But that's what the presumption of innocence is, and it applies in every single case. Perhaps "...a crime that he didn't commit..." isn't the ideal way to word things, but at issue is the idea that you can't prove a negative ("Okay then, PROVE that unicorns don't exist!"), and it's unjust to leave the suggestion of guilt perpetually hanging over somebody. If you can't prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt, then you are obliged to assume that any person - Pell, or some bloke down the road - is innocent. The principle applies to every person in society, and it lies at the heart of the law in all Western democracies.

Lack of evidence, or mis-handling evidence doesn't mean a lack of guilt. Miscarriage of justice, really, for who, the victim or the perpertrator. Just because a high court rules he is innocent doesn't mean he is not guilty. Rule of Law, well people go by morals and ethics and make up their own minds, so the onus of proof is less than the rigid legal system. After all, we all know that justice and the law rarely meet. Justice certainly wasn't the final outcome of this, but a travesty of it!
He seems to me to be holding up very well. I have asked previously that if and when you are finished with him could he come to Oz and give our Pauline a few pointers please?
If Andrew Bolt is so commited to following the law, why doesn't he speak out about the Catholic Church opening admitting they will refuse to comply with child-abuse mandatory reporting laws?
It is disgusting that the accuser is still being treated as a victim. Yes, he was abused by a priest. That is no excuse for lying about Cardinal Pell. Cardinal Pell is the victim, his accuser is a predator who is trying now to get a civil judgment based on his lies about Cardinal Pell. He should, instead, be charged with perjury and imprisoned.
I thought we were not to travel anywhere that is not necessarily. They are saying stay home. Pell was allowed to travel from Vic to NSW the next day. So really we are allowed to travel. !!!!
So he is suggesting stop persecution of Pell and start persecution of police force, We can ignore the fact that Pell presided over decades of catholic abuse of children and was liable every time he moved an abusive priest from one abusive location to another. We should forget the times abuse was reported to him and he took no action. Moving a priest to another location so they could continue their abuse is totally complicit in the problem. While he was investigated for abuse how many abusive priests did he help to bring to face justice. If people came forward to say pell abused them they would have needed to be very brave to go through the agony all over again. You do not support your church by pushing evil acts by its ministers under the carpet. Worldwide the catholic church has many questions it needs to answer. That's not to say the legal service is blameless they have been complicit in cover ups of the church wrong doing as well. Many of them are catholic too and will not want to be involved in inflicting damage to the church and its servants better to look the other way the children can be ignored. Now we know the true meaning of the church's "suffer little children to come under me"

This was a good segment. What I believe and Pell did or did not is irrelevant. As one of the guests said, our faith in government (inc police and the law), plus the media is at a low point. Identity politics is at an extreme. We don’t judge people by their merit. We judge them by their identity. What’s worse, many people comment on our “progress” over the last few decades. It’s regression. I think most people would see the last 30 years as a backward step. Our politicians should have stood up to this, so should have the courts. It’s good to see recognition of how broken things are. However, discombobulation is the norm these days. Too many presenters at Sky virtue signal if and when it suits them. Then, they complain about identity politics.
How many people committed suicide in jail because are given many years and they were innocent???!!!! Unfortunately not everyone can fight their case and 95% of people plea guilty at an early stage hoping to get a lesser sentence while instead we ALL should have the right to a fair trial and this should not be available only to people that can afford it!!!!! The whole justice system is definitely not right in Australia!!!!!!!
The good people of Victoria who believe in the rule of law should raise funs to help George Pell sue the whole sorry lot of them for what they done to him.
When you say didn’t commit, he was found not guilty, that is not the same didn’t commit! I ask you how many crimes do you think go unpunished. Remember that the Catholic Church don’t just hand over child rapists, they usually send them to other countries. To get them out of the way.
Victoria police did the same thing with Blair Cottrell when he was convicted for protesting against mosque construction in Bendigo. Victoria Police went trawling for complaints in the community and in the end had to use a Victorian Police officer as the complainant against him.
I'm on the fence regarding George Pells guilt. Usually I'd say where there's smoke there's fire. Wasn't he suspected more than the occasions in just the 90's of molesting/abusing young boys? Whether you're for or against the judgement of the high court, it's an absolute blunder the Australian legal system has made.

