    I also think Mellie realised that Olivia was back because she knows her husband well enough to know he would not have spoken from the heart had he not been prompted by Olivia. And I think that's why Mellie broke down

      I def agree with you. Olivia gave Fitz pointers in the SOTU that not only made him connect with the people, but draw standing ovations for gun control. In a republican camp that is unheard of. Everyone can say what they want about Liv and Fitz's relationship but she always helps push him to the top of whatever challenge he is up against, she knows how to make him connect with the people. That is something that Cyrus, Mellie, and now Gabby are totally incapable of doing. So, yeah I think Mellie realizes that the changes Fitz made in his speech were not his own doing, but were due to none other than OP.

    I think we forget that Jake has been through the same things that hook has been through- the family issuesas far as we know the way that Jake treats Olivia when they return to dc is his coping mechanism it is how he compartmentalizes everything that happens and its probably the only way that he can deal with the situation that he is in. Jake amd Huck's characters parallel in the way that they need love or they crave love however they don't know exactly how to be loved and then definitely not sure on how to reciprocate that love.

    Olivia is grieving the end of her relationship with Fitz with pain numbing sex with Jake. Olivia is heartbroken because Fitz is the one who rejected her and not the other way round. Liv does not know this 'Fitz' and it is eating her up.
    When season 3 ended, I said over and over that Liv would not have the luxury to choose between Jake and Fitz because Fitz would reject her like he did with Defiance. Fitz totally blanked Liv in the Oval by keeping their conversation strictly business.. Liv was gearing herself for puppet, crying , pinning Fitz, instead She got business POTUS. Olivia finds herself alone: Harrison is gone, Abby moved on and Quin and Huck are crazy. Liv is left with Jake so she hangs on to him for dear life. Olivia's heart is hurting and she sexing Jake to relief the heartache from losing Fitz. I FEEL BAD FOR JAKE., he will end his service arrangement with Liv by #404 then Liv will be all alone, her worst fear.
    Fitz's final sentence of the SOTU speech hit home to Liv, She interpreted it has Fitz drawing a line under their relationship. That was when Liv left SOTU for Jake's hotel. Thanks Shonda for giving Fitz his balls back; let him care for his wife, she deserves it, unlike Liv that forever betrays his love for her.. However, I am afraid of what Shonda is doing to the Liv 's character at the expense of elevating Mellie and especially Jake. shonda really wants Jake to be front, back and centre on the show. the only way to achieve that is to attach Jake to Liv.

    • @naj2056
      @naj2056 10 лет назад +1

      I was wondering about Liv being all alone too. She really has nobody to hold her down right now which is so sad. I thought it was going to be Jake but he is all salty about being back in DC, booty calls, and investigating Rowan so can't count on him. I don't know what she is going to do?? I feel bad for her.

    • @lolacadoza1578
      @lolacadoza1578 10 лет назад +2

      Nola chick I know, poor Liv, all alone:( See I don't feel sorry for Olivia. Since S2, she has manipulated everyone, used them and discarded them at will, Fitz in particular. She went into a relationship with a married man and expects that man, who just happened to be POTUS to leave his wife for her, at the same time begs him not to. She then gets jealous like the spoiled child she is (daddy'd princess she is) when Fitz pays is wife a little attention.
      She repeatedly betrayed Fitz, first with defiance and later by being with his old friend, Jake. Yet she had the audacity to be mad when Fitz hooked up with Amanda Tanner for a blow job. People blame Fitz for not ending his marriage, Will you leave your marriage for someone who gets cold feet all the time, runs when the going gets tough, screws your friend at every opportunity she get? At least Mellie is a ride or die kind of girl. The moment Fitz saw Mellie in that red dress, ready to join and not abandon him when he needed her for SOTU address, Fitz realized that Mellie will always have his back and he hers. Fitz and Mellie's relationship will change: they will love each other as friends and parents but not in a romantic way..Liv and Fitz are soulmates, they will reunite or part ways but forever love each other.
      The problem with Liv is there is one role for her and another rule for others. In this episode, she was surprised and a little upset to learn of Quin and Huck getting it on at OPA, Yet she and Fitz screw each other all over the Whitehouse. Olivia is on her journey and she needs to be stripped bare. My only problem is that I don't Like Jake but Shonda does and live her fantasy off these Olake scenes.

      Lola Cadoza
      You know I think if Kerry was not pregnant last season we would have seen alot of Olake sex. The issue is always substance in a relationship. Olivia Pope has not slowed down to find that with Fitz or Jake. Of course Fitz is married m but with Jake there is no excuse.

