- Hylics 1 and 2 are a really well made yet strange set of games made by Mason Lindroth. Most of the art is made out of clay then digitized, the end product ends up being a colorful mess and in a good way. These games aren't normal and you find yourself exploring non comprehensible worlds, with one visual spectacle to the next. So come with me as we review and analyse this series. (I'm not good with descriptions, and i'm pretty tired rn)

What I love with the item animations in both games is how eh...? they feel, the dynamite is not thrown properly, things get examined and just c o n s u m e d out of thin air, It's amazing.
I’m soo late on this but the intentional messiness and distorting soundtrack Hylics 1 was caused by Gibby’s rule and power over everyone. His power created disclarity and false free will. When Wayne “kills” Gibby, the world became clearer to everyone and order was temporarily restored, this being represented in the new soundtrack.
This is a fantastic piece of art! Imagine having a horror game in this artstyle^^.

I think the fact that these games aren't horror is my favorite aspect of the style. It could be painted as terrifying, but you're just vibing through a weird little archipelago. It's nice :)
I know this is an old video review, but I just thought I would mention that the video incorporated in the dynamite attack animation comes from footage of an actual nuclear bomb test that took place in Nevada in 1955 or '56. I did a quick search and found that the test conducted was called Project 56; there is a video on RUclips that chronicles this event under the title "Atomic Test In Nevada (1955)". Great video, and glad to see more discourse out there about Hylics! Played it several years back, but should revisit it; should also give Hylics 2 some more love as well..
The Hylics 2 soundtrack is what got me to play the series, that OST is BANGING

making fun of RPG Maker for being accessible and Sturgeon's Law and such is cool and all (that's sarcasm... mostly) but the least you could do is actually have footage of the 100% RTP, Final Fantasy wannabe garbage that actually exists, and not something with effort put into it
I see where you are coming from, but I think my point still stands. Whether a game is good or bad is irelevant. More often then not games coming out of RPG Maker are not visualy appealing, this is what makes Hylics impressive. Im not saying One way heroics is bad, but even a game with lots of effort put into it doesnt always escape RPG maker unscathed.

So I'm coming back to this video because I have started watching Midnight Gospel, a tv show on Netflix, the art style, flow of this game, and the soundtrack all remind me of that TV show. I'm gonna pick up both Hylics, just to enjoy when I have that show on.

Undertale was an Earthbound for children below the age of 5, it spawned a questionable community, I respect the game for being fresh and not Final grinding 1 million but its legacy is not that long, forgotten already even tho it was everywhere.
i could definitely see how undertale could fade from memory in some corners of the internet/video game world but i promise you it still has a veey large and dedicated following, especially considering how popular deltarunes newest chapter has been.
i think its less faded from memory and more just stopped overtaking everything and has found its niche. I mean I dont think anything will top the original insane hype that undertale got when it first blew up
