A 2.8 gallon tank! 92 Honda Shadow 1100. Worst tank, 47 mpg, best was 52 mpg. In 92, my dad bought a 92 shadow 1100 from the salvage yard on the day it showed up. Swapped the forks and bar, had it painted, and I was a few years away from my teens back then... but in 93 we rode it from fresno, ca to cody, wy. Good times.
That 48 is beautiful Sean. First one I've ever seen I never knew Harley made a Sportster like that them fat tires give that bike that low wide stands that looks so cool very aggressive looking and that gas tank is gorgeous! Awesome video Sean.

I learned on the iron 1200 and love the bike! Bring it to an empty lot and spend a few hours learning the clutch and brakes and ride as you feel comfortable. Great first bike enjoy!
Yeah! This sporty has style with metallic paint. It still has to go at least 165mi before it's a "wife's bike" if you want to go..pretty much anywhere in a day. City banger for sure.
I've got to admit the best bike I ever owned was my 2010 model 48 1200. I loved that bike and rode it all the time. I always had a smile. Ultimate Sporty for bar hopping/posing ... rock hard limited travel suspension, almost zero cornering ground clearance, very awkward foot forward and leaned forward ergos, over 560 lbs of road hugging weight, almost 50 hp from 1200cc,...AND...awesome paint quality on the tiny fuel tank!! They do look great when they're parked. BTW..am speaking from experience, had one in my stable for some 2 years.
What sportster models should i look at for my first one? I'm buying used, I'm also open to other beginner cruisers but I'm going to ride it multiple days out of the week for many miles. this review was weird to me because he kept listing cons and making them sound like pros.
@@joelglanton6531 Friend, my 2 cents: forget HD as an everyday/beginner bike brand. Really learn how to ride on proper 'standard' bike, that you can use everyday that will be competent, comfortable, reliable, and fuel efficient...a good used, Suzuki SV 650 would be my best recommendation. A good used SV 650 is inexpensive, GREAT for really experiencing a great handling, manageable bike, one that can be reliably used for commuting, and with great economical running costs. Lots of aftermarket upgrades available as well to 'make it your own'. And a FANTASTIC and great sounding V-Twin engine. Once you get used to a 'proper motorcycle', you may not ever want to consider a 'parade' bike cruiser style motorcycle. Again, my 2 cents. Good luck friend.

Get there today and they took 6k off the 48 to get in my price range. I couldn’t help but think God is amazing the 48 was the bike i wanted. Crazy how God works.
It’s okay for you in the USA to have a bunch of bikes, but here in the land of Oz (Australia) Harleys cost more than twice what they do over there, so owning two takes a lot of cash and that’s just the purchase price. Registration here in Victoria runs at about $800 per year per bike and insuring it will set you back another $800-$1000 easy. So count your blessings that you live in the USA where bikes and gas are so much cheaper than here. (Gas costs about $5.45 per US gallon where I live) I have a ‘97 Sporty that I have ridden to Queensland and back a few times, which is about 2100 miles there and back.

I like HD bike a lot. So, I went to visit a local HD dealership and they wanted to charge me a lot over MSRP. So, I eventually bought a 1/12 scale model and I have become a happy owner now ever since.
Had a aniversary edition 1200 sportster that I loved and someone want to give me more money than I paid for it….so I let it go and had this model in my sights when he gave me cash for the old one. In fact, I saved 1k on it as he needed to sell(sucks when that happens for sure.) I’ve been on the 2010 model now for two years and although I’m putting gas in it seems every other day(I’m not) I still am impressed with the fuel injection 1200 and it caught me off guard one of the first few times I got onto it and the back tire broke loose a bit just into second. I swear I’m not lying and it happened. It’s all balls on the low end( a friend said who knows more than I) plus still plenty of power to cruise the highway confidently, love the wide front tire, the ride is smooth and it’s a no BS,overloaded with chrome that takes hours to clean, took the windshield off mine the guy had on it(looked stupid) removed the baffles from the Vance and Hines short shots(I dunno the model, they are short and turn sharp towards the ground) for the Karen in the neighborhood who tried to tell it’s too loud. Solo seat was a aftermarket and added an LED headlamp. I love it. Not sure if I get 100 per tank but it’s still better MPG than the wife’s car. (When I t rains, I’m jealous of her) but this is the sportster that HD should’ve been making years ago.