    • @naj2056
      @naj2056 10 лет назад +4

      Lola Cadoza ok liv betrayed him with defiance and by sleeping with Jake, umm mellie betrayed him with defiance and sleeping with Andrew his buddy...I get that you don't sympathize with Liv but Mellie is manipulative and has done her fair share too. Liv needs to be stripped bare I agree for her journey which looks like it is going to be a lonely one

    No! I think that Mellie broke down at the end because she's had enough of playing the good wife role and realized that Fitz had somehow seen Olivia and not told her about it (remember last episode), that's why his speech was so good.

  • @thefreeism
    @thefreeism 10 лет назад +5

    My casual observations…
    1. Cyrus stays messy - he is the CEO of BAD decisions, he is the reason why Sally Langston almost won the last election, he was dumb enough to think he could let the church blow up, and after whining about how dangerous Olivia to the administration - he blackmails her into helping the White House.
    On top of all that he is dumb enough to think that the new lace front is enough to pull him a hot piece. Since, James told him about the neck beard, I wish he would rise from the dead and tell Cy about the hair. And after pulling the same trick on Daniel Douglas how can he not have an inkling that all is not right with this new dude!
    2. I’m neither for nor against Mellie, but she is really grieving 15 years of loss of connection to her son, the loss of her marriage and her rape. I don’t think it has canonised her - but I think that it is good she is redefining her ‘job’ and becoming a human being again.
    However, when it has been necessary she allowed Olivia to be her proxy wife; I don’t think she is a saint. Although, Bellamy Young has killed it acting wise. I thought the expansion of Mellie was due to Kerry Washington’s pregnancy and part of the reason season 3 was a bit OTT.
    3. I need some resolution to B6-13, and Rowan. I love Joe Morton, but now I’m tired of it and the knock on effect for Olivia. It’s way too Darth Vader.
    4. Can we have a completely new love interest for Olivia. I’m tired of Jake’s thirsty tears about being her booty call she actively told him she is in love with Fitz. Nothing wrong with the scenes, I like that Jake calls her out on stuff - but I am tired of his being hurt by the truth. Olivia has never lied about that relationship once.
    Also, considering he tagged along on her secret island escape, I don’t get how he can complain about being a kept man. Hello, you are enjoying a secret island paid for by the man who you were trying to kill (Rowan) but the moment you go back to DC you start whining about being a kept man!

    I had to go separate comment block to talk about Olake & Olitz.
    Olitz - I'm over it. Fitz needs to focus on Mellie. Now that everything is out in the open as to why their relationship went south, I think they should take the remainder of this term to see if they are still compatible or even want to be w/each other romantically anymore. If not, at least they gave it an honest try and can have a friendly divorce once they leave the White House.
    Olake - Olivia get's on my nerves w/the way she treats Jake and he does for letting her. He keeps needling her about being a booty call because she never wants to admit it. He was having the time of his life when they were on the island because he was the source of her attention. Now that fairy tale has gone by the wayside. Olivia wasn't just asking Jake to come over, she told him he can live with her, it is Jake who is saying No to that and I'm glad. She needs to either be w/Jake for real and let Fitz & Mellie work it out, at least for the rest of the Presidency. She knows that her and Fitz can't truly be together until after that anyway. I'm tired of her putting her life on hold for a married man, no matter if he is her soul mate or not. Or she needs to let Jake go and be by herself or find someone new. I want him to tell her that. Be with me or leave me alone!
    You all didn't talk about Cyrus. That Republican lady who is hatching this emotional scheme on Cyrus, must not know who she is dealing with, LOL. Once he finds out what is going on, and I have no doubt that he will, he is going to go ballistic and/or very sinister and get all in her ass. I can't wait. I hope he doesn't fall for this dude, although it is looking that way, but the revenge he will enact will be oh so sweet!
    I loved seeing David go a little grayer, LOL. Winning!!! You go boy! Get your power, then get your woman back!

    I loved this episode. It had moments of great emotion and poignant overlap of relationship dynamics between all of the characters. This was the first episode that I felt moved by Fitz… I felt the emotion of his personalized State of the Union speech and deeply felt the emotion of Mellie as she broke down after. Her collapse represents not only the painful loss of her child but the loss of herself and the rape she has compartmentalized. I also thought the scene with (G)Abby and Mellie was brilliant and deeply moving. For the first time I also felt some "pity" for Cy as he deals with Michael - the sex partner - and his suppressed sexual feelings. And Liz is evil… a great competitor for Cyrus who has been the reigning chairman of evil.

