Absolutely wonderful voice! Love to watch him and his fretboard work (mastery), He doesn't play. He doesn't perform. He FEELS the music and communicates, soul to soul! It's the way music should be. I can't seem to get enough of Darrell Scott! At 65, playing guitar for 55 of those years, I can say I 'want to be like him when I grow up'!.
My preferred rendition of a song I love. The Sobell guitar is fascinating, like the best of all worlds, a bit like an old small bodied Gibson LG 05, but somehow (and I could not say how) having the richness and punch of a much larger instrument. Darrell Scott is a one-of-a kind guitarist, singer and composer, what a treat listening to what he's doing.
Darrel Scott is a national treasure . . . and I love it that HIS favourite songwriter was our Gordon (Lightfoot). But I could listen to Mr. Scott all day long - and often have.
He could sing "Mary had a little lamb" and I'd still be impressed as soon as he starts flat picking. His personal musical prose evokes an emotional response most performers seldom achieve.
I have been trying to play guitar using both pick and fingerpicking, I think they call it "Hybrid picking", when I first saw Waylon do it (I think it was Waylon). And I agree with you that Mr. Scott is just a wonder at it. He's just so exceptional in both his singing and his picking.
I never knew what Daryl Scott was all about till just this morning. A couple years back I stumbled across his version of “American Tune” while streaming that old bluegrass show I used to listen to when I lived in D.C. I downloaded it, stuck it in my collection, love it still. Then I caught a RUclips vid about 6 months back, Scott live with some mandolinist, I think, forget who exactly. It was okay. Then I today happen to catch this. Lord, oh, lord, what HAVE I been missing all these years? THIS is Daryl Scott?? Well, it’s manna from above, it’s like they dug up a whole new play by Shakespeare, a new novel Mark Twain had written and stuck in a drawer. Wow. What a soothing balm for the week I had to say goodbye to John Prine, to find an old friend I never knew I had. We’ve got a lot of catching up to do.
Sometimes I catch myself thinking I'm a good guitar player. Then I watch one of those I admire play, and I get slammed back to earth realizing I'm garbage.
Man, I am almost willing to to forego the hazards of returning to the US, just to see this man, live. I probably should've just "went" home. So it goes. Long may you run, Darrell.
So happy to run across this guy. Each song was a gem, and I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated his comments in between songs. The issues resonate with family matters and history (mining and Woody Guthrie). Well crafted songs, nice guitar! Will look for more of you, Darrell!
What impresses me about a video of an excellent picker like Darrell Scott done by a resource that focuses on Acoustic Guitar is just how flippin' much Mr. Scott relies on the strength and accuracy of his left hand pinky finger. I mean, that finger is pretty much the core of this man's music, it seems. How cool is it that we got a video of HOW to play the music? Thank you Acoustic Guitar!!!
I wonder if this song existed and just waited for him to sharpen his skills enough to express it the way he does. And I would guess he wrote this song in less than 15 minutes.
11 people are in the wrong place hopefully at the right time. I can see it now....you thumb downed this video?!.....we can no longer be friends or family.
What are you talking about?? I guess you don't actually play guitar, else you'd spot the countless different chord inversions he throws in, and all the little fills. There is NOTHING weak about his playing.
Ohh yes he is a fabulous guitarist and song writer, I have been following Darrell for years, it's that GUITAR I was referring to, it is NOT a boomer.. He usually plays some very great sounding guitars like in this video: ruclips.net/video/fVlIzr5qfAY/видео.html -- I've played guitar since age 8 and owned just about every make on the planet! Life is Good.. I love this version of Harlan, and listen to the difference in this guitar ! ruclips.net/video/ZtSLMGc4VSA/видео.html
He's mic'ed much more effectively in the video you attached. I've heard several examples of him playing that Sobell that are awesome. Your sound tech can make or break you.

This man has an encyclopedic knowledge of chord shapes. Absolutely outstanding.

