That is why people question the reaction to her country music. Let the song speak for itself and climb the charts, or stall in place. To say out the gate it doesn't belong though is questionable. I'm not a Beyonce fan ( listen occasionally but not a stan) and even I can see this.

Nobody said there aren’t already established Black country artists, but Beyonce using her platform to highlight the history of the genre is significant. And as Alyssa even highlighted, her delving into the genre has increased visibility for OTHER Black artists, particularly Black female country artists. I can’t wait to see who she worked with for this album!

Yes and Beyonce is part Lousiana Creole and the song back in 2016 with The Chicks was not a full on country song it also included Zydeco which is creole music. So if anything she is more than eligible to make country music! People need to do more research about her and creole music and realize that it is part of country music.

The Pointer Sisters were a black female group who did it all in the 70’s and the 80’s. They are the only black female group to have won a country Grammy for their country song “Fairytale”. They also recorded classic rock, jazz, pop and R&B. Come on Whoopi… you were on their special Up All Night in the 80’s. Have Ruth on the view and maybe in Sister Act in the bass section? She’s the last surviving sister and is phenomenal!!

The Black group The Pointer Sisters won a Grammy for writing a Country song back in the 1970's "Yes, We Can Can." Charley Pride was the biggest Black Country star in the 1970's. He had many number #1 Country Songs. Recently, Darius Rucker crossed over to Country as a solo artist from Hootie & the Blowfish.
Charlie Pride was one of the most followed In Ireland with Johnny cash and our own Ireland country music singer big Tom they were and still are the big three still played on radio

As a Texan myself, I never really was a big fan of the country music genre. However, since Beyonce is a fellow Texan who was able to break through those limitations and now find newly acclaimed success within this musical genre, then congrats to her! We Texans are winners indeed!

Beyonce got so much backlash from her CMA performance that they removed it from the internet even though it was their highest viewed video and highest rated award show BECAUSE of her. People in the audience have spoken about the outlandish and racist remarks they heard being said about Beyonce while she was on that stage.

I don’t know why genre bending in music is such a big deal. Charley Pride and Darius Rucker have been making country music for decades. Tim McGraw once duetted with Nelly and hit the Black chart. Barry Manilow released a jazz album in the 1980’s. Taylor Swift has moved from Country to Pop and has done quite well. Dolly Parton rocked out. Even Pat Boone released a heavy metal album during his career. Just accept the music as it is. Artists like to expand their repertoires and try different styles. It doesn’t mean they are abandoning or betraying their fan base. It’s simply a matter of reaching beyond and recording what they feel. In the case of Beyoncé, she is talented enough to be a success even if she sang the phone book! Embrace her or don’t buy the product. Criticizing her choice should not be an option.
Beyoncé is just looking for hit songs. Trust and believe. Financial success is her primary motivation.

I knew who Charlie Pride was because he was the only well known one at the time. In the 80's it was Cleve Francis. I remember singing to Conway Twitty, Oakridge Boys, Barbara Mandrell, Glen Campbell, Larry Gatlin & Gatlin Brothers, George straits, Trisha Yearwood, Brooks & Dunn etc...Then there was Darius Rucker from Hootie & Blowfish. Then came Mickey Guyton, Jimmie Allen, Kane Brown, Britney Spencer & Willie Jones etc.. Music is universal.Universal. It's funny when Taylor did the change up from country to pop, no one expressed such outrage or anger but it just seem tp me that whenever a black person enters a space where others think they shouldn't be for whatever reason,it becomes an issue. It's the same issues in Nascar.

It's so American though, to actively ignore the fabric of its foundation, racism.
Maybe I'm crazy but lately for months now Sunny and Whoopi seem to have some low-key drama popping up these days. You can just see the irritation they have with one another on the screen and I really think it's because Whoopi is just not radical enough for sunny these days.
Sometimes Whoopi cuts off Sunny’s points. As a moderator, there has to be a balance between being heard and letting others be heard.
I think it's difficult for Sunny because she wants to show Whoopi the respect she deserves as her elder and moderator but Whoopi is so woefully ill prepared for the topics while Sunny does a lot of homework on the topics before coming on air, causing Sunny to have to walk a tight rope of both delivering the information while not making Whoopi look ignorant. It's a balance she tries to maintain, but doesn't always get right, which then frustrates Whoopi.