  • @mayfieldmcdaniels

    Does anyone think Olivias character is not progressing at all? I understand she is a fixer, but now it feels like her purpose on the show is for the others to use her for a fixer and nothing else. *Break down* Everybody she cares about clings on to her until they are done being fixed. Olivia saved Abby and taught her what she needed and Olivia revealed to Fitz what was happening in his marriage and gave him companionship. The only people who are around for her any more are people who still need fixing (Quinn, Huck, Jake, and Cyrus who uses her for White House problems& wouldn't call her a friend) She is everybodies problem solving lackey. When Olivia told Huck that she needed him because there was no one else, that is prob. because she knew he would always need her and everyone else is peaces out.
    You know those characters for hire they bring on a show to serve one purpose. What an empty character they're making her. What is there left to admire or be excited about? It feels like, slowly and painfully, they're writing her character out, and if they're not, they are weakening her so she has less scenes so Kerry can carry on with other endeavors which feels uncomfortable being that she is accountable for why most people were drawn to the show. Anyone else?

    I think most of Mellie's mourning comes out of guilt. Because she admitted that she never got close to Jerry because she though it was Fitz's father's son. By the time she found out that he was Fitz's son and probably tried to get close to him it was too late, because he was killed by Rowan via Tom still smh at that. And another thing, when the show first started till Fitz found out about Defiance, he was always closer to the kids than Mellie, Im sure Mellie loves them but she never wanted them in the first place. it only changed after he found out about Defiance that changed him for the worse thats when his kids didn't want to be around him, because in retrospect he became Big Jerry at that time. So when people say he is a bad father at that point in time yes but before or after he got over that I think not.

    I'm okay if Mellie & Fitz get their marriage back on track and things seem to be going great for the first half the season, I don't give a shit if Liv fucks Jake to the moon and back for that time as well. Liv needs to understand that she fucked up when she left "the love of her life" when his son died, even if she felt responsible for Jerry's death and Fitz was acting cold to her, ect. I don't care. Liv & Fitz are meant to be, so by the end of the season I want them back together in Vermont in THEIR house, getting it on & back in love. That passion cannot be replaced. #olitzforever

    Love Scandal and love this aftershow! My thoughts: Olivia should have known that Cyrus was going to contact her to either tell her to stay away or get her to help w/whatever. Jake didn't seem at all surprised that Cyrus was there on their running path for a business booty call, LOL. I also didn't like how she acted like she didn't need the business. The whole saying no, then Cyrus threatens, etc. is just their ritual.
    I loved how Jake knew that Harrison's death was fishy and when he stared David down until he said please to get in his own car, was AWESOME!
    Abby, ummm, I like the new her, sort of. I like that she is a mini Liv. You can tell she took Liv's mannerisms when it comes to business, but then when she is confronted w/Liv herself, then she reverts to the pissed off little sister, who is pissed that Liv left, while her brother (Harrison) was missing and then killed. So she acts out. She is also pissed that her and David aren't together anymore. She will mellow out once she get's her Man back. I did love how she read Mellie, because someone has too. Cyrus tried, but Mellie didn't care and Fitz is coddling her.
    Liv messed up w/Huck. She lost his trust starting w/him finding out that her Dad was Command. Then when she just left, she lost him completely. She used to be able to touch him, she was one of the few or the only one, now she can't. He no longer trusts her like he used to, and I think she is finally realizing that. She was wrong to come at him like that about Quinn and his relations. I can't wait until she says something to Quinn and get's cussed out. Quinn is grown now and won't take Liv's shit about who she wants to bang and/or love.
    Mellie is AWESOME and I'm loving her "I don't care attitude". I also agree that she saw the Fitz as President that she knew he could be. Her reaction was honest. He must have moved her because she is a gun advocate. Her breakdown made me tear up.

    Good observations by the Afterbuzz crew - as always. Love you guys and ladies. I listen faithfully on Friday mornings. Anyway - yes Liv was hot and bothered after seeing Fitz and worked it out with Jake. I hadn't looked at it that way nor Cyrus not having had meat in a while. Yep it will make a person cranky. I can’t do Olitz right now (of course if it was happening right now, I’d be all into it). I appreciate the restraint of the Fitz and Liv characters. TFG and Kerry Washington’s chemistry is still off the charts. It really is - whew - I’m seeing The Trail on my weekend Scandal TV watching list. Good for David and his winning strategy - it's about time. Yes, I feel Cyrus should know better - he is in the public eye but he’s anemic - he needs the meat. Fitz does need to redeem his character and stand by his wife. I actually like Mellie's look this season, even when at the State of the Union, she was simple and beautiful. Not the Mellie "armor" of season’s past. Could Bellamy Young be on track for an Emmy nod this season. So Emile, are Bandwagon Gladiators like Twice A Year or Holiday Christians? Bamm, consult your Scandal episode guide, Ms. Shonda does indeed write episodes - not the majority but she does. My Cold Piece of the week is Lizzie Bear and she will be hard to top this season. I know the Scandal writers will but damn Ms. Portia makes Ms. Sally Langston look like Little Red Riding Hood.

