I don’t want to be a backseat gamer on this series so please ignore if you wish to discover these tips on your own.
Many normal attacks can be blocked, and most if not all can be parried. If an attack has a yellow circle, it cannot be blocked and only parried (from my experience the parry window is smaller, but I might just be trash).
Attacks with a red circle cannot be blocked or parried. There are some cases where they can be interrupted by an axe throw or similar, but it’s often better to just evade.
Enemy health bars are as follows:
Green - lower level than you.
Yellow - same level as you
Red - 1 level higher than you
Purple - 2 or more levels higher than you.
The more you upgrade your gear, the higher your level - the health bars will change colour with you, which is a useful way of gaging whether a fight is winnable, or if you’ll be dead in a single hit (this happens often with purple 💀)

Yellow circle attacks can actually be blocked with no damage taken, but it will break posture and take a while to recover
@@Manosid yes you’re absolutely right, what I really meant is they can’t be blocked like normal attacks and will leave you open to attacks (so basically you can’t block them)

A fun bit of irony that makes me chuckle. Kratos, a man full of rage who fights like a berserker, is a Spartan that hails from Greece, a people renowned for their genius tactics and military cunning. It isn’t until he travels to the lands of the Norse, known for Viking berserkers who battle more with might than tactics, that he becomes a more introspective and restrained person. I just like that reversal of expectations.

The less you are hit by enemies in battle, the more praising Kratos is towards his son. At least at the beginning. This is a complete narrative adventure, lots of dialougs, way more then Kratos in the original games talk. Like in all games together. But thats good, cause it is so well written.
The fact that you made me try completing every god of war game too is crazy i never thought i youtuber would make me try completeing every god of war (by never thought a youtuber would make me try completing every god of war i dont mean forcing like watching matis gameplay just made me try completeing every single one) i already finished god of war 1,2,3 ghost of sparta and chains of olympus right now were on the same game. congrats on 40k too :)

This might sound really weird Mati, but that fight you got stuck on and changed the difficulty for, is straight up one of the hardest encounters IN THE ENTIRE GAME. Not even joking. I died more on that fight in GMGOW than any of the bosses other than the super boss (not gonna say the name because spoilers). So don’t feel discouraged about it because that fight in particular and the beginning of the game in general is WILDLY overturned and the game gets much easier afterwards.
Mati, I just wanted to say this this series has arrived at the perfect time for me personally. Like how you said some things are just meant to be, idk. I never got the opportunity to play the games myself, and have been really sick with covid AND flu the past two weeks. I've been burning through the GoW videos and am now caught up! Can't wait to enjoy another playthrough with you, man!

Honestly Give Me A Challenge it’s not that bad as long as you are good with your resource management. You got your Healthstones, Rage and Runic attacks. Usually when there is a tough encounter there are Healthstones on the area you just have to find them. Also you need to be using your rage when your health gets lower cause you get health back for each hit in rage mode. You should also reserve your Runic Attacks for the tough enemies in that particular encounter to delete them as quickly as possible so they don’t give you trouble.
Personally I like Give Me A Challenge, cause it’s always fun to see someone struggle at the beginning, learn from their mistakes, and overcome the challenge. That’s why I like Souls playthroughs. I remember watching you overcome Malenia, Orphan Kos and Gael was so entertaining.
damage sponges are annoying though, just for that I would play normal

Also, this fight at 16 minutes in the video is probably one of the hardest encounters in the entire game on the harder modes. One more abilities and skills are unlocked the game actually gets way easier. Other than Valkyrie bosses of course

BRO, I died SO MUCH in the frozen Draugr room at 14:02 when I played it in Give Me God of War LOL
That was me literally the first fight of the entire game
It took me FOREVER to beat the 100 enemies trial in muspelheim on give me god of war difficulty. Other than a couple team ninja or fromsoft bosses, I’ve never struggled so hard in a combat section. Hell I had an easier time even on the Valkyrie queen lol.

About trust, Kratos wasn't exactly saying he doesn't trust her at all, he was just saying that Atreus is too easily trusting. He also gained her respect when she did not spill his secret.
I am glad that you are giving Atreus some upgrades. Maybe now he is not that useful but trust me, fully upgraded Atreus with his skills will be really a meanece and I WAS PLAYING ON GOD OF WAR DIFFICULTY(The highest one) and boy was saving my life lot's of time.

Hey Mati! Pro tip from a GOW enthusiast: Every time your in battle, mash square as much as you can to get used to always having Atreus firing arrows. And I would suggest leveling up Atreus and his bow as soon as possible. It really comes in handy, especially later in the game... I'm sure others will agree :)

Very nice episode =D Your light switches at 52:44 (timestamp direktly on the change, so have to go back 10 secs to see it) and you notice it at 1:30:32 I had hoped it would change more often to show a pattern, but this way the ghost theory is still strong. Lets watch out for more paranormal activity in the background in upcoming videos. Maybe it´s the ghost of Sparta.

Many, many congratulations for the 40K, Mati. 🎉 Slowly and steady your channel will grow even more. The time and effort is starting to show how much we love you. Kratos is slowly getting a soft spot for Atreus, definitely. In time I believe, he will show more affection. That lady might be a witch, but she has great taste for house decor and made it comfortable and cozy. Something tells me we haven't seen the last of her yet, since Atreus looks like he likes her.

