In Tennessee, USA, I had never heard of this dish till I started watching youtube cooking vids. I had heard of Yorkshire pudding, we used to serve one with steaks when I worked at a hotel restaurant in Nashville TN. I love them! I have yet to make this dish but I really should try it. Your vids are great.
Would love to see these type of recipe videos return. The review and competition/challenge videos are nice to watch, but I am missing the straight-up recipe videos that you used to do.
Made this today and it turned fantastic. The addition of onions gives it a different flavor and the whole dish is so easy to prepare! Thank you. This is a keeper!
My friend's mother always told us when we were living together that when the landlady comes to inspect the place, we should bake cinnamon rolls to mask the smell of the cat we weren't supposed to have.
Croissants will give off a nice whiff because of the caramalising effect and mailard reaction. Combine it with coffee (leave a couple of cups on the side before the inspection) and you should be good. Basically any nice baking smell will do it. You could buy a sheet of puff pastry and cook that etc.
I'm glad you finally shared a Yorkshire pudding recipe. I moved to London 4 months ago and asked a couple people and they just started fighting about how to do it instead of telling me :(
I’m still inordinately proud of the fact that when I decided to make Yorkshire puddings this past Christmas…made them with roast beef and onions, and baked potatoes…they came out lovely and crispy. It was my first time making them, as well!
One of my husband's favorite meals is when I make a beef roast with yorkshire pudding and gravy. (And yes, I make my yorkies from scratch) I've never had toad in the hole or knew what it was but I have heard the name. This will definitely be on our table soon! You have just made my husbands stomach very happy!!! :)
I went to england 5 mths ago and never tried Yorkshire pudding ever ..now that I did..I've been craving to make something similar to that ! Thanks guys for showing this easy peasy recipe :) !
In America (or at least where live) toad in the hole is a piece of bread with the center cut out. It's then put on the stove and an egg is cooked it the center. It's cool seeing how the folks across the pond make it. :)
Even though I was born & raised in the U.S. I lived in the U.K. for a year. I think I felt more at home in England than I do in the States. Seeing recipes like this makes me really miss it. Anyway, I don't think I've seen a cottage pie recipe. I'd love to see your take on it.
In sweden we also have a dish like this one, except we use chopped pork or bacon instead of sausage. Really tasty and it´s called Fläskpannkaka (Pork pancake) and instead of gravy we use lingon!
I have been looking for a toad in the hole general batter mix for ages, I am wondering whether this is a bit rich for say pancakes which I loved very thin?
Mm looks so good, will have to get cooking! Whenever my family sold a house, my dad would bake bread and I would make vanilla cupcakes. This makes the whole house smell incredible but also make it feel really homely.. Also after the viewing was over we would have amazing bread and cupcakes!
+SORTED Food a Toad in the whole from where I am from is a slice of bread with a small square or circle cut out in the Center and put into a pan with butter, than you crack an egg in the middle fry on both sides!! It's beautiful
Awesome vid, I'll def. have to try out this recipe at work, possibly put it on the menu (with credit to you guys) , and great job with the simple Demi glacé !
A tip for when the onions are really strong and are burning your eyes, stick your head in the freezer for a bit. Used to prep a lot of veg for work and a coworker gave me this tip. I don't know the science behind it, but it works.
I've made Yorkshire puddings before, we used a pumpkin filling rather than sausages. It was a bit stressful, to be honest. It was for Thanksgiving and we had so many other things going on at the same time, so all the bits that had to be done quickly were really intimidating. It turned out really yummy, though! Can't wait to show this to my mom. She'll be so irate that it doesn't have to be done in individual servings in cupcake tins LOL
guys where did you get that bowl that u put the pees in at the end of the clip ? allso do u know if u can get them in red or black thanx love your tips
It says Sausage Crumble in the suggestions at the end, but I can't find it on the channel or the website. Help me Sorted Food! Whatever will I do to satisfy my sausagy crumbliness?
British educated Yank here back home in southern Virginia who would love your takes on: Beef Wellington, Bangers & Mash (with the perfect onion gravy and a challenge: a mixed root veg mash), Rhubarb Crumble with Sherry Custard, Beans on Toast (challenge: no tinned bean), Welsh Rabbit (or rarebit - you can settle that!), Spotted Dick (your challenge: all chocolate with dried cherries and fresh whipped cream - paired with a clipper of the quintessential wine for chocolate: a Banyuls), a Pavlova (your challenge: tropically inspired) and finally for you lads…High Tea (challenge: a Builders High Tea aka the perfect high tea if served in a man cave). I have thrown down the oven gauntlet.
Any chance for the few countries that do not use celcius and the metric system. Yes I use grams when cooking and baking when needed. But the stoves and ovens do not have celcius they are set in fahrenheit. Maybe when you do the edit. Awesome channel I have cooked many items.
I have a good idea for a desert! How about Almond Tuiles infused with orange, and to top it all off, it could be dipped in chocolate orange chocolate! You could shape it into cigars or either just plain flat ones!! It would make my day if you could consider using this for your next video :) Plus You guys are awesome xx
i always thought "toad in the hole" was a egg cracked into the middle of a piece of bread that had a "hole" in it. .. what is going on right now. looks very yummy!
I just made it. i never had this or yorkshire puddings before so i wonder if i did it right? The center of the flour-egg-milk mixture was very much like scrambled egg, very dense and also tasted like egg. What have i done wrong ?
Their recipe is totally not like mine. I use 2 eggs, 4oz plain flour & about 1/4 - 1/2 pint of milk (basically add the milk until it resembles thick milkshake). That covers a tin about 12" x 12". It's quite possible the problem you encountered is that you had too much mixture for the width of the cooking container. It wants to be wide with the mixture quite shallow in it. So in your case it's probably undercooked in the middle. Don't give up though, it will be worth the effort!!! :D
Could you guys create a veggie party food meal, it's my birthday on Monday and I want to be able to eat the same sort of party foods as my friends, so like scotch eggs and sausage rolls, but veggie? xx
I have never seen beef stock that thick. In the U.S. I've only ever seen the thin liquid type. Is there any way to make that really thick gravy-like stock?
In Tennessee, USA, I had never heard of this dish till I started watching youtube cooking vids. It's because they want you to cough up money for the club stuff. :(