    I want Mellitz to return to love. Revelations have been made, and OLITZ officially is over, but we know it won't be. The moment we think Mellitz have dropped anchor, Shonda will pull a grand OLITZ play and cut Mellitz in a way that continues to canonize Mellie. Haha, at the rate David is going, he'll be killing by the end of this season. He's firmly gray.
    What show does Amber watch?

    • @lolacadoza1578
      @lolacadoza1578 10 лет назад +6

      Mellitz will return to being friends. Thank god Fitz finally said he loved Mellie in his speech. Still the love Fitz has for Liv outweighs anything he has with Mellie. Fitz loves Mellie because Mellie is the mother of his children, his wife and long-term partner. Love is a complex thing and when or where you find it always surprises. In this episode I bet Fitz wished he could somehow love Mellie the way he love Liv. but have no doubt that right now Mellie's well-being matter more to Fitz than whether Liv ran off to Kenya or is screwing Jake at every parking lot in DC. Liv is not on Fitz' radar right now. Olitz's fans can wait.

    • @creating1_c1999

      Right now it feels as if Shonda has regained control of the show. I am glad essentially because no pairing should run a show, especially when the premise is 'scandal'. Everything and everybody should be 'gray'. I simply do not want Liv under the bus in order to elevate a white woman. It's not necessary, not now, since every character has two feet on the ground.

      Lola Cadoza I am an Olitz fan at heart however I am all for them being apart right now. I know Liv is not on Fitz radar, and she shouldn't be, however why ask for her opinion on his speech. That irked me, and then when she tells you no you say some dumb stuff like well you at least owe me that. I am ok with the way things are but if you are going to be with Mellie then you need to stay out of Liv's life completely and that means the business part too.

    • @lolacadoza1578
      @lolacadoza1578 10 лет назад +2

      You make a valid point about Fitz asking for Liv's help, but remember Liv was at that point working for the Whitehouse, just not on that speech. So why did Liv agreed to work for the Whitehouse on the Elliots case?. If she really, really wanted to stay away then she would have said to Cy: screw you. it doesn't matter if Fitz knew she was calling to ask of him or pining for him. I believe Liv wanted to see or hear from Fitz to see if there was anything left, both of them cannot let go. Sex with Jake is to numb her pain. Finally, I believe Liv owe Fitz big time: her mother whom Fitz helped to escape killed his son. Anyone else wouldbe in guantanamo bay being tortured while interrogated fro the whereabouts of their parents. Instead, Liv is having fun and sex in Zanzibar. The audacity.

    I was never a fan of Olivia and Fitz from day one because I believe in marriage. I've been watching Scandal since day one and I love Olivia when she's doing her job. I think she's great at doing her job but as for her and her private life I have now respect for any woman who's in love with a married man. Now I feel the same way with Fitz because I wouldn't want to be in a loveless marriage or a marriage were my husband is in love with another woman. I do enjoy the show but every time I see Olivia and Fitz I just roll my eyes. Sure they have intense moments but I just can't get him being married out of my head.

    Personally I felt the episode was mostly boring but I did love many moments like Abby vs. Liv, Mellie's breakdown (damn great acting by BY) Abby/Mellie, David blackmailing that guy, Jake/Liv, etc. I'm liking Abby and Liv's dynamic and I like Abby at the WH. The Elliots were hilarious, their crazy. Huck/Quinn has always been disgusting to me, especially doing things like spitting on each other. F*cking gross. I'm also still sick of Huck's attitude towards Quinn, just like when he trained her for B613, started ignoring her, tortured her, kicked her out of OPA, then is mad when she left. What? I like Mellie's story so far, it's raw and real. I agree with Amber about Fitz/Mellie, Mellie has gone through hell to make him president and she is right Fitz did love her before and they have 15 years of history and three kids. I still believe after the way he reacted to her sleeping with Andrew he still has feelings and love for her. Bamm was way off this aftershow, I disagreed with like everything he said lol. Amber was a great guest, I agreed with almost everything she said. I loved the Jake/Liv scenes (their dynamic and their love scenes) I just love their banter and their chemistry is so hot. Well, I didn't see it as a booty call. Seeing how Liv hated how Jake basically put up walls with the BC talk and booking hotels, and when she called him and said she wanted him to still stay with her, Liv saying she doesn't like it when he said he is available at the room, etc. I think she wants to make their relationship work or at least not cheapen it as a booty call. Emille, I don't get your attitude about Jake and Liv, near the end of S3 you were loving their scenes. Anyway, I've always liked them and I've been enjoying the hell out of their scenes so far lol. Yeah, when Liv pulled that coat trick I instantly thought of Boomerang. I'm glad Jake is looking into Harrison's death, I think he will be the one to take down Rowan.