The greatest to ever do it by a very wide margin
I hate how under appreciated he is like he writes all these amazing songs and big artists come in and take all the recognition, it honestly upsets me.
Just discovered Darrell Scott yesterday. I can't stop listening to him! I'm going to learn this song if it's the last thing I do.
You'll never be disappointed with Darrell Scott
He's an old friend and his music soothes my soul. I'll never love anyone's playing and voice more.
There just isn't a finer musician or songwriter on the planet today, no matter the genre, and he can play them all.
Saw him at The Triple Door, in simpler times. Best show I have ever attended in my life. I still think of that show often.
I have yet to see him live. I'm eager for it to happen.
This is awesome - great hybrid player and songwriting.! Thank you for lesson! Peace be with you!
He could sing "Mary had a little lamb" and I'd still be impressed as soon as he starts flat picking.
His personal musical prose evokes an emotional response most performers seldom achieve.
The very definition of a (nearly) unknown master. This music is astoundingly complex, meaningful and moving….. thank god tim o’brien led me to him…..
The intimacy from this session, priceless.
He makes the damned thing sound like a 12-string. This man is my god.
A Memory Like Mine-- What a song! The power of the lyrics came from his father. Amazing.
Great Songs! Awesome voice and guitar picking! Love it!
My fav of Darrell's songs
Just saw him at the 30A Songwriters Festival in Destin, FL. FANTASTIC!!
Wonderful singer/songwriter. I can’t believe I have just discovered this hugely talented man. Was watching FX series “Justified”.
His chords are so beautiful. His style of using a pick with finger picking is unique.

It’s just a simple hybrid technique. Great way to play technically difficult parts on some songs.
@@Halffastpaddler yep, hybrid picking. It’s hard to master.
Love you Darrell ! :)) x
He has The Gift! This is absolutely incredible in the beginning, and just keeps getting better.
Having worked in the power plants in the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority), I know exactly what he's singing about.

Darrell is a national treasure!
Amazing talent
I must of listened to and watched this a 100 Times, thank you, it's an eduction in life.
Oh, Darrell, your words and music move me :) Thank you.
Sometimes I catch myself thinking I'm a good guitar player. Then I watch one of those I admire play, and I get slammed back to earth realizing I'm garbage.
Not garbage, Alexandre. Just not Darrell. I've got the same problem.
I empathize, but your playing is yours, no one can touch it. Keep playing . .
what a monster performance!!! this gave me chills!!!
Very soulful voice and fine guitar playing. Reminded me of Lowell George of Little Feat.
Love this guy.
incredible delivery.
Man, I am almost willing to to forego the hazards of returning to the US, just to see this man, live. I probably should've just "went" home. So it goes. Long may you run, Darrell.

at 8:13 how he casually drops in Guy Clark... and a zoon.... GUY CLARK!!!
Darrell Scott, you're a legend
Best stories ever.
Wow! Genius
A great, rich voice.
really nice!....bravo!
Darrell's great. RUclips's ads are very annoying.
Love it man
Sehr gut Handgemachte ehrliche Musik.
Hide out in the hills and make moon shine!
Genius!
Top notch!
Great!
Great performance. That guitar needs someone like DS to make it sound that good.
Very nice
Wow if this guy just keeps on practicing and working hard he might just make it someday... ;-)
I wonder if this song existed and just waited for him to sharpen his skills enough to express it the way he does. And I would guess he wrote this song in less than 15 minutes.
Просто очень классно!!! Этого не хватает на российской сцене
Darrell seems like a very serious guy....
Reminds me of Town Vansant.
With his song writing yeah but with the style not so much
Buddy Miller toured with Plant too
That is ASSUME!
11 people are in the wrong place hopefully at the right time. I can see it now....you thumb downed this video?!.....we can no longer be friends or family.
Robert Plant let this picker shine on his tour
Now I am curious about what his banjo playin great grandfather did that was so awful?
We dug coal together
The music is beautiful; the shirt--not so much.
LOL
man, that guitar is very WEAK, I love me some Darrell Scott, but that box sucks..

think this guitar has a sweet sound, it's the mic placement .
Wish I could sound that “weak”
