into account: Complete and utter joke.
Imagine you're Ichigo for a second. A eighteen year old.
At 15, you're already given reason to doubt your father's trustworthiness because he's been revealed as a Shinigami and never told you. You don't push it further because there's more pressing matters to handle and you literally don't have the time (before your old man forces you to cut out half your own soul).
Then at 18, at your lowest possible moment, your sword destroyed and personally thoroughly humiliated by the people you were there to save, your father drops the bombshell to end all bombshells: your mother wasn't actually human either and was murdered by someone.
First meaning the truth you lived by your entire life, that you're human, was a lie. You're not human at all, or at least only in the vaguest definition. Second; that your father knew your mother was murdered all along, who the murderer was, and could've revealed this to you to alleviate your emotional and psychological suffering any time after you learned *his* secret, but didn't. Instead he allowed you to continue believing that psychologically damaging lie, seemingly to cultivate the pathological need to martyr yourself to protect others.
No matter how mature they purport to be, a teenager, especially one of Ichigo's age, wouldn't say 'thank you' upon hearing their entire life has been built upon lies. They'd say f*ck you and leave, their trust irrevocably destroyed and world view completely shattered and you'd never hear from them again.
To me, what would make Ichigo a better character is calling all of this out and truly striking out on his own; he rejects the manipulation of Kisuke, the manipulation of Zero Division, the manipulation of Yhwach (the sword AND the physical person) and truly creates his own fate, becoming the ultimate wild card in the TYBW conflict.

Quincy!Zangetsu never try to manipulate Ichigo, is more like the oposite, he try to make Ichigo not to fight to SAVE him from the plots from the adults in his life (He explicity say that he want to prevent Ichigo become a Soul Reaper)
The fact is that Ichigo knows that he is in the plot of Isshin, Urahara, Ukitake and Ywatch (he say that to Ginjo) but he CHOOSE to fight because he want to protect the people he love
He thanks his father for tell him the truth, for finally gave him the choose
At the end Quincy!Ichigo is not other than Ichigo itself, a part of his who know the truth and want to make Ichigo stop; is the Ichigo who is depressed, who has a STRONG Survivor Syndrome and just want to escape... but at the end that part decides to give up, because Ichigo KNOWING the truth decide to still fight
Ichigo conclussion is that he doesn't care if he was manipulated or if he shouldn't be the one who fight for everyone; he WANT to take that role, but to more because the guilt or the plot of somebody else but because that what make feel him proud of himself