    I loved this episode, but where is the baby? Never Trusted Elizabeth form the jump and I hope Cyrus is careful. Abby needs to have serval seats (but I do like how she called out Liv, David and Millie). I love David's change but he needs to be careful (he listened to Abby). I still think Jake is going to get GOT and I still don't trust him (side note: anyone notice that he only had balls talking to David until now). I love Millie right now. Fitz needs to make up his darn mind. Poor Huck (I'm thinking something bad happened to his family, especially since Charlie is back and you know he has some hard feels with him getting dumped). Really though, Olivia showed how much of a G she is, first she fixed the bad marriage, second changed the course of a speech and possible votes and last walked in on Jake like Robin Givens in Boomerang, bokaay *snaps*

    Another great recap by the awesome AfterBuzz team! Sophia, girl, you blow me away with your deep analysis of the characters. Mellitz is coming, not sure if I am ready for it, but I could feel it with that embrace of Fitz and Mellie at the end. I did see the scene the way Amber saw it too, the look Mellie had on her face while Fitz was giving his speech was suspect, hopefully in a flashback scene we will get the full story. Olivia only went to Jake because she was hot and bothered and couldn't have Fitz. Olivia needs to be alone for a while, she is much stronger and believable when she is single and strutting around in her sharp a$$ suits from the Limited, kicking a$$ and taking names!

They never had the chance to form a foundation of love. They became partners in power not in love. She loves Fitz the president Sofia; not Fitz the man.

    I'm giving them a chance, but I'm not digging how they've written or how they're directing Portia's character... something very Dynasty/Melrose Placeish about her aura -- she's like a piece of over-seasoned curry chicken in a turkey dinner with the trimmings... still tasty, still poultry, but just out of place... they need to rework her a bit/ wonder if Shonda is even involved with her development -- maybe she's super busy with How to Get Away with Murder & gave her to somebody on-staff... it's off I tells ya!

  • @actors2011

    I think Mellie's story line is one if the strongest one in the season so far. ( i know its been only 2 epi.) Often we hear in shows how losing a child is one of the greatest pain possible. "There is no name for a parent who loses a child." with Mellie we see it, we're going through it with her. we don't have to be constantly told that she lost a child and that it's painful, we are actually living it with her. ( that scene when she lays down on the grave next to her child.(PERFECTION OF A SCENE). She has lost so much to make the man she love who he wanted to be and all she gets is "i'ma divorce Mellie to be with you" that's a bush move right there.( not saying Bush did that. lol.) not saying she is perfect but damn, give the woman a break. props to Bellamy Young btw.

    Turning to David Rosen... The only reason he is going for Attorney General is because of Abby's manipulation tactics on him, as usual. Abby is now Press Secretary and she was told that the Prez wants a democrat as AG. So, she went off on Rosen in order to get the job done. Abby played Rosen by using their relationship, YET AGAIN, to get what SHE wanted. Abby has always played mind games with Rosen from day 1 of their past relationship. Whether it was to get laid or get info from Rosen, Red has always used him for her own personal gain. My question is this, does David truly want this AG position or is he just trying to get back into Abby's good graces?

  • @Sil_P
    @Sil_P 10 лет назад +8

    Episode 2 of Scandal was a great one. I think with Huck and Quinn, Olivia reprimanded him for this "relationship," b/c she took to heart what Abby said, "they have been incesting all over the office." Olivia is almost like "mother hen" to all of them essentially. They were all seemingly a family with Olivia at the helms pulling the strings. Now that everyone is doing their own thing (though those two are still working with her), she doesn't have that control over them any longer. But Huck's attitude is b/c he went to see his family at the end of Season 3, and it's safe to say that his ex wife wanted nothing to do with him (so he's taking it out on Quinn).
    And can I say that I am loving Mellie even more this season. I may like "Olitz," but I agree, it's time for Mellie and Fitz to find their way back to one another. Losing a child can either tear a couple apart or bring them closer. In this case, Mellie's rape and her distancing herself from Fitz is what tore their relationship apart. Fitz had no clue about any of this b/c he was in love with her at one point. He just thought his wife didn't love him any longer and wanted "out." That wasn't the case! So I think we are seeing these two becoming a "family" once again, like they were initially before her rape. Bellamy Young was fantastic last night. On a side note: Bellamy is a Vegan, so that chicken was NOT real that she was munching on.

      The thing is....it looks like Fitz will never be happy without Olivia. The writers have not done anything YET to change this scenario. I'm not holding my breath for a Mellitz reunion. They brought Andrew in for a reason and I don't think it was just to have him serve as VP. Additionally it does not seem to appear that the writers want to paint the Grants as this happy couple in love. They want angst and drama.