My friend's mother always told us when we were living together that when the landlady comes to inspect the place, we should bake cinnamon rolls to mask the smell of the cat we weren't supposed to have.
+Akane1313 I'll remember that for next time!

What if your landlord asks "why does the place smell like cinnamon scented cat urine?" You can never fool a wizened british woman! 🙀
I never expected this to work so well!! I made it tonight and I loved it!! Did it with pork sausage 🙂 delicious, great winter comforts. Thanks guys
This was a childhood favourite of mine, before I gave up meat. Wishing I'd seen this before I did, it looks amazing.
I'm glad you finally shared a Yorkshire pudding recipe. I moved to London 4 months ago and asked a couple people and they just started fighting about how to do it instead of telling me :(
I almost always use drippings from the roast for my Yorkshire puddings. Taste so much better that way! And I know what I'm making tonight
The last time Barry's mother talked to him
Back off on your ma Barry! Lol
I have to get up at 4am for work tomorrow and yet I'm still sat here at 11pm watching sorted video after sorted video! you guys are too addictive!!
I’m still inordinately proud of the fact that when I decided to make Yorkshire puddings this past Christmas…made them with roast beef and onions, and baked potatoes…they came out lovely and crispy. It was my first time making them, as well!

Could you do a dish with Haggis please? Considering it's Burns Night in Scotland (25th January)
How do you stop the batter from sticking to the bottom of the tray???? I used non stick but it was a pain to clean up.
One of my favourite meals - how can you go wrong? Yorkshire pudding with sausages ALL IN ONE :D YUM
Now that is a British dish I can get with. Good American football food! My dad would have loved this!
I have been looking for a toad in the hole general batter mix for ages, I am wondering whether this is a bit rich for say pancakes which I loved very thin?
That looks amazing, really going to have to try that sometime.

Heard about this and tried it for the first time a few months ago from a scottish girl!! It's really nice!
If I can't get hold of miwk can I use milk instead for the batter?
Way to go fellas came out great thumbs up
I'm pretty sure anyone who was growing up in the 70s/80s would LOVE for you to do your own version of *drum roll please* - Findus Crispy Pancakes!
+Hannah Forster Hugh fearnley -whittingbum did those, they had a cook off.
Yessssss

Does this normally have fridge cam?
Can you do a video for perfect Yorkshire puddings?
Looks yummy! My Mum would put all sausages, except for one hotdog, for my Sister, who wasn't a sausage fan.

Can you use other vegetables instead of onions ?
That looks delish!
What about a classic Lancashire Hotpot?
It says Sausage Crumble in the suggestions at the end, but I can't find it on the channel or the website. Help me Sorted Food! Whatever will I do to satisfy my sausagy crumbliness?

Haven't checked if you've done it yet or but a big pan of scouse is a good'n
Would you mind having a pop at making black pudding.
Treacle sponge/tart! So teeth rottingly amazing.

I love watching two grown men cry over sausages.
Never heard of it before, but now I want it. Haha!

Dude just Google it. It takes seconds.
Yep! One of my faves!
Here in the States it seems to be relatively common for realtors to have (sugar) cookies baking while showing a property.
love ur recipes!! question: what's a good substitute for wine in food?
Yeah, that was a LOT of wine. That beef "stock" looked like a perfectly functional gravy. Loosen it up a little.
Great British breakfast
Lavender, Rose, Chocolate, and Honey would be my scent. (It works in my head!)
toad in the hole is the best name ever!
Right alongside Spotted Dick :D
You guys should do something like a ploughman's lunch, with homemade pickles and things, that would be awesome :)
idk if youve done it yet, but i love traditional english breakfast! at least when i was in london they told me it was traditional lol =)
Make British Isle Pasties. Thanks for this British recipe. Looks delicious. :)
Could you show us how to do a british flavoured pavlova please
Sorry, Ben, but... "With the sausages pricked"? I couldn't help laughing!
Chocolate chip cookies before anyone comes to visit your house. So good.
I have a good idea for a desert! How about Almond Tuiles infused with orange, and to top it all off, it could be dipped in chocolate orange chocolate! Gosh does this look tasty! I especially love the venison twist~
Any chance of meat pies coming up on the menu?
You may not be able to answer me but I'm just curious: Who eats up everything after you film?
i always thought "toad in the hole" was a egg cracked into the middle of a piece of bread that had a "hole" in it. .. what is going on right now. looks very yummy!
+Kaitlin Gardner Yes! That's what my mum and I always used to call Toad in the Hole, too.
+Kaitlin Gardner Always just known that as fancy eggy (or French) bread haha
That's an Eggy In the Basket.
Archie WahWah uhhhhh...never heard of that before...
*punts Archie out into orbit* No, YOU don't exist. Wait, you do,. I just kicked you.
I just made it.

+QuackHoarSkates Whisk in some flour, should thicken it up nicely.