@Cris and Steven, I do not worry about what people have to say. You two are funny. Really though. HDs are completely overpriced. They come factory feeling like crap and you spend money to make them 'better'. Completely changing the bike that you already paid a ransom for to ride off the dealership lot. For the most part you are paying for an engine that has been proven to run tip top for many moons. I am still enjoying my Forty-eight. Just get out and ride. I don't mind being slow, it is easier to take in the sights. I just sound fast. Ha.
might pick one of these up for my first bike, it's between the indian scout and the 48. i just love how classic these sportsters look and the endless aftermarket parts, but the scout is so clean and mean looking. really tough decision
The scouts a bit too refined power wise, this is a poorly optimized bike in comparison which is what makes it good for a beginner despite being 1000cc+
Sportster are your fun around town to work bikes. Their made for short distances with no frills. Alot of bikes aren't made for long distances. The one's that are can be to big. Also the most you might get is about 200miles maybe probably 175 with the wieght of the bigger bike and fuel. But the greay thing about Harley's is you can make them your own. you can get a 3 gallon tank for any sportster along with diffrent bars seats pipes. Theirs no end to what it can become.

Great bike .. after riding an M8, as nice and refined as it is, the 48 feels raw like HDs of the past ...which is a good thing. Only problem is that there's not much cornering clearance with mid-controls. HD should have done what was needed to keep the air-cooled Sporty in production and add some variants.

I am looking for an Evo Road King now but I would buy this Forty Eight Sportser. I have never own a Sportster but that one looks like it would be fun.
How many miles on your Heritage? How many times has the cam chain tensioners been changed? I have an 02 also, just curious.
The best Sportster was the XR1200, followed closely be the Roadster. The only two with inverted forks and dual disc brakes.
I’ve been wanting the 48 Special for a few years now. Love your videos, you always talk positive about all bikes. I’ve been riding an 88 Vulcan 750 for years, my first bike. I still love it but I’ve always wanted a nice around town Harley and I think the 48 is it. Thanks again for the video, looks like I need more overtime 😀
I've had a Vulcan 750 in my collection for years, great bike with power to spare.
Get one! You won’t regret it.
Just bought my first bike a few weeks ago a 2021 48 love it ride it every weekend and when I have time during the week. Yeah the tiny tank is annoying but I can’t complain about anything else on the bike
Just bought one as my first Harley.. absolutely love it!!
got myself one this week, absolute beast, jakyll and hyde exhaust etc, a real daemon! 😮
Congrats! What year and any future mods? I’m in the market and want to convert to bobber.
2020 model, J&H exhaist, black amd gold paintjob done. the rest is perfect, maybe a sissybar for luggage when out with the brothers, not sure yet
Just bought a 2018 sportster 48 today. Can't wait to ride it soon.
You don’t “drive” a motorcycle.
You “ride” a motorcycle
@Wayne Halliday honestly first person I’ve heard say ‘drive’ a motorcycle stateside.
When you own a bike shop and drive bikes...omg...
Just like... you ‘ride’ a horse, and you ‘drive’ a stagecoach. So, I’m pretty sure you ride a bike, and drive a car.
IMO You drive a bike. When you're in control you drive. When your not you're along for the ride. You don't really control a horse.
@@denimjez so you drive a bicycle? No.
Haha, I was starting to foam at the mouth ready to protest, but within 20 seconds you mentioned the 883R, which I also have, and everything is now okay- I will enjoy the rest of the vid, happy Christmas all riders of whatever you got! ❤️🎄
I agree.. I had a 48 and it handled great! In fact better than my 2016 1200CX Roadster!
This was my first bike, it's an excellent learner machine. I'd like to have one now to highly modify. They would make a nice hot-rod bike.
As a total newbie I was getting the 883 but I think this might be better.

Beginner rider here! Purchased my 2011 Sportster 48 yesterday. A little scared. She's got a Stage 1 kit and Thunderhead exhaust. But she's a beast! I can't wait to learn on her :)
I learned on the iron 1200 and love the bike! Bring it to an empty lot and spend a few hours learning the clutch and brakes and ride as you feel comfortable. Great first bike enjoy!
God bless you !! I love 48s ! Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 👋🏻
Hey, wie wird sich die neue Euro5-Norm auf den "Forty Eight" auswirken?
What did your grandparents do during war?
I use mine for running back n fourth to work. Keeps the miles low on my cars. Perfect bike for that!
Cut down fairing??? Where I come from we call that a fender!
And where I come from we call it a Mudguard . 😁
🤣😂🤣
You’re so cool 😎 I want to be like you when I become cool 😎