It is a little annoying that beyoncé can just record one country album and now she's a country star. I think it's unfair to black country artists who try but unfortunately are not a media construct like her and aren't able to get that kind of recognition. Kind of reminds me of when Madonna just randomly decided to put out a country album.

Why not call out the country music industry then? What are they doing as an industry to promote and help upcoming black artists in their genre? Are they giving radio airtime to black artists? Are bona fide country artists giving them opportunities to be introduced to their audiences?
Dr. Dre signed Eninem - initial resistance, yes until people heard the music. Motown signed Teena Marie - there’s not a family reunion that doesn’t have Square Biz on the playlist. And let’s not forget Bobby Caldwell, What You Won’t Do for Love
When the Apollo theater tribute took place in 85, there were 2 white artists that performed - George Michael age 21 (personally requested by Stevie Wonder) and Boy George in an arena that’s known for being hallowed ground for black performers. After the program aired, George Michael said that their album sales increased and they gained valuable radio time on black stations.
Robin Thicke used to be Mary J Blige’s opening act. That’s recognizing talent and giving artists exposure to an audience that they might not have access to.
I think it’s unfair to say that she’s taking someone’s opportunity away from them. Didn’t she earn her success?
Ray Charles recorded several country albums and is in the Country Hall of Fame, but I doubt that most people would refer to him to a country singer right off the bat. And he was already a R&B, Blues legend when the first album came out.
Hopefully this will help black country artists in the long run. There’s no hard and fast rule stating that there’s only room for one star.
Yall forget… Beyonce is as big as she is 27 years later is because she has lots of loyal fans! She can do any genre of music and her Fans trust that she’ll keep them Entertained because that’s the type of person she is!
There are MANY black country stars that Sunny should take a listen to: KANE BROWN, JIMMIE ALLEN, ALLISON RUSSELL, AMYTHYST KIAH, BRITTNEY SPENCER, SHY CARTER, BRELAND, THE WAR AND TREATY, MICKEY GUYTON, BLANCO BROWN, WILLIE JONES, YOLA just to name a few. BUT, where are the ASIAN country stars?
The Asian country stars better step up and represent.
Why suggest what artists Sunny or any other host should listen to. She might know the names of black country music artists but not be a fan like she is of hip-hop music.

I think most people are missing the point. I believe that what Beyoncé is showing is that no matter your race, culture, skin tone or believes, if you are talented and have the desire, you can do whatever art you want. Beyoncé can do country as anyone could do.
Like Sarah said, Country is a mixing pot of cultures. Not just white, not just black.
It is not about reclaiming country music to black people. It´s reclaiming it to everyone.
That is the point. And an artist of Beyoncé caliber has certainly earned the right!!!!

Black peoples started country music. So the people saying Beyoncé is not country or the song is not country, let’s not forget where country music originated from! And besides, it does not matter where is originated from, black, white, blue or purple, anybody can sing a song. A black person can sing a country song especially because it started with black people, white people can, Asian person can, Puerto Rican people can etc, it’s a song, why does it matter if Beyoncé puts out a country song because sorry to burst your bubble, it is a country song! Why does it bother some of you so much that Beyonce puts a country song out?

I would just disagree that there ARE black country artists out there who were before beyonce, so no she is not "re-claiming the genre". She is just entering it and doing it FOR her black fans instead of just trying to get approval from the existing white ones.
Bey is doing it for her financial success, nothing else...the song is trash and she is overrated as a solo artist....I'll go to the Destiny Child concert though any day if that was to happen.

I grew up on country music but there was also soul r&b rap blues jazz gospel and blue grass people should really take time to listen to all music I promise you will find something you will like in all