      I'm going to assume that Liv did in fact call Cyrus every day to ask about Fitz over the last 2 months or at least that is what Cyrus is threatening to tell Fitz. I think Liv is not trying to be all up in it with Fitz right now. By her own words, she was the problem, she handled it and doesn't want to recreate it. Not really. Olivia was bidding her time pacing around for a few seconds before POTUS entered the room.Liv took the Elliots to the Whitehouse and she knew the Elliotts were waiting to be introduced to the president. She could have dropped them off at the door. Olivia knows the workings of the Whitehouse, and when the woman asked her to stop, her expression showed that she knew Fitz was coming into the room. Olivia badly want Fitz to acknowledge her, to say something to her, to bring up her leaving etc but Fitz kept their conversation strictly business. Pronto. I am loving Fitz 2.0 this season.

    I'm not saying Mellitz shouldn't be sad about the loss of their child, but the writers kinda pissed me off. The son's death is a hollow plot device. 3 years of hearing about Jerry and Karen then Olivia has them have Teddy. Even Mellie said "Nobody likes babies". So why make it seem like she's so torn up over the loss of a son she allegedly didn't want?
    No one cares about the Grant children because their parents don’t care about them, even though Fitz does most of the parenting. We only saw Jerry like three times and most of his screentime was spent scowling at his parents so his death being milked this long just isn't doing much for me. And we haven't even seen Karen or Teddy. Hell when Fitz was shot the kids didn't even come around! The lack of continuity kinda makes me ehh. I feel for them and I shed some tears during his State of the Union, but it was mostly because of the real life violence from lack of gun control in this country.

      OMG! Just because you never desired kids and may not necessarily be able to mentally deal with kids 24/7 doesnt mean you dont love *your* kids. I think of Cristina Yang from Greys Anantomy. She didnt want kids and never had any but when she discussed the possibility of having them with her boyfriend she stated that if she had one she'd love it, and she adored Merediths baby but she had no personal desire to bake cupcakes or go to the soccer games and give up her job. My mother hates watching other peoples kids and didnt have any at her wedding.

    Portia is kicking it as Liz! I have never seen her work before but this character has meat to it and she is serving it up. Jake will be drawn into the whole Harrison/Adnan murder and will have to tell Liv eventually. He has tried to protect her in the past but not sure if he can "get over" what Command has done to him. As much as Liv uses Jake, he is using her as well - but glad to see neither of them wants to give an inch. Bellamy is playing the grieved mother well but I miss her strength and I still think Mellie needs Jake to put her back together again. Andrew is not enough of a man for her. David stepped up and is growing into a player. Quinn and Huck are the only couple that I can see in their futures. Cyrus is headed for a crash.

    I loved this episode because there was Jake and he is at the center of what is happening. When Olivia was siting at the dining table and looked at her watch wondering where Jake was I was so happy. Jake loves Olivia and is willing to risk his life to protect her. Fitz is a vindictive ass. He was mad at Liv for pursuing a relationship with Jake, a single fine man who loves her. Fitz always makes it about he feels and what he needs. Mellie was awesome. I loved her conversation with her daughter Karen. We also learned Liv did similar things when she was growing up so much so her father sent her to a convent and that didn't stop her. Papa pope is unraveling in his evilness and crazyness. Tom didn't wat to take Jake because like he said he's one of ours. Tom also said Jake has read his file. I hope we learn more about that. Overall it was a great episode.

    I never was an Olitz fan from the beginning, to me, Fitz screw both Olivia and Mellie over. So I don't want Mellie and Fitz to be together, they're just too broken, he cheated on her, treated her like crap, lied to her many times, he made her believe that he gave a damn about her when he didn't. So, no, I don't want them to be together, I just want Mellie to be happy, I want her, to get away from this and find her own love and happiness, she doesn't deserve all this, if Big Jerry didn't rape her, she could have been happy, Fitz would've never been president and he would have never met Olivia, and that way their son would have never died because of Fitz's connection to Olivia.
    I'm a huge Mellie and Andrew fan, I think they should be together, Olivia should go back to whatever island she was in, and Fitz should just stay alone and be an actual president instead of a horny teenager.

