Neiman Gracie does alright in Bellator. He has wins over John Fitch and Ed Ruth, both fights I thought he'd be dominated in. He has a 70 percent submission finish rate. He seems to struggle against wrestlers when he does lose, but somehow managed to beat Fitch and Ruth with submissions. lol His stand up is a little better than Kron's but nothing to write home about. lol Neiman probably won't ever be champion in Bellator, but he's not looking like garbage.
If Kron wants to continue fighting, he should probably try a different organizations. If the UFC keeps him for another fight, he needs to change camps.

I know the word cult gets thrown around a lot coyishly with a cute little smirk, but the word cult is actually a lot more fitting for them than people realize. I'm talking hidden 2nd (and 3rd, 4th, 5th) families/unethical non-monogamy, all the way to Carlos Gracie saying he was a spiritual leader who could commune with central american spirits so he could grift more money out of the rich bankers and politicians who were early Gracie students. Oh yea, he also believed - and stated outright - that him, and other men in his family like Helios - should be able to breed with all their hired maids at the Gracie compound because of their prowess and spiritual acumen. Rickson's mother was literally their darker skinned maid who he knew from birth but didnt learn she was his biological mother until his late teens or early 20s. She was ashamed of having been manipulated by the gracies and begged them not to reveal any information about Rickson being her child to her family back in her hometown. And these things just scratch the surface. Their origin stories involve overt, explicit racism against japanese and black brazilian fighters, homophobia, one time the elder gracie brothers (Helios, George, and I think Carlos) jumped a wrestler because he won and they didnt like how he talked about them. They beat him with pipes, and then used their political connections to avoid prosecution. I'd say im shocked except that im not because some of them will still suckerpunch and jump dudes at bbj competitions even to this day

Kron has insinuated that he was not inclined to take the mantle but felt he had to after his brother tragically passed. Krons first passion is skate boarding. He is an amazing ju jitsu practitioner. He seemed stubborn to go head to head with cub swanson and not even try to mix it up. His skill level deteriorated so much in his last fight it almost appeared deliberate to get back at his Dad with whom he seems to fallen out with. Kron has abilities overflowing but he seems to be sabotaging his own chances of success. Kron needs to make up with his Dad or if not willing give up fighting and choose his own path of happiness. Before Cub Swanson Kron displayed a very likeable personality. Something else has happened that has made him mentally unstable and this has obviously been going on since Cub Swanson. Rickson already commented that Kron did not fight how he should have done and he wanted to prove hes a man by fighting with fists only instead of using his amazing skillset. He needs to get the right balance which favours predominately ju jitsu but with enough striking to counter, defend and setup takedowns etc. I hope his next steps in his personal journey are the right ones for him.

The rest of the world has had 25 years to find a blend of different tactics to neutralise old school Gracie BJJ, which includes wrestling, TDD, the jab, the teep, and of course more BJJ. The art evolved when Helio and Carlos learned it back in the 1930s. Now its become a dogma with some people ... and holding onto an art that's 30 years out of date is only going to yield similar results.
If Kron threw himself into wrestling, this previous fight would have been substantially different. He needs to get on top to use the full scope of his BJJ mastery IMHO.

No one who had seen him fight up to that point took him seriously as an MMA fighter. It was a bit like the Ben Askren situation. A guy is hyped by an organization but anyone paying attention knows it's all bs. [ Some "journalists" are paid to say good things about fighters in upcoming fights. ] If you watched the Cub Swanson fight alone, you'd know--no one with Kron's striking, at his age, has any chance whatsoever in the UFC. That fight was like watching a grown man beat up a child. So it was with Kron. He's 35, and has been beaten to a pulp in his last two fights. He has a great chin and a great spirit, just shitty striking. Let's move on.

Kron clearly dislikes prize fighting. Even so he was 5-0 until he fought Club Swanson.
Thing is, this is NOT a bad record. It's just that he is a Gracie and so victory is synonymous with the Gracie name. I don't think Kron is a guy that enjoys fighting and his absence from competition, clocking in 7 fights in nearly a decade, makes this evident. Most MMA fighters will have clocked in around 20 fights by this point.
The guy wants to run his fight academy, skateboard and train. That's about it. Training to stay fit and training to fight are two different things. He has said so on a few occasions that he entered competitive fighting to appease his brother who wanted him to continue the family's legacy. At 35, this is not his prime to do that. He has yet to be KO'd and losses against veteran UFC fighters by decision have no shame attached. He has done the Gracie name proud but this is not his vocation.

Clinch is the only way, add some greco and dirty boxing. He will never be a great striker but he doesn't have to be. He just needs to learn enough to get him close. Also he seems very fixed on close guard. His game has not changed in 10 years. I love BJJ and Kron but everyone I know agrees, wrestling, footlocking, adding new stuff is the way to go. Kron needs to do this as well. I think the need to prove Gracie JJ has left him a dinosaur in MMA.

He needs to forget everything Gracie if he wants a shot at being a good mma fighter. The Gracie’s gave us bjj which we’re grateful for but they still believe it’s the holy grail and still believe that it’s enough on its own to win fights. There not prepared to evolve in mma or bjj for that matter and not to mention there so arrogant. They need to get over them selfs and accept that Gracie jiujitsu is outdated or there gonna find them selfs falling more and more behind in both sports.

  • @johnb4467

His loss to Cub shouldn't be a knock against him -- that dude is a hard-core veteran and was still in his prime years when they fought. That he decided to stand with him likely wasn't the best thing to do...but he did quite well considering who he was fighting.
Admittedly, I don't follow the UFC as closely anymore...so I didn't see the fight and am not ultra familiar with the guy he fought last. The huge layoff, I think it's safe to say, likely played a part though. Having to jump right back in to his UFC contract likely didn't help much, either (versus coming up through smaller promotions, etc).
Ideally he would have been working on his striking this whole time, but what most are saying is true: the Gracie's aren't really big adopters of anything other than their own system. At least not to the point that they need to in order to keep up with elite competition. I started my BJJ journey at a Gracie school way back in about 2004, and while I loved what I learned there...the art has definitely evolved.

He trains striking with the Diaz brothers. They have never been known for amazing boxing technique or amazing power but instead for their cardio, volume and unreal toughness, none of which Kron has. He should have chosen someone else to train with and emulate their style. Honestly a wrestler would have been a good idea to learn proper takedowns.

Because he was built to fight at a highly phenomenal level,, God gifted,, not everyone is built to fight at a super high level,, and very few built to be phenomenal mma and boxing world champions,, you have champions then you have phenomenal gifted legendary world champions ..big difference..mike tyson and Rickson Gracie,, where both legendary phenomenal world champions..built and born to fight at its best of the best ..in there craft ..

Kron could butt scoot his around 1000 more octagons and he would still whip most of your asses if he wasn’t too kind. Just shut up w your couch coaching, go train, make it to ufc and then you can tell kron your opinion of him in the ring face to face. Until you are there just stop. He can make adjustments come back n be the best ever.. you can’t. Or if either of you could do that, he’s probably closer to it than you now by light years. My money on him. And his brother smoked weed. That’s it. Back then it was looked down on especially by Brazilian parents in Torrance it wasn’t as widely accepted. He was a good kid.
