Rod Stewart is the nicest guy you will ever meet. After a concert in Vegas he randomly meet a large number of British fans who had come to his show and shouted drinks all night. Rod started as a busker and he still joins in with buskers in the street before it became a thing. At one of his shows he had a busker he had met join him on stage and sing with him.
ROD STEWART AND FACES, WITH "MAGGIE MAY" WAS THE NUMBER ONE HIT IN THE HEARTS OF MANY MY FRESHMAN YEAR IN HIGHSCHOOL. ALL TIME BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC. MORE ROD AND FACES "STAY WITH ME".. ANOTHER GREAT FAVORITE SONG... BEAUTIFULLY DONE SCRIBE.. ALSO LOVELY VASE OF FLOWERS 💐
Ah, the early seventies. I can remember when and where I was when I first heard this cut. (It was a bar) Your reaction was spot on... as usual. Have a great week-end, nice lady Frank W. Canada
Thank you so very much man for playing this very beautiful song that used to be one of my favorite songs from back in the day and still is. God bless you mam. And I do hope and pray that you and yours have a very beautiful New Year with many, many afterwards. God bless you. Adios.
The mandolin player was a guy called Ray Jackson he was out of a very successful British band called Lindisfarne from my home area - amazing harmonies check out their Run for Home. He still complains that he only got £15.00 for playing it. Also you should take up the bass I noticed you liked the bass before you mentioned it. The guitarist now plays for The Rolling Stones.
All star band backing rod Stewart and don't you wish you had a gifted voice like his. Try every picture has a story, or reason to believe. Both off of the same album as Maggie may. This song brings so many memories of the early 70s in school. I'm 64 and I love hearing this song every once in a while. There was so many awesome singers, songs and bands back then.
This is one of those songs that crosses over every genre.. o matter what your preference of music style is.. everyone like this song.. even the headbangers. They won’t admit it... lol. But they like it...
Love, love, love the mandolin in this song! I play that instrument, and it's just cool to hear it outside of a bluegrass/country song . This is one of Rod's earlier and more critically acclaimed songs, as well being one of his biggest hits. You did a great review, and I like the new background, too!
"You Wear It Well." Is another Rod Stewart tune worth listening to. " Stay With Me." Rod Stewart and Faces. Is his absolute, best No# 1 Rock & Roll tune that, helped put him on the map back in the early 70s.
My first concert was Rod Stewart in Ottawa, Ontario, Andy Gibb opened , his first ever live performance. Remember people smoking strange smelling cigarettes !!!!!!
Rod Was a Great singer in those days. Must have been a hard worker as well in the space of about 6 years he was the lead singer for Jeff Beck group 2 albums, Faces 4 albums and 5 solo albums. 11 albums in 6 years as well as live albums and was the pinball wizard in the rock opera tommy those were the years he did his best work but he has always been great.
Maggie May-Rod-1972-Lloret Del Mar. The first holiday abroad aged 18 and this was THE song from that holiday. TRIPLE BARCADI and COKE in a long glass........................TEN PENCE.....
“Reason to Believe”, “Hot Legs”, “You’re in my Heart”, and many others are worth a listen. This song played constantly during the summer of 1971 and millions of girls/women (myself included) fell in love with this gravelly voice.
So glad you did rod a fellow capricorn I still got his first album its wore out next rainy day put on his first album and waste the day he was a soccer player before he became a rock singer. well I see him more a folk/pop singer. I heard him the other day live and compare to other artists of his age he still sounds just like he always did or maybe better.i seen you did a song by him the other day called "do you think I'm sexy" that is a big departure from his early stuff but in the late 70s slot of artists felt like if they didn't get on the disco train they would be over. KISS even did a disco song..but Rod Stewart pulled it off perfectly..kudos love ya gotta go.🤘
Did you notice that the guitar player is better known as the lead guitarist for the Rolling Stones. His name is Ronny Wood. This song is off the album, 'Every Picture Tells A Story' which I think is one of the best albums from that era. Rod's voice was so unique and the Faces were one of the best bands to play behind a singer. Rod has done many fine albums since but I think this was his best. Every song on this album was a hit. You would not be wasting time to listen to all of it. Thanks for talking me back to when I was your age. Fun Fact: Rod was the first singer, I think, to have an aluminum microphone stand and there fore could wave it all around the stage.