      I am so tired of people bringing up the fact he cheated? In the same paragraph Mandy Bel you bring up the fact that Fitz cheated but you down play the Mellie and Andrew affair? You are basically saying Mellie deserved to cheat with Andrew since Fitz cheated on her. That's hypocritical. Cheating is wrong on both sides.
      At this point they both cheated. Really Mellie cheated first. She had an emotional affair with Andrew which is way more deeper than a sexual affair. If wasn't for the fact she wanted to Fitz to be president for her own self ambitions she would have screwed Andrew then but she kept her legs closed or "sacrificed herself so Fitz could become president." Fitz loved Mellie but he was never truly in love with her and she was truly in love with him. Even in that flashback scene I sensed the feeling of love but not in love. In season two he said their marriage was arranged and Mellie agreed by saying pretending is what is real. They eventually grew to love each other but they were never truly in love.
      Yes Fitz cheated and so did Mellie. Mellie is not some saint angel. She made those sacrifices for her own personal advancement and to eventually become run for president herself. Mellie loathes Fitz because he is living her dream...being president.She hates being First Lady because like Fitz said it's ornamental and not functional. I feel no pity for Mellie. People want to blame Jerry's death on Fitz and Olivia's affair....I blame on Mellie for not telling Fitz about the rape. If she would have told him about the rape he would have went ape shit on his father and probably would have never ran. If she would have told him then they might have brought them closer together back then.
      But what did she do. Take her resentment towards big Jerry out on Fitz and even her deceased son Jerry by sending him away. She withheld sex from the man and aint no man in real life is going to wait 10 years to have sex. NO DAMN MAN....So you expect this man to constantly take his wife's bitching, no intimacy, and cold treatment towards him and remain faithful, loving, and understanding. Not realistic.

      Come on, Olivia and Mellie are both sad because of Fitz, what kind of relationship will Fitz provid them anyway ? he's an ass that's all.
      Mellie was raped, do you realise what a raped person goes through ? Especially one that was raped by her husband's own father? How could she tell him that ? By not saying anything, she was protecting him, I mean how would you react if your father raped your wife ? and maybe got her pregnant ?
      I don't blame Mellie for not telling him.
      And Fitz cheated on her in the first place, he could have just fancied Olivia but he chose to have sex with her, and even when Mellie told him to stop seeing her, he kept seeing Olivia. What kind of person does that ? And when Mellie cheated on him with Andrew, he forbid her to see him and he made Olivia blackmail Andrew for that. I mean what kind of sick person does that ? If you cheat on someone you don't care about, the least you can do is shut the hell up when you found out they cheat as well.
      I want Mellie to get a divorce, and marry Andrew. I want Fitz to end up alone because he doesn't deserve to be loved. I want Olivia to be happy and the only way she can be happy is in an island somewhere with a random guy, or with someone else, away from Fitz, from her father, her mother and everything.
      I know that it's not going to happen, since it's clearly a show about the complicated life of Olitz, and how they will end up together and have a shit-load of kids. But, I still think that Fitz is an ass, and I think most sane women would leave him in real life, because if a guy can cheat on his wife, he will surely cheat on you.

      Mandy Bel
      Don't care about Mellie's rape. It was a ridiculous plot device to make Mellie some saint/victim that she isn't. She didn't tell Fitz about the rape because she wanted to push his political career with his pig father's support,which she blackmailed him into givin; she chose to pursue power over getting justice. Fitz being President is all she's ever wanted so that she could be First Lady. And she cheated on Fitz with Andrew while Fitz was cut off and celibate for a DECADE before he ever met Liv,so let's be clear about that. Why would mellie deserve fidelity after all of that?
      Liv and Mellie are not Fitz's victims; they are victims of their poor life choices, especially Mellie. She's all about laying blame for her fuck-ups at Fitz's feet instead of taking responsibility for the fact that she shouldn't have whored herself into marriage for proximity to power, and every stupid decision that's she's made since then. Being "raped" does NOT absolve Mellie from being a craven, lazy, entitled, power-hungry, hypocritical c*nt who pimps out her husband when it's politically convenient and then cries foul when he wants to divorce her and be with the one he loves.

    I agree with you Emile, Olivia needs to be single for a while. Hate seeing her running from Fitz's arms when she feels rejected to another man's arms. She needs not to have sex in one show and just work on herself.

    Maybe it's just me and I know this is only the second episode of the the season, but there seems to be something off. I am not sure what it is, but it seems like the chemistry is off somehow. Maybe it's the subtraction of characters, or the addition of new ones. While individual scenes are great, as a whole the show is not holding my interest like it used to. Does anyone else feel this way? Like I said maybe it's just me.

      He's not on a suicide mission, I've been hearing people say he was going to get killed since S2 lol. Just like some keep convincing themselves that he is going to go psycho on Liv and turn so evil, it's like yeah whatever. Keep hoping for that, has yet to happen and won't. Jake was in the most danger last season when he teamed up with Huck to take Rowan down, looking into Operation Remington, then when he took Rowan's job as Command. After he took his job Rowan was just hanging around not even going after Jake. If he wasn't killed by Rowan for all that why would looking into Harrison's murder do it? I predict Jake will make it to season 5 and however many others seasons this show has, it's Rowan who I bet won't make it past the first half of this season. Since Jake is looking into Rowan's murder of Harrison I believe he will be the one to finally take him out or maybe they will do a murder mystery as the mid season cliffhanger when it's revealed he killed Jerry and Harrison but I don't think Jake will be killed. Again,been hearing it since S2 and he's still here, it's yadda yadda lol.