Rule of Law, well people go by morals and ethics and make up their own minds, so the onus of proof is less than the rigid legal system. After all, we all know that justice and the law rarely meet. Justice certainly wasn't the final outcome of this, but a travesty of it!
Premier Andrews: I saw what you did, I heard what you did and I want you, the Victoria Police and the ABC prosecuted for this miscarriage of justice.
Thank you Andrew for your great work.
Sounds like what Trump has to go through every day !
He seems to me to be holding up very well. I have asked previously that if and when you are finished with him could he come to Oz and give our Pauline a few pointers please?
Lindy chamberlain
So true about Lawer X
richardperth2002 Perth so many lawyer X
Police is corrupt!!!!
If Andrew Bolt is so commited to following the law, why doesn't he speak out about the Catholic Church opening admitting they will refuse to comply with child-abuse mandatory reporting laws?
George Pell let go on a technicality. No justice.
The big question is what nasty secret does Pell know about Victoria police?
It is disgusting that the accuser is still being treated as a victim. Yes, he was abused by a priest. That is no excuse for lying about Cardinal Pell. Cardinal Pell is the victim, his accuser is a predator who is trying now to get a civil judgment based on his lies about Cardinal Pell. He should, instead, be charged with perjury and imprisoned.
I thought we were not to travel anywhere that is not necessarily. They are saying stay home. Pell was allowed to travel from Vic to NSW the next day. So really we are allowed to travel. !!!!
So he is suggesting stop persecution of Pell and start persecution of police force,
We can ignore the fact that Pell presided over decades of catholic abuse of children and was liable every time he moved an abusive priest from one abusive location to another.
Now we know the true meaning of the church's "suffer little children to come under me"
Cardinal Pell needs to start sueing these wankers.
Victoria should be given to NZ, they deserve each other....
@brian sullivan country victoria is still a normal oasis in a sea communism kerang cohuna gunbower all great towns i wish i could go hunting fishing and camping but no Comrade Andrews sought to that
Just another example of money buying justice.
Pell only got off because Abbott and Howard jumped in and saved his arse, not because his innocent. Tells you something about those two!
Great reporting. This can happen to anyone.
How much confidential information was passed from Vic Police to Louise Milligan and other ABC journalists ?
I've got one thing to say to Victoria police, and to the Vic Premier, and ABC - good luck trying to argue with the High Court!
I cant claim to know much about the case however the anonymity of the internet has directly given way to aggressive cancel culture and the court of public ignorance opinion!
The Victoria Police persecuted Ned Kelly. Why would it stop now?
Gerald Ridsdale, enough said.
All does involved in this shocking saga must be call to accountability in order to restore trust.
Victoria police under Comrade Andrews rule. Victorians please vote him out at the next state election. Its going to be a long agonising wait.
Shameful display by this lynch mob.
thy must be made to be accountable..
The high court made have found him innocent Mr Bolt, but in the court of public opinion he is still guilty. Your position is delusional.
Amen!
The good people of Victoria who believe in the rule of law should raise funs to help George Pell sue the whole sorry lot of them for what they done to him.
who was in the high court making the decision to let him out???
funny about the timing of it.
7 judges obviously not corrupt and not ABC believers!
When you say didn’t commit, he was found not guilty, that is not the same didn’t commit! I ask you how many crimes do you think go unpunished. Remember that the Catholic Church don’t just hand over child rapists, they usually send them to other countries. To get them out of the way.
Corrupt police, DPP and judiciary, in any state, should be imprisoned.
Well you know andrew police will volunteer to resign. Who would ? People don't resign unless an investigation is held by the police
The media also must be severely punished.
I quite like the ABC except on Pell.
Totally Agreed.
This is what happens in a society that has a weak identity and a ‘to each their own’ attitude to everything. This is your own fault Australia. You either vote left or sit on the fence. Weak!
Those polices should put their uniforms and they should go and be shepherds!
Until it comes directly out of there pocket, not the gravy train of the tax system, see how it would change, after all if there so right they to have nothing to fear,as we are told so often.
