    And here is my own culture shock which happened over 10 years ago. I walk into Sainsbury's wanting to buy 'toothpick', and I'm walking aimlessly up and down the whole aisle looking for toothpick. I'm like do these people not use toothpick. Ok I decided to ask a member of staff. Politely I asked please whereabouts do you have toothpick. The person looked at me, apologised and said they don't stock toothpick. The thing baffled me, and I decided to keep looking around and voila I found toothpick. I was a bit upset why this person told me they don't stock toothpick. So off I went - I grabbed the toothpick off the shelf and went to look for the person that told me they didn't have toothpick, found her and showed her and said I found the toothpick. And she said 'oh you mean cocktail sticks'. Nne I just said thank you and went and paid for my toothpick. A story I will never forget😂. I have loaaads of such stories and they just crack me up anytime I remember them. Another one is how upset I used to get when the doctors at the GPs refuse to give antibiotics when the kids get a cold or cough. It was a hard one for me but later I understood the reason which is very valid. Even some Cough syrup you can't buy over the counter. It actually made me find natural ways to deal with coughs and colds. I haven't bought cough syrup in over 10 years and I have children who often get colds and coughs. My friends say I'm quarter to becoming a native doctor😂😂. Never mind them, they're always popping round to collect medicine😂😅

      @@onyinyeokechukwu4074 I find using the same amount of lime (squeezed out) with the same amount of honey works well, and if you have had it at home for like two to three weeks, its very potent.

    • @uzomaochulor5313
      @uzomaochulor5313 6 месяцев назад

      @@onyinyeokechukwu4074 you are right, antibiotics don't work for most coughs because most coughs are viral and antibiotics are not meant for viral infections. Incessant use of antibiotics will just make the user to become antibiotic resistant and when the antibiotic is now needed for real,it won't work and that is not a good place to be ok for home made cough syrup I use honey and a squeeze of lemon mixed with just a little warm water. Sometimes I squeeze the lemon and keep ib the fridge to keep it handy and when needed I just add a squeeze of honey and a drop of warm water please note that children under the age of 1 year are advised not to eat honey. I have taken this my cough mixture to a new level😂 and this is my new recipe and when I say it works like magic believe me it does. I have it all made up and sitting on my kitchen counter. At the first sign of any cough, oya come and take a spoon. This one I just recently discovered and it has earned me my native doctor status 😢😂. Ingredients are garlic, ginger, rosemary, oregano, red onions, raw organic honey (I don't mean honey from tesco or asda😂). I mean raw pure undiluted honey. I got the one I used from Holland and Barratt, it is called MANUKA honey. All these ingredients should be used whole ie do not blend any, you can cut the onions though and the fresh garlic, fresh ginger, fresh rosemary leaves,fresh oregano leaves can be chopped but not blended. Combine everything in a jar and douse with honey, enough honey . That is your home made cough syrup all done. You don't need to refrigerate it. It can stay outside the fridge. The longer it stays the more medicinal it becomes it can last up to one year. It's magical. Please note that all the ingredients are all fresh, nothing processed goes into the syrup. I hope it helps. The first day I made this I was going from tesco to asda to Morriston looking for fresh oregano leaves, I eventually found it in Sainsbury's. This year I am growing my own Oregano leaves in my garden 😂

    My shock in the US when I migrated donkey years ago was that eggs were kept in the fridge, schools didn't wear uniforms, and folks ate cereal with cold milk instead of hot milk! Not to mention pronunciation and spelling of words. For instance favourite spelled favorite and I laughed at how Tissue was pronounced. 🤣🤣🤣 Then I had to get used to thinking in terms of pounds and miles instead of Kilograms and Kilometers. I had to get used to Fahrenheit instead of Celsius and the car steering being on the left and driving on the right hand side of the road instead of the the steering on the right and driving on the left. Also how the date is written with the month first instead of the day, My brain was very tired.

    Hello Adaeze, yes most internal doors have locks in the UK. It's actually a regulation. It actually borders on health and safety. The only time internal doors are allowed to have locks on them is if the house is being used as a HMO (house of multiple occupation). Yes again raising the handle of a door up before you lock with the key is normal😂. Yes please keep an eye on your mails especially the ones that arrive in brown envelope. If you ignore others, please don't ignore mails that come in brown envelope.😂. And great job acclamatizing to UK😂

Also people really be nice and friendly to you if they believe if you have a career or relationship other than that you are no good to them. UK has deteriorated over the years. When the european and most migrants were here, the brits were more open minded. Now the hate and negavity and depression as spiralled out of the control. Been here 23 years I know a thing or two.

    Interesting to see UK thru the eyes of a newcomer. Internal locks are only used for shared accommodation not single family homes. The entrance locks that you lift up are newer locks and offer better security. Good you’ve discovered Asda for uniforms. You could have returned the branded blazer you had ordered. The £1 is just fundraising for extra things for the school and the children enjoy the non-uniform day. Your baby can go to private nurseries but they can be quite pricey. You can unsubscribe to some of the mails you are receiving and also return the mails for the previous occupier with ‘No longer at this address’ to the PO to reduce them coming 👏🏾👍🏾

    So in the Uk they have a lot of charities that they donate to so they celebrate things like Red Nose Day, children in need, world book day. The money the school collects is then donated to these charities. If your daughter turns 4 before late September which is Autumn then she will be in reception but if she was born late September going then she will start school when she turn 5. All children starts school between 4 and 5 it’s compulsory that they go to primary school otherwise the UK government will be on your case so your local council will write to you and tell you when to start applying.

You dont need to be intermingling with them to catch stray bullet. This is me speaking for experience in church settings. And I keep to myself but the way some people behave, it makes me never want to intermingle. Then I get treated better when they find out Im not Nigerian which is strange.

    If when you were in Nigeria and didn’t have a car, wouldn’t you walk everywhere. Well Europe is like that, if you don’t have a car you’ll walk everywhere. I don’t think that should be a culture shock. Even if you are in the US, you don’t have a car you just have to walk to get public transportation.

    • @oreoluwaoyadiran
      @oreoluwaoyadiran Месяц назад

      You can easily enter public transport in Nigeria (of course it is rough and there is traffic), they don’t have certain times unlike the UK when they come to the bus stop

    I just came across your channel, I love this video and I'm gonna check out more. I'm a fellow Igbo girl but I grew up here so it's interesting to hear your perspective.
    I just wanted to mention that the glare in your glasses distracted me a little. Maybe you could take them off or get an anti glare coating on them. Just a suggestion though 💗

    Most of the culture shock are not different from Canada, Hmmnnn they are not genuinely nice ooo just trust those lovely smiles at your own risk😂. For the door lock, you can get a lock at the store and fix to your room. That’s what we did, I don’t have strength to explain when my children barged into the room😂 you will remove it when you are moving out of the house.

    Some blacks could be Jamaicans
    Sometimes you will almost think almost all blacks are Nigerians until they tell you where they are from.
    Although people from other African countries kinda sound different when they talk you just know this person is not Nigerian.
