Listening to this is like being carried on a wave of sound.
This whole album is 🔥
Agreed. Their 'Urban Hymns' is an amazing album. Also, their earlier albums 'A Northern Soul' and 'A Storm in Heaven' have some great songs too.
How can this be from 25 years ago! It's insane how it's still so powerful. Ashcroft is one of our finest singer/songwriter/performers and this song just proves it.
The guitar work on this album is a work of art.
I love the fact you guys actually listened to the song and reacted as it happened. Lot's of reaction videos to music have people constantly stopping the song to comment, so glad you didn't. Subscribed
The Verve were formed in 1990, in Wigan which is a large town in Greater Manchester, England. Lucky Man is beautiful, you just get carried away by this wonderful song, it's gorgeous. The lead vocalist and one of the founder members of the band, Richard Ashcroft started a solo career in 2000 and there's a couple of his songs I really like and have downloaded - Break the Night with Colour and Words Just Get in the Way. Thanks for your great reaction, guys. Just wanted to say I look forward to you reacting to my special request when you can, that would be brilliant. As you know it has been a few weeks since I requested it, but I know you've been busy with other things. Take care George and Patrick, and hope to hear from you soon. 😊😊
Brutally underated at least. This band low key produced music that gave me existential crisis.
Along with many other comments here, this song is a masterpiece; a miracle . . . . Perfect.
The Verve is one of my favorite bands of all time! The have endless emotional well put together songs! Also a psychedelic touch to many of their songs! Check out as much as you can! Especially in their early years they produced amazing songs! 🫶🏼🥰
So atmospheric and layered. Beautiful reaction. Thanks guys!! ✌🏼
Wow, never heard this song. It’s beautiful. I’m definitely downloading it.
Great band, Richard Ashcroft is a legend! Next for the Verve try The Drugs Don't Work and Sonnet, just to name a couple.
When I was 25 and going through quite a lot and first heard this song - man, it made an instant impact (a positive one!). "How many corners do I have to turn? / How many times do I have to learn?" etc.
Let's just say - in 1997, it hit the bullseye.
This one and The Drugs Don't Work are my favourite Verve songs.
The verve is my favorite band of all time and for some reason it never got really popular.
This album (urban hymns) and "A storm in Heaven" are also some of my favorite albums of all time. They are simply perfect.
My head teacher played this song in the last assembly before our final exams...A reminder that our destiny was in our own hands.
The 'details' was a very good observation from you. The song is so well 'layered' that you can literally listen to it hundreds of times and never get bored. There's always different elements to focus on.
This song is used beautifully to add to a scene of pure happiness on the beach in the wonderful movie Marley and Me
that film makes me cry every time!! awesome song and film 🥰🐕
The Verve are a fantastic band. One of the greatest bands from the 90s for sure.
Yes - It is like a wave of sound carrying uplifting, moving lyrics. I will listen to this song many times more.
This song is my Dad I was 19 when he died my step dad just passed away Lucky man is my perfect song it will always be my song for my Dad's
One of your best songs and reactions, what a song. I remember when this came out.. so popular.
Urban Hymns is one of my favorite albums.
The verve has so many versions of this:
The string Mix
Haigh hall
Radio version
Acoustic...it goes on they are all brilliant
The entire album is an absolute masterpiece. You should try it out. But I love you guys’ breakdowns and your ability to pick up on vocal transitions and match them. I’m subbing.
one of my fav singers !! All their tunes are such sentimental classics !
this song is better than any prozac. its life! is like you believe in human being again...
Richard ❤. Favourite artist of all time!!!! Amazing Ax
The moment it started I felt this was Patrick's vibe
History is a great great verve song. Richards solo work is great too.
Glad you love this one brothers,
Lucky Man is my favourite Verve song and in my topo 10 of all time
The Verve, like The Jam, should never have split up -- they were both destined for greatness.
Nope the jam quit at the right time and ended on a high ... the verve reformed and put out a mediocre album ..... Paul weller remains the best British songwriter ever
They are also great live.
I saw them live (outdoors) at Slane Castle, Ireland, in 1998.
70,000+ people were there that day, it was amazing.
Check them out singing “History” they did a nice version at Glastonbury.
Love The Verve ❤
Great taste guys. As a college kid in the 90s I was obsessed with britpop. I still listen to it regularly. It’s interesting how some bands albums fade from my heart while others grow deeper into it. The Verve is a band I’ve always loved and Urban Hymns has only grown in my soul and has become part of my life. My particular favorite track is “Velvet Morning” but “Sonnet” is something I think you would love. Might I recommend another band from the 90s that have become a stalwart in my heart and I listen to them pretty much daily. They are called Ride. “Nowhere” is their 1992 debut album and “Vapour Trail” is far and away their most celebrated track. I’d love you to react to it.