There's another neat little detail that I really liked about this game, aside from the one continuous shot, and that only people from other countries got to see, and that's the credits at the beginning of the game, the credits change if you're playing the dubbed version of the game, they show the names of their respective voice actor. Is a really cool detail, and is nice to see all the different voice actors in other countries being recognized this way.
Been watching Mati for 2 maybe 3 months and it's been a great time, I've been putting on the Fromsoft Playlist when I go to sleep, and I still cannot get enough of his content. Hope he plays Dantes Inferno after GoW, love ya Mati and thanks a ton for the vids!

That mob is one of the most challenging in the game imo. I struggled hard even on 2nd playthrough on give me a challenge. Its worth dabbling with the difficulty if it gets too easy

i replayed this game about 6 times, its amazing to see these moments as you live them for the first time. this has one of the hardest bosses you can fight in any game, hopefully we get to see your blades meet!

And in my opinion, I like watching the easier difficulty. The game flows much better when basic mobs take 45 seconds intead of 3 minutes to take down!
I really hope you are able to take this game in as you play. When diolauge is happening give space for all the words and feels. This game really is art and so very relatable on many levels. Have fun!

I truly don't understand how fans dislike Atreus. He's clearly the main character even if you don't play as him, and he adds so much depth and character to Kratos. This is a journey of both of them and it's so beautiful

It is designed to be a child. Curious, impertinent, temperamental, vain and haughty when he discovers his identity. It seems logical to me that there are people who find it annoying. That's not bad for the game though.
What is bad for the game is how incredibly artificial the npc feels during gameplay. He always teleports when out of sight and is untouchable while you fight. It's justo one more skill.

That draugr mob is one of the hardest fights in the entire game on higher difficulties, there's just so many enemies and you have so little health there's zero room for error.
You need to be perfect for the entire fight, and they're so spongey it just lasts forever.
Hey Mati here is a combat tip: Try to throw the axe at the Draugr legs. It will make them fall and it will be easier for you to combo them. Another important tip is that if you pin an enemy into a wall or a tree or something like that with the heavy axe throw it will kill them instantly. Remember that it doesn’t work in all the walls and you must launch the enemy into the air first then pin them into the wall. Hope this helps;)

the important thing to note about the enemies who are stronger than you is that they don't become stunned as easily. this is important because you can't continue to hit them with your combos. you need to be more defensive & be aware of their attack patterns. when they're weaker, each hit lets you continue on with your combos because they do not attack while being hit.
when you get more proficient with all the mechanics & gain more abilities, you might try the higher difficulty levels, but at this point, it might be too difficult.
i'm sure there are people who managed, but imo, the higher difficulty levels are for new game plus or after you become acclimated to all the mechanics.

I platinum’d GoW 2018 and GoW Ragnarok. Both are phenomenal. Been with this channel since Elden ring and loving the growth. Maybe after the GoW series, maybe when you’re done with this you can do a Fallout 4 survival play through. The show was great and they are updating to current gen on the 24th I believe.

I have a ghost in my room too. Except mine doesn't simply change my lights. It yeets my phone, controller, and remotes onto the floor. Much more expensive. I swear, these things have fallen on the floor more in this house in the last 3 months than I've ever dropped anything in my entire life.

Just a few tips to make your journey more comforting
1) You'll hear a particular sound when a Odin Raven is nearbye.
2) Revenants( Poison witch) get stunned by arrows and only then you can attack them after they are hit by an arrow!!
3) Revenants poison can be blocked using your shield 🫂

And personally I enjoy the balanced experience. It’s fun to watch some struggle but when the story is this good I like to give it the spotlight.
The yellow circle on incoming attacks are parryable, you have to get it on the dot like you said :). Red circles however, you either have to dodge it OR there are some where you can interrupt enemies by throwing your axe at them! It’s all your choice.
btw any move that is not yellow or red circle are parryable, such as the Revenants gas move thing that goes toward you on the floor.

36:36 - I think you cut it from the video, Mati, but did you notice the positioning of the last enemy? They put it behind a wall, so you have to move to a specific spot in order to get the axe throw angle needed to kill it. This moves you into the exact position the game needs you to be in for the cutscene.
Genius subtle game design. Sets everything up and keeps it in one shot, without cuts and awkward camera angles.

I’m actually happy that you changed the difficulty. I’m a veteran GOW fan and I played this in normal, I think it’s the best way to enjoy this game. Otherwise enemies feel too spongy and it can take away a bit of the “cinematic touch” from the experience.

I haven't finished the video yet, but I'm seeing that you're having a little trouble figuring out what you can and can't parry with the shield so I'm just going to leave a little advice here.
Any attack without an indicator can be blocked or parried. If the attack has a yellow indicator they need to be parried or you will be knocked off balance, also it is worth noting that enemy size doesn't matter. Attacks with a red indicator need to be dodged, there is no blocking or parrying these attacks you will be knocked on your ass every time you do anything other than dodge. I hope this helps!