@@cpprcrk1833 no Charlie Watts has drummed only for the Stones. He was an an original member. He may have a solo project or two in there but, his day job is the stones. Ronny is about the 4th or 5th lead guitarist; But he is the longest tenured guitarist besides Keith Richards who also is an original member.
The mandolin (chimes) is played on the record by Lindisfarne's Ray Jackson. Like CCR in the U.S, Lindisfarne appeared, became hugely influential, then promptly disappeared, not without leaving their mark though. 'Nicely out of Tune' is one of the great Folk-Rock albums if you ever get the time to have a listen.
What you're seeing is Rod Stewart sporting the legendary 70's mullet! Also I think the the dark haired guy with the yellow pants is Ron Wood future member of The Rolling Stones.
I have been listening to this song since I was a young teen in 1971. Almost 50 years and it remains one of my favorite songs of all time. I hate to break it to you after all these years but it is "wreck my bed". Happy Holidays!
That chimes was the late great uk dj John Peel on mandolin. His fav song was reported to be the Undertones' Teenage Kicks - worth checking out if only out of respect to JP.
Some of the band Faces is from Small Faces (Steve Marriott lead singer) Check out live version of Ichycoo Park. The guitar player with dark hair is Ron Wood and played with everyone but mostly the Rolling Stones.
Written by Rod (and I think the mandolin player) pretty much about the real life relationship of Rod as a young man with a much older woman! Her name wasn't Maggie BTW! 😀
The sparse, punchy, country guitar solo puts all the shredders to shame, when the mandolin hits it's divine, glad you discovered Rod. He does a great version of "Mandolin Wind" with Ron Wood unplugged, a must see concert, others great tunes are handbags and gladrags, gasoline alley, blind prayer, you wear it well, all classics. Love you kiddo and your reactions.
The video features The Faces. On the recording, Ronnie Wood is the Guitarist and Bass player and Ian McLagan on keys are the only members of the band. But the live BBC version is really good, that's the video they lifted from.
ronnie wood in the background - i think he played mandolin and on mandolin wind rod played banjo. saw them many times in the 70s - bless you for turning up with this gem.
Notice the guy in the black and white jacket with the yellow pants that is Ronnie Wood he left Rod to go play with the Rolling Stones. and that sound you heard at the end is a mandolin honey.
No one like him. So original. You can't improve on it or replace it. I want to go back but I am stuck with rock music that will never return. Sorry but the current state of the world is making me sad today.
I love this song & the intro (there is a longer version its almost medieval sounding) omg the woooo whooo whoooo in the end is 100% perfect, holy f*ck, & mandolin guitars
You might like In A Broken Dream by Python Lee Jackson with Rod on lead vocals, always thought his voice worked better on the more blues influenced songs than some of the disco stuff he released later.
So you like the sound of a mandolin - Played here by Ray Jackson, a Brittany folk scene musician. You might check out MANDOLIN WIND, also from Rod Stewart.
This guy is really good check out I don’t want to talk about it and The killing of George. You are still holding down the top spot in case you were wondering!!
There was a minor celebrity back in the day named Connie Hamzy, a groupie made famous by the line in the Three Dog Night song, "Sweet sweet Connie doing her act. She had the whole show and that's a natural fact." She later claimed to have had an affair with Bill Clinton. In a television interview she was asked all the celebrities she has been with, who had the biggest penis. She immediately answered, "Without question, Rod Stewart." Maybe that explains how as a young person he got into the "kept man" game.

Simply one of the greatest vocalists of all time, so much emotion and feel in his voice. A damned good writer in his prime too.

Toy boy Rod! Fact, Rod was a semi professional soccer player and apparently could've gone on with it but decided on the rock n roll life.

The mandolin is also used somewhat famously on R.E.M.'s "Losing My Relgion"

NOT chimes! Mandolin is most likely, an antique stringed guitar type instrument.
That's a mandalin a 12 string acoustic guitar. Big sound.
