    The PC version is much better technically. When I was playing this game on PC there were no problems with framerate or character animations, everything was running smoothly. Also the draw distance was much longer so there were no objects appearing in front of me. The quality of textures was much higher and there were no missing ones. Beside that PC version has sound effect when you hit dr Hypno during boss fight.

      Wow, when there's all these things that are better in the PC version, it makes the PS2 version seem unfinished by comparison doesn't it!

    I'm actually on a facebook group with ITE devs, and a few yrs ago, I posted a pic of a minigame saying it was super hard, and not in a good way, and some guy replied that "kids from this generation aren't used to play hard games from THEIR gen" or something like that, which makes me feel like they always saw lazy/shitty design as justified.

      Kinda sad that after the TV show era, Hugo started slowly dying, this franchise deserved way better

    • @PixelPursuit
      @PixelPursuit  4 года назад +1

      It's kinda strange how there's a group out there with a lot of ITE developers considering they've not been an active company for so long. It's good they're still in contact with each other though I suppose! Weird how they would get defensive about something like that... It's not like the Hugo games are hard like a lot of NES games are, they're just hard because they're unfair and poorly designed like you say... So I suppose technically they are hard like a lot of NES games, but that's not a good thing!
      I agree with you though that the franchise deserved better and it had so many chances to redeem itself too, but it failed every single time.

      ITE's entire history is spamming low quality games out by the dozens, and the company dying when consumers got higher quality standards for videogames. The 90's model of making a fame in 5 months on a low budget just doesn't work in the 2000's.

    This game proves to how much of a shovelware franchise Hugo feels like.
    Lemoon Twist uses the same engine as the Mr.Bean game as well and it's sound effects and layout. Coyote Console also made Home Alone game, one of the worst games on PS2. So this game is almost on par with Blast Entertainment games (people behind Me.Bean, Jumanji, Home Alone etc.) who is known for being shit at making games.
    This game (as well as all Hugo platformer games) are more boring than Spyro Enter the dragonfly despise being rushed

      Woah, this is quite a big rabbit hole isn't it. I had no idea Coyote Console were associated with Blast Entertainment. It seems they've made a few games with Blast Entertainment and I bet they're all rubbish.
      I should probably play Enter the Dragonfly, I've never actually played any of the PS2 era Spyro games...

    Ever heard of Eko Software? They made some budget PS2 games. And, for some reason, all three had the exact same main menu with plain white text.
    Gift, Woody Woodpecker: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park and Kaan: Barbarian's Blade. All 3 are 3D platformers.
    I think reviews of these three games could be quite entertaining. Especially since there aren't any on RUclips yet. Well, Gift has one brief review. But the other two? Nope. They seem forgotten.

    • @PixelPursuit
      @PixelPursuit  3 года назад

      No I've never heard of them actually! Oh god I've just looked at some gameplay and they basically look like exactly the same game but just with a different main character haha! That might be something I could look into doing in the future, it's been a while since I've covered any obscure games like that.

    • @ditheremotion
      @ditheremotion 3 года назад

      I love Gift to be honest, it's not amazing but it's a fine, if a bit too short, 3D puzzle platformer.
      Compared to any of the Hugo games it's a masterpiece, it's a lot more original and controls, looks and sounds way better than any of the Hugo games, in fact, it was praised back in the day because of the quality of the graphics.
      The only really bad thing is that the framerate in the PS2 port is very bad, but at least it has an extra level (though it's not that great either).
      If you are gonna play the game you should play the PC version, it's not super difficult to get running on new machines, has better framerate and you can increase the resolution and graphics quality.

It was a 2d game with skiing sections it was just terrible and I ended up returning it, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a Hugo ps2 game and actually looks pretty fun and I like that you can jump in the ball thing I may have to track this down as I love 3D platformers, very hyped for crash 4 on October 2nd!!!!

      Haha, was the Hugo game you got on the PS1 an actual Hugo the Troll game? I don't remember any of the PS1 games having skiing sections! Maybe they did though, it's been a while...
      Yeah it turns out there's a ton of Hugo games on the PS2... And I've reviewed them all! This one is probably the best out of the PS2 ones though, aspects of it actually feel somewhat competently made whereas some of the others are bad in just about every single way. Me too! I can't wait to see what happens in Crash 4, it's going to be awesome!

      Pixel Pursuit hi fellow Rob! yeah the game was definitely a Hugo troll game on the ps1 and I only played one level and I thought this is terrible! I think maybe it could have been the sledding game but maybe they changed it to a third person view instead of 2d, of all the game I’ve played so far Hugo and bubsy 3D are the two worst games I’ve played. I’ve been playing crash bandicoot games since the mid 90’s on the ps1 and I think crash 4 looks like the classic crash style with fun new abilities and playable characters, can’t wait!!!

    • @PixelPursuit
      @PixelPursuit  4 года назад +1

      Hello! :D
      Some of the later Hugo PS1 games mixed the 2D and 3D perspectives so it probably was one of those! In terms of games that have actually been published to mainstream consoles of their eras, yeah Hugo 2 and Bubsy 3D are probably the worst games I've ever played too. It makes you wonder if there's worse out there...
      Same with me! I've always loved the Crash games since first playing them and I still do to this day. Yeah I love that they're going back to the Naughty Dog style of gameplay and it gives me a lot of hope that we'll see even more games from Crash in the future too!

  • @Morshu_DarkSouls
    @Morshu_DarkSouls 5 лет назад +3

    It's just bad, that's pretty much all you can say about this game. This really just feels like another bad Crash clone like you pointed out, though some of your comparisons were reaching for it a bit.
    I mean what else can a fish do to hurt you than jump out of the water? Shoot you with a tommy gun? I doubt Crash was the only or the first game to use warthogs as enemies. And the only thing connecting lemons and wumpa fruit is that they're both fruit, so they're not really similar at all.
    Speaking of lemons, is it ever even explained why Hugo is collecting them? I mean the name makes it sound like the lemons are a big deal, but they really have no impact on the game at all.

    • @PixelPursuit
      @PixelPursuit  5 лет назад

      Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe some of my comparisons were reaching slightly, but backed up with the other things that have obviously been copied, I think it's not too much of a stretch. I mean, the fish could just swim in the water and hurt you if you fall in, or make it so you have to time your jump so the fish isn't near you and then quickly jump out of the water. Or just make the animation different as it's jumping out of the water. If the fish jumped out of the water and shot you with a tommy gun, that would have been amazing to be honest haha! I mean, maybe Crash isn't the only game to feature warthogs, but I can't very easily think of another! (I guess Halo, if you count the warthogs in that haha)!
      That's kinda my point with the lemons, they're really forcefully inserted into the game and there's no reason for it, which just makes it feel like they saw Crash collecting fruit and decided to make Hugo collect fruit haha. I just think it's funny how there's a lot of comparisons you can draw between this game and Crash, even if some of my examples might have been a bit out there. It's still undeniable that Lemoon Twist was heavily trying to copy Crash.
