Heading Home this week (pun intended). I'm driving my 22 Sprinter Sanctuary through Phoenix, so I'll definitely be buying one of these from you. And I'll give the self-install a shot if you guys are too busy. I got all the tools and it seems pretty straightforward. How could I possibly screw this up. 😅 I'm sure you guys have seen it all.
I need one of these and I’ve been contemplating for months now. I live in Phoenix and I will be heading to Mesa to Owl HQ and maybe I will just have to bite the bullet and pick one up. I also will be picking up a pedal control 2.0 for my Revel because I’ve almost got caught out during a left hand turn into traffic and it was a pucker moment. If I had the cash I’d most definitely get the Renntech power upgrade but it’s either the ladder/tire carrier and Pedal Control 2.0 or the Renntech power upgrade. So many choices, not enough cashola…
Correct me if I'm wrong, but regardless of the hinge type, the van can be broken into by simply removing the four exposed bolts holding the door. Is this a security issue?
We invented these type of carriers and of course we tested “no drill” solutions years ago. They fail. Additionally “no drill” involves a bunch of grinding and cutting of the weather stripping on the door. Much more work and modification to the van
@@johnwillenborg Thanks. Waiting (im)patiently for Owl to perfect a tire carrier for the Transit. Look to the future, Transit is taking over from Sprinter. Ha!
As far as we can tell that van has a standard backend and therefore our parts will work. If you want to shoot a pic of your van's backend to our support team they can be more definitive. support@owlvans.com
Couple things... Typically you wanna drill through metal slow and deliberately, let the bit remove the metal, not try and melt it. You can heat it up to where it becomes work harden and also damage your drill bit. But more importantly, I love your videos apart from ONE thing... You are an attractive guy no doubt, but I don't ever feel you are talking to your viewers, because you never look at "us" and constantly looking at the video feed (naturally this is what a camera man would do and you appear to do the recording on your own) but it just seems like you are constantly watching yourself and worried about your appearance which seems very vain, shallow, and therefore makes your videos lack any type of viewer inclusion. I understand you need to check that everything you're doing and showing is in frame, but it's like being on a video call with a chick and you can clearly tell she isn't looking at the video feed of the recipient but is watching herself instead. We are all guilty of this I'm sure to some extent, but I'm pretty sure you have never looked at the camera lens like you are actually talking to anyone watching rather than checking yourself out presumably. It's just really distracting. And it makes you seem more concerned with your appearance than what you are trying to show us. You didn't move out of frame, the camera is stationary, you're in frame I promise lol. Appreciate the content man, stay beautiful 😂
Wow, there is a lot to unpack here. Thank you for the positive comments on the video. Believe me, I am not checking the video for how I look. I am simply looking at the phone as a whole since it is recording. While filming, I do try to make sure that what I am talking about is in frame, so I am actually not looking at myself. Second, I forget that the camera on the front side of the phone is off on the edge. It is unnatural to look at the edge of the phone instead of the center. I usually don't even know if the lens is on the right or the left. The right answer is to have someone else film but I hate to take people away from their jobs, and when it is just me and the viewer, I feel it's more personal. In the end, I want to make sure that the content of the videos is highlighted and I really couldn't care less what I look like on film.
I didn't think you were actually checking yourself out, I'm sorry if I came off brash or dickish. My intent was constructive criticism, and I perhaps am distracted by it more so due to recently moving out of state while my girlfriend is tied down running her own business, so past 7 months being long distance relationship = lots of video calls. I do apologize if I came off accusatory, I should have been more clear it only appeared that way on the viewer side. And I am a bit of a perfectionist nut, "nobody is going to meet my standards may as well do it all myself" type so I understand having to do it all by yourself. On a different note, I recently purchased a 2015 FREIGHTLINER 2500 Sprinter (only 36k miles!) and while not solely for van life (my new company vehicle actually) I do really enjoy the videos as I plan on upgrading with as many quality of life amenities as possible so it will serve this purpose better when I use it to travel/adventure. This is maybe one of three times I've ever commented on a RUclips video. Very satisfying seeing the creator reply so promptly. I'll definitely be ordering some parts from OWL if they are available for my year van!
No worries, I wasn’t bothered by it. More just trying to explain how o shoot the videos. I never knew it appeared that way so I can certainly work on it
You're making me spend money, dang it!

Come stop by, we would love to show you around
@@owloffroad I will be heading down there tomorrow!
Threaded rod looks easy to cut. Any ideas to reinforce, or a better lock that makes it harder to cut!
If someone brings tools to cut locks etc they are getting what they want

The top bolt is too large to pass through the hinge therefore it cannot be removed without the door open
Waiting for the Transit version. What do you think of the Aluminess no-drill mount?

Thanks Bill, we are moving to a new facility then we go into production
what is the torque setting for the bolts on the hinge side?
25lbs
Do you have a template for a Ford American Patriot MD2?

No tabs on my hoop 4 my box😢 (ordered them together)
me too - so no option to mount a box there instead of a tire