Never heard this song before. Thanks
i saw the Verve at the V98 festival - they were awesome
I got into The Verve later in life, around the year 2000. But they're one of my all time favorite bands now and I love every one of their albums. Urban Hymns is definitely the biggest selling, but their earlier stuff is some super sonic goodness.
Best song EVER! No debate!
This is the cream of the 90s
First time I've ever seen a reaction from this song... I appreciate it... I'm now subscribing...
Virgin music festival 2000 (UK) at the front with my BF. Emotional.
This takes me back to 1997, the year before I finished primary school. That sometimes feels like a different world. Crazy how much things can change in 25 years. It is interesting though, comparing this with older songs, how prominent the vocals are in the mix. If f****** love the strings and organ swell at the end. I remember there was an independent record shop in my hometown that played Urban Hymns on a loop all day everyday in the late 90s, pretty much until it closed down in the 2000s.
I was in 2nd year high school doing bongs and listening to to this and the prodigy,
One thing that makes The Verve stand out for me is those big string arrangements. They did that so well. There is an awesome solo song from Richard Ashcroft called They Don't Own Me. It's one of his best. And when making that album he brought back the same guy that created the strings for Urban Hymns. The strings on They Don't Own Me are equally as iconic so definitely worth checking out.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time! reminds me of being at university age 18 having fun but also the year my dad died it was the last album he brought me on CD! 1998😢
That album was literally a miracle.
Flawless as you have said
Ashcroft/The Verve have lots of amazing tunes, Drugs Don't Work, Sonnet, History, Out Of My Body, Check The Meaning, This Thing Called Life, etc.
I Just adore this Song 😍😊😍
Oooh the 90s ! I played the album this was on to death; on my Walkman constantly. This and Ocean Colour Scene.
Love your reaction, guys!
Beautiful song. Lots of wonderful memories.
My favourite track of the 90s
Loved the verve, still have this CD 🙆♀️
That was great, guys 👍 So glad you're still listening to what we've got 😉👍
This is a great song, I love the lyrics
From the best album of the 90s.
Ever
A full album reaction or listen to their "Urban Hymns" will not disappoint. Otherwise, the next 2 reactions, off of this album should be "Sonnet" and "The Drugs Don't Work".
Greatest song of all time and probably ever will be
Agree!
As a kid of the 90s, The Verve were and always will be my all-time favorites .It still puzzles me why they weren't as big as Oasis, that I love as well. Urban Hymns is the first album I hve ever bought
saw them in DC when this album dropped.
The Best song they have
'Check the Meaning' by Richard Ashcroft
Great tune and reaction from you both..
Urban Hymns my fave 90's album.. saw Richard Ashcroft at London Palladium last year, was superb.. try Sonnet and Drugs don't work, and Ashcroft's solo work 👍
Great band great track 👌 sonnet from the same album is my personal favourite and worth reacting to.
❤❤ Please listen to; You on my mind in my sleep ', by Richard Ashcroft, the Verve's lead singer from his first solo album. It's beautiful ❤❤❤

Loved the Verve
Love this band ♥️
Try morrissey with every day is like sunday
I think that listening to “The Test” by The Chemical Brothers feat Richard Ashcroft (The Verve vocalist) would be an interesting experience for you guys! It’s a beautiful and epic eletronic breakbeat song (with an amazing and trippy music video).
ahhhhhhhh, Superb!
Thankyou for yet another great reaction guys. I would to see your reaction to A New Decade by the verve - epic!
You're going to get a lot of subs on here praising Richard Ashcroft - and he is a fine songwriter - but he and The Verve were nothing without the band co-founder and lead guitarist Nick McCabe, whose guitar playing alters the fabric of reality itself at times. There's an instrumental version of Lucky Man (a B-side) here - ruclips.net/video/06ef1NSJ4g0/видео.html - where they removed the vocals and you can hear all of Nick's ambient and lead parts, which aren't buried in the single mix. There are the obvious tracks many will recommend too: The Drugs Don't Work or Sonnet - the singles from Urban Hymns, basically. But I highly recommend checking out the McCabe-lead guitar heavy tracks from their back catalogue: This Is Music, Life's An Ocean, The Rolling People, Catching The Butterfly, and She's A Superstar (the 9 minute extended version though, McCabe's tsunami of ethereal noise will make your mind soar and your heart stop before resuscitating it, repeatedly).
You should listen to his solo album. He is an awesome singer.
A song for the lovers..is 💖
Do a video reacting for the following band from the 90`s and this song (the name is correct!):
"Crash Test Dummies - Mmm mmm mmm mmm"
I think you guys (and your audience) are going to be very surprised (in a good way) for this one! Thanks for this one!
Thanks for this - I never heard of this band before. Reminds me a lot of U2
Bono actually named this song as one of the songs he wished he'd written
U2 can’t come close to this band
Drugs don’t work should be the next tune from Them
BEST recommendation for you- "Suite Madame Blue/ America" Must listen to both, they tailgate. Enjoy
You need to listen to "History" one of there best songs!
Love the verve!