A throw back to the sportster in 1948 almost a decade before before the k model the original sportster . Couldn't watch the rest sorry
My 2022 Yamaha MT09 averaged 90miles a tank (driving like a hooligan) it wasn’t that much of an inconvenience
Yeah! This sporty has style with metallic paint. It still has to go at least 165mi before it's a "wife's bike" if you want to go..pretty much anywhere in a day. City banger for sure.
The 72 with mini apes and the 72 sportster are my favorite Harley's for around the city and the Road King for long rides.
i like long rides , for weeks camping and chilling across the uk . im liking this
I ride a 2007 nightster 1200 and I camed it out and put a stage 2 ECU and I love that thing it is such a nice bike
I drive an 2006 883 XLC- C for Custom. 3.4 gallon tank, forward controls. Solves the 100 mile range thing.
Had a 2000 Sportster 1200 for 10 years and loved it!!! Def will get another one! And love the M1 gloves!!
I've got to admit the best bike I ever owned was my 2010 model 48 1200. I loved that bike and rode it all the time. I always had a smile. I traded it for a night train which I hardly rode at all because I swear the damn thing wanted to kill me. I got rid of the nighttrain and haven't replaced the 48 yet, but I will be buying one this year
What state you live in? I might be listing my 48 come May or June
@Cody Kelly idaho. I'm going to be looking for sure by june.
@@jonthomsen7433 ah okay I’m in NH so we’re nowhere near each other. They are plenty of them though so I’m sure you’ll find a good one that you like

Yap he sounds so delusional
Sad the website isn't kept up to date so potential customers can get more details on bikes your selling. 🙄
That's my one gripe with dealerships and their online websites
@@italkgory99 I guess they won't update it until the Nikken is sold. 🤣
I figured they haven’t updating it on purpose. PA has been shut down. No need to list bikes that aren’t gonna move.

I test rode on one yesterday, I absolutely loved it!
I have a 2018 1200 Custom. 2 up seating. 4.5 Gallon Tank. Mid controls, I have a short inseam. Love mine. I get about 200 miles to a tankful. It is a Rare model. As this design was only made in 2018 and 2019. One time I almost popped a Wheelie when shifting into 5th. Looked down at the Speedometer, Said I was at 70. From a standstill.
Oh, I'd complain about the tank. Lol. But I'm used to the 4.5g on my 09 Custom. I also ride it 25min to work daily
Paugcho makes a 4.2 gallon gas tank that I think would look great on a 48. A mustang seat would make it much better for medium distance rides.
The Paugcho fuel tanks look great and are priced fairly, but buyer beware, they take some finishing work before painting. (Voice of experience)
If it did have a 6 speed gear box, it would be worth looking at. Last time i was on a sporter I was looking for that 6 th gear.
I got 2019 Sporty 48 Special and was about 2 weeks till I swapped out the tank for a 4 gal tank. Much better. I have never caved into the Whole "what ya look like thing". if I worried about that, I'd never leave my basement.
I have a 2005 XL883 & with V&H pipes looks great. Absolutely use it as a city dweller to get through traffic in Phnom Penh- among all the 125s it stands out & gets compliments all the time. Great little runner as you say for this purpose (15-20 min, short distance) .. eyeballing a Breakout for the next “tool” :)
Just bought an 03 XL883 with V&H pipes. I love it.
I have a 2005 Sportster 1200 custom with the four and a half gallon tank that I'm fixing to mount a 2016 Sportster 48 front end onto. I ride mine everywhere I've rode mine from Little Rock to Tulsa and back several different times. There is no life like the bike life
Great video and an amazing verse i needed to hear. I was set on a different bike was supposed to purchase yesterday something came up i was bummed. Get there today and they took 6k off the 48 to get in my price range. I couldn’t help but think God is amazing the 48 was the bike i wanted. Crazy how God works.
It’s actually fun an interesting to make frequent stops when you are on a long trip on a motorcycle
Are you guys going out of business we only have six bikes in inventory?
It’s okay for you in the USA to have a bunch of bikes, but here in the land of Oz (Australia) Harleys cost more than twice what they do over there, so owning two takes a lot of cash and that’s just the purchase price.
Registration here in Victoria runs at about $800 per year per bike and insuring it will set you back another $800-$1000 easy.
So count your blessings that you live in the USA where bikes and gas are so much cheaper than here.
(Gas costs about $5.45 per US gallon where I live)
I have a ‘97 Sporty that I have ridden to Queensland and back a few times, which is about 2100 miles there and back.
I have a 2018 1200 48 Harley Davidson Sportster and love it , I'm thinking of selling it for a bigger bike , it's brand new only have under 11.000 miles . It is a bad ass bike ..I bought it December 24 2018 ..
In fact, I saved 1k on it as he needed to sell(sucks when that happens for sure.)
I’ve been on the 2010 model now for two years and although I’m putting gas in it seems every other day(I’m not) I still am impressed with the fuel injection 1200 and it caught me off guard one of the first few times I got onto it and the back tire broke loose a bit just into second.
6:58 literally every 0-60 Shawn attemps XD
I bought a 1979 Honda CB750K for $350. All it needed was a battery. Was it a good deal? It’s fast and I like it.
Sportster is the ONLY thing they ever built that would hang together.
I would have to agree. I've had my sportster for 21 years and it's still running strong and holding together just fine.
Iv got an fxrc that's been rode hard an put away wet an it just wont quite. I do love sportsters an have always wanted one. Looking for one now actually lol
@@Junior-fd8ux Could I heartily recommend the 04 - 06 1200 R Roadster ? Not easy to find now , especially unmolested , but worth the search . Not a Bar Hopper . I can ride mine 400 miles on all kinds of roads and do it again the next day .

