    Very nice power box, well designed. As a Ryobi user, I built a Ryobi 4-battery box similar to yours. I added an outlet coming off the 18v before the buck inverter to give access to the full 18v. I also added a powerpole plug-in (pp30) for each voltage level to give a way to connection other than the cigar outlet. the battery gauges are a nice addition. You do have room to add a small (200w?) inverter. I found that to be useful now and then. I have several videos about tool battery operated units, including the power box, if interested. You're off to a great start in RUclips. 3 great videos in a row. Welcome to the world of YT creators.

      Thanks! I kept this simple it did its job though. I have a 200w inverter still in the box I never used. Wasn't sure if I wanted to add that or another row of batteries. Decisions, decisions 😄

      exact same way, just a different battery holder and maybe a different shape for the box if they're wider or longer batteries. I'm surprised more people aren't doing this since everyone owns tool batteries and they store a ton of energy

    the makita batteries don't have bms for low voltage protection. I wonder if you could add in a relay on the battery source to shut off below 15v so the battery won't get destroyed.

    • @TechNTorque
      @TechNTorque  Год назад

      The circuit wouldn't be too difficult to make. My 5aH batteries seem to turn themselves off at low voltage. I haven't fully tested that or tried any other lower capacity batteries. 4 batteries seems to last a long time. Definitely worth making a 2nd video I think. Great idea!

    • @uhjyuff2095
      @uhjyuff2095 Год назад

      @@TechNTorque Yeah, I saw a video where someone took a cheapo 5s 20amp bms and connect resistors across all the balance leads so the end result is the discharge mosfets would cut power at 15v. You get all the features with the bms except for cell level monitoring.

    • @TechNTorque
      @TechNTorque  Год назад +1

      Not directly. The power I'm using from the solar controller will turn itself off at low voltage, and the power inverter has a built in low voltage shut off. Should be enough to cover my needs 🙂

      The outlet comes with a gasket that seems to work pretty well. Not sure I'll ever be stuck in the rain with it but eventually if I add an inverter or another row of batteries I'll completely seal it so I never have to worry about it.

    Could you make a 2.0 box and video step by step making it plz.
    With capacity for
    *8 batteries,with low voltage cut of protection.
    *Inverter 2500w with 2 outlets on the side of the box and switch to go between 12v,may as well add a few usb outlets a type c and a.
    *Solar charging in the box 450w limit.
    Just an anderson connector on the outside.
    N id buy one postage would suck (im in Australia) so would need a 240v inverter.

    • @TechNTorque
      @TechNTorque  11 месяцев назад

      You'd need a much bigger case for a true 2500 watt inverter. Even then 8 batteries couldn't support it for more than a minute or two. Would definitely be a waste of efficiency at lower wattage levels

      600w minimum.

  • @turbovw62rag
    @turbovw62rag 11 месяцев назад

    awesome setup im trying to build one similar, are you worried about killing battery packs? with no low voltage cutoff protection on them? seems that if one pack falls below 2.5v it could keep draining it and damage it.

    • @TechNTorque
      @TechNTorque  11 месяцев назад +1

      With the diodes it'll pull from the pack with the most voltage first until the voltage is balanced between them all. The individual cells hang out around 3.7v the longest, so it doesn't draw from the highest voltage pack for very long. I'm making another version with lvco. Should have it ready after new years.

      @MrRChitty you might be able to find more powerful adjustable buck converters too. Just make sure the input and output are in the range you need. I wouldn't buy a special 18v inverter, I like to be able to remove it and used for something else as needed.
