Bands like The Hives, The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of leon took us out of the stagnation that was coined by the press as Britpop. By the late 90's nothing new really caught our attention until the Strokes came along then everything changed.
If you feel the Hives or Arctic Monkeys as anything even close to be called fresh - good luck. For mainstream rock the final came in 90's. Wait 10 or 20 years - nobody would remember hives etc.

Saw them maybe 2 years later at a festival, playing after Bad Religion, one of the best experiences in my life.
