My Dad was a piper in the King's Own Scottish Borderers from the 1960s to 1983. The only reason I wanted to get married was to have him play at my wedding and The Glasgow City Police Pipers was the tune I wanted...I always loved it when I heard him practice 🥰
I remember seeing this video like a month ago thinking it would be way over my head. Now I'm playing it just like this. I just wish I could find the sheet music for the second part.
First of all, awesome! Nothing is over your head if you put in the time. I think the second version of the tune is in Donald MacLeod’s book 1. That’s where I learned it I think.
Nicely played! According to Donald Varella, who compiled the “United States Bicentennial Collection of Bagpipe Music” and knew Donald MacLeod well, the second two part version you played was the way MacLeod intended the tune to be. Supposedly, if what Varella told me is correct, Donald MacLeod was none too pleased about the four part rearrangement.
Sure thing! At this point, I was playing a plastic G1 chanter with a G1 reed. My drones are Naills, DN2s, and I was playing Kinnaird Edge tenor drone reeds and a Kinnaird Evolution bass drone reed. I was playing a Bannatyne bag with the Bannatyne canister system as well.
Thanks very much. I appreciate that. In my more recent videos, I have a new G1 Gold blackwood chanter and a sheepskin bag. I think I like that sound a little better.
Nice jig... I'm used to hearing it played poorly for Highland dancing; pleasure to hear it played nicely.
That’s very nice of you to say! Thank you!

I really appreciate the responses and uploads. Incredible stuff. I'm trying to get there.
Just out of curiosity, what pipes do you have coz they sound fab!
Thanks very much! Those are Naill drones, DN2 model, and I think I was playing a G1 plastic chanter and G1 reed.
Nice!
@@piperpotts1969 Thanks!
We practise the chanter at school and are on this song, the first part
Very cool. I’d love to hear it when you have the tune off!