    Okay. Umma say it: Shonda, we get it. You push the envelop. We have to be ready for the unexpected in Shondaland. Sex is sex regardless to whose getting it...but Shonda, ...seriously ...the Donna Summer score with Cyrus and the hooker??? Really??? wasn't that just a tad bit cliche'?I mean...we got Frank Ocean...could we at least not have done Forrest Gump or Sweet Life...keep it 21st century??? Donna Summer? Come on now...

    I don't know how I feel about Scandal this season.......I don't know how I feel about Mellie the woman who has said " I had kids for you". I'm still forever team Olitz, but Olivia needs to hop off Jake and get her life. As always I luv you guys take on the episode...

    Love your reviews but sometimes your views are somewhat myopic...you seem to be deifying Mellie. You talk about the rape and yes it was traumatic, yes it's bound to scar her, but..... Remember, she told her husband's lieutenant governor soon after it happened,but didn't tell her husband!!!!!! To me that is a massive betrayal...If she had kept that secret to herself,I would be more sympathetic but what she did was wrong.....

    Enjoyed the review. I will leave it at that. Savage olitz and Olivia fans will jump down your throat if you compliment anyone aside from those two. I'm actually getting turned off by scandal. It needs to pick up. This episode was better than the first at least. Now hTGAWM I'm all the way in. The fans are better also.

    My feels:
    So I never leave comments, but I feel like it's necessary. I know the time constraints keeps you from stating every opinion but I feel some parts of the episode that were important were just glossed over.
    Mellie:
    I feel a major part of Mellie character isn't being discussed and it's been two weeks now. At the beginning of the series (I'm an original original) Mellie had absolutely no bond with her children. She was cold and distant, and she couldn't wait to send them to boarding school. Now in season 3 we come to find out that she was raped and she was under the assumption that Big Jerry was Jerry pops. my initial thought at the beginning of this season with her grieving is Why?!?!? Yes, he is her son, but I don't believe Mellie is grieving like a typical mother. The fact that she says to Cyrus, you don't know what this feels like is so out of lines. I feel that Mellie isn't grieving Jerry her son, but she is dealing with her guilt. She was a shitty mom, plain and simple. And the fact is, she never was close with her kids. I feel that secretly she held some resentment to Jerry because she was under the assumption that he was her rapebabby. In the time she finds out that yes, he was the child she made with her husband, and yes it's okay to love him, she lost him! It was in a 48hr period that all of this took place. So, I don't think she is mourning Jerry, she is mourning the fact that she didn't know her son, she didn't nurture him. Also if she really cared so much, Karen and baby Teddy wouldn't be absent now. This is the time for them to be a "family" and the kids are MIA as usual. I feel Mellie never ever really owned her ish, and now she is confronted by it, and she decideds to play this grieving mother card! That just seems odd, she never plays the victim unless it's beneficial in some way. And going back to the scene with Cy, both of them lost people, and feel extreme guilt, I think this season we are going to see them connect deeper.
    Mellie/Fitz:
    I believe this is finally what they needed to have a breakthrough in their relationship. Fitz and Mellie called war on each other and now for the first time I see peace on the horizon. Fitz and Mellie can not work fundamentally as a couple, but they can come to a resolution now. Even though Mellie was rapped, and Fitz feels horrible about it, Mellie is still the woman who lied to the nation about a miscarriage to sway the public! they literally can't stand each other, but now they are both forced into a situation where they have to have to rely on each other. I don't see them ever being a couple again, or being romantic, but now they can have closure. Now they both can grow up and hopefully build healthier relationships with other people. Hopefully
    Predictions:
    -fitz suicide will come back up
    - poppa pope is up to something (duh!)
    -Olivia and Jake still stay together till JAKE stops whatever it is that's going on
    -Huck won't confront his past
    -Abby will come into her own
    -And Olivia will go on being a brat!

    Mellitz is only going to return to good friends, until Olitz comes back which I hope it isn't for a couple of episodes. Jalivia, no comment, but last scene was pretty hot, but not as hot a Olitz scenes. Huck, poor baby all hurt and stuff. Quinn, um... agree with Sophia on that one. Cyrus is about to get into some trouble. And congrats you for the after show for last week is now over 72,000 ;)

    I'm finding this season hard to watch because 3rd season was so terrible. I don't respect or really like any of the characters anymore. I am sick of the fast talking and trying to recapture season 1 & 2.
