Rob explaining the turbo being out of steam reminded me a lot of Gale Banks explaining turbo efficiency on his channel. I really appreciate the technical aspect of how/why you can/can't make power
@@RobDahm to say it was hilarious, is a massive understatement. 🤣. Your 3-Rotor has got to be the best one I've ever heard, and i bet the video doesn't even do it justice.
He's talked on that before with the 4 rotor being so much more expensive if something goes wrong and that's what causes his nervousness, also the fact his elbow is a few inches from the driveshaft it just gets scary when doing a dyno pull.
Saw you at Shift Sector and this car is nuts, absolutely one of the coolest things ive seen. Cant wait for the next project, its gonna blow everyones mind
I love these videos because there is no stupid, long intro or outro with flashy graphics, no "hey remember to please please please subscribe, comment and like all my videos, blah blah blah", he gets straight into the meat and potatoes, and then the video is over. Love it!
I think one of the best people on the internet when it comes to explaining Horsepower, Boost pressure, manifold pressures, etc. Is the legend Richard Holdener. As soon as you started explaining the PP and how it’s allowing more air flow, it clicked in my brain because of him. Anyone interested in motors, definitely needs to check him out. Good guy, and mad scientist. Glad to see the 3 rotor puttin in some work. 💪🏻
Every time the Fabrication Father appears in a video i realize how much ive missed him the last few vids. The chemistry with the Spinny Dorito Man is just out of this world.
literally watching freaking out that a piece of insulation was gonna get sucked through the turbo. what a weapon though. absolutely love watching your vids as you have been learning over the years and sharing honest knowledge you have gained. Bloody legend.
Your comment about Boost Pressure being a greater indication of intake restriction rather than a hero number was well timed. Engine Masters on Motor Trend JUST did an episode about this earlier this week or late last. Less restriction=lower boost pressure (with the same blower/turbo setup) but the total air flowed may actually be the same or more as a higher boost pressure did with more restriction.
I have a bit of experience tuning a single cylinder, single stage fuel injection system using injector pulse timing. I can only imagine how insane it must be to do it with three rotors and dual stage injection. You are a good tuner, Rob.
Oh baby, more 3 rotor, let's go. This arc is just super inspiring. I want to now just how much of the rotary Rob is planning on building / re-engineering
1. Anyone else start seeing whether the ceiling pieces were going to float into el turbo? 2. Rob, this car sounds beautiful man. They make vids for calming music... Ever think you should drive around and record, haha
I love that Rob is still a pretty boy with alot of brains behind it 10/10 would love to come see it in person 👏👏👏 keep it going my guy! You're Killin it!
Man i've been watching your videos since you first started with the Diablo stuff. Close to the time you had the video of this car on the trailer shooting huge flames. As much as I love the 4-rotor videos, i'm glad to see this thing back!
I gotta say a 3 rotor FD is probably my dream street car. Nothing this crazy (I want something I can daily semi reliably after all) and maybe half or a third the power... but the sound of a well balanced three rotor is beautifully smooth
Older video, also just re found your channel after my account got yeeted. Love the stuff. I watched Banks power a ton, and he gets into a lot of technical aspects. You can have super hot air, and ram all the pressure in it you want, but where it shines is when the air can get in there, prefferably as cold and compressed as possible, and then give it all she can take. Obviously you know this, but just nice to hear you talk about it. People running 40 50 60 PSI on some engines, (with exceptions) you gotta wonder if they're doing it right or just slap a huge turbo and go.
Anyone else notice the super cool helmet the front passenger was wearing about 5:30? If you pause it at the right time, is has a sticker that says SOLD 2013. And it looks it. It's crazy an only 8 year old helmet with 8 year old decals can look and feel so nostalgic.
Awesome work! Noticed how small your exhaust is, I think that is the key factor to the turbo failing the top end. Always see problem with turbine efficiency when post-turbine backpressure rises usually cause the tapering off up top. Noticed on the 4cyl saab at 650whp we find absolutely 0 backpressure at full 4'' combined with single 45mm wastegate with atmospheric vent takes drastic leaps in efficiency. Especially as backpressure post-turbine multiplies with the current pressure ratio of the turbine housing so end up elevating the exhaust manifold pressure so clogging up the chain more. Automatic drop in volumetric efficiency as higher pressure gets trapped as the rotor transitions over to intake port or intake valve opens so harder to get the air/fuel mix in so in the end more waste of fuel as you overspray the ports for same result and inconsistent burn. Always this ongoing pressure balance through the engine, that's where I have found the most power every time.
Funny how you start to notice a lot of these youtubers/youtube channels being in the same place at the same time, Donut Media shot their video with the Altima here too
Get one,you can pick up an RX8 for not much money. I would go for a car from the warmer states if you're in America as the RX 8 is prone to rust on the wheel arches, sills and boot/trunk lid around the 3rd brake light. I love my RX8, I chose it over anything else I own in the summer months.