@@bobgibb2781 I have an 04 roadster in black with 29k and near mint condition. It's great. beautiful bike.. Besides basic maintenance it's been very solid bike, runs like new.
Your fact needs to be fact checked. Lol. Forty-eight Sportster has a 5sp gearbox.
Also, just like all other HDs, these bikes are highly customizable.
To the haters, who cares, I cannot hear you at 50mph.
probably can't hear them bc you're eating their dust in those shitty overpriced bikes
Harley Davidson has mastered the ability of turning fuel into noise without the side effect of horsepower......AND managed to convince idiots to play dress up and pretend to be tough.
Ha.
@@bayaholic679 Are you trying to us, or yourself, because Im not buying it. Harley has sucked from day 1
@@stevenmeadows6917 you probably ride a yama-harley or suzuki boulevard, jealous you cant afford a real harley :)
might pick one of these up for my first bike, it's between the indian scout and the 48. i just love how classic these sportsters look and the endless aftermarket parts, but the scout is so clean and mean looking. really tough decision
Watching the video to gain some perspective on the Forty-Eight then almost three minutes in a verse pops up. Psalm 68:11 I am hoping to have my first bike sometime next year it's a toss-up between this and an Iron 883. Thanks for the video!
Wind hitting me in the chest is one of the reason I ride, in fact when I want that feeling I'll just slam my upper torso into the nearest wall...good times *cough* Hey, that cough wasnt corona I just have a slight rib bruise ok
Lol
idk... I'd have to say the Sportster Roadster offers waaay more than the 48, what about the OG 1200XLS with factory mild cams and dual plugged heads. Very nice 48 though!!
ayyy its my bike!! 😍😍😍 I put a 3.5 custom tank from lowbrow on mine
The guys at lowbrow are pretty cool, I've bought parts from them, good products.
Thank you for this video. It helps validate and remind me why I bought and love my 48.
I love my 48 special in all black. Fun bike I ride it everyday.
Damn it. I've been aaaallllll set to buy a rebel 1100 and I stumble on the 48
Someone at my job have a yellow 1 with black wire rims looks good & the exhaust sounds amazing cause the parking lot is inside the building makes it sound really loud...
'16 48 with the same blue tank paint job was my 1st bike. Damn thing now has a bad o2 sensor, and none of the switches on the left switch cluster work. and the neutral light is acting up. Freaking Harley
Do you have an updated inventory list anywhere.... I'm looking to buy.
Lately when I check your website’s inventory it only shows a few bikes. Then when you do a video in the warehouse it look full.
Motorcycle riding is about the wind hitting your chest. Well played sir
I've got an 09 nightster with drag bars that looks amazing I'll never get rid of it it's my dream bike
im sure someone has already told u, this is a 5 speed :) I have the 2018 model. love it
Love the 0 to 60 !!
Hate the “ I could have done better “ !!!
Time to to get better !!!
You forgot the Mid-glide front end and forward controls. Huge differences.
4.5 gal tank goes straight on.
Love my 2016 HD48! Great bike!
I have a 2014 Sportster "48", I purchased it new and first thing I did was remove the peanut tank and went to a 4.5 gal. tank which I had painted by Drakes Airbrushing in Huntington Beach, Ca. I switched to Vance and Hines short shot staggered pipes and had a stage 1 download done by my local H/D dealer. It's spooky fast and looks great. It's my 3rd. Sportster since 1964 and I have all of them.
I really enjoy your videos but the Sportster came out in 1957 not 1948. I didn't have time to read all the comments, maybe someone already said that.
The K bike that preceded Sportsters came out in 1952.
