I did the same thing to an LG 42LN5300 last night. I ended up doing all the leds and lenses for fear of future failure for my customer. Just a few things to add to this great video:
When reinstalling the diffuser lenses make sure you get all the old pieces out of there. If the diffuser lenses are too high off the LED it will create weird circular spots on the back light panel (layers under the lcd panel) that will be visible while watching TV.. i found that out the hard way and had to lower about half of the lenses. Also avoid prolonged heat or too much glue as it will discolor the led itself causing the panel to have inconsistent lighting...Great video!

Tampatec Thanks man, awhile back i was talking to you about a sony kdl-46hx800 with I think a five light blink that pointed me to the LED driver. I replaced it checked back lights, checked everything else. I found a service manual as well. Service manual said to replace the main board and if that didn't work the lcd panel was bad. I found a fuse the size of a grain of sand (1 of 20+ fuses) on the T con board that had a cold solder joint.. I just used my hot air station to heat the whole board up popped it back in and it worked! It was a 2010 TV that quit working in 2011 and sat till 2016. I actually obtained the TV for service in 2015 and after the T con board replacement failed to fix it the customer told me to go ahead and keep it because he did not want to spend anymore money on it ..It was an awesome feeling to bring back that TV..

Jess Rose good job! you seem like you been doing TV repair for awhile. Yeah those Sony TVs can be bad tcon boards or bad LCD panels or buffer boards hard wired to the panels. So far techs in China factories are doing the LCD panel connection repairs. I posted it on g+ but no one use that anymore.

It gives just some rattling sound. How can this be repaired? Do you recommend to replace the entire motherboard? The model is SLD3218CV Singer. Thanks, Tampatec!

Hi Paul, thanks so much for all the help. I have the shopjimmy LED tester and the rework station here, but unfortunately shopjimmy won't have compatible LED's for my Vizio E65-E3, so I'm going to have to go with another online vendor. Problem is, I'll have to find LED's that will match up. Good news: I found compatible 6V LED's with the right dimensions and anode/cathode solder points for my strips, and I successfully soldered and tested a couple of them so far. Bad news: I can't get a matching color. I've sampled up to 6500K Color Temp but none of the new ones I've tried are as far on the blue side of white as the existing (or the ones we see in your video). I'm starting to give up on finding a good color temp match. Do you think I should just use the new 6500K LED's and replace ALL of them even though the native LED color won't be the same? Maybe the TV color settings will be able to compensate? Have you ever been faced with this?

My Toshiba is a heavy and thick width TV but it's going strong. I took your advice and set the backlight lower but I've taken a gamble and set it to "Auto" as that seems to keep the backlight around the medium mark anyway (maybe you can shed some info on "auto" setting? thanks)

Interesting work procedure. I like that those LEDs can be replaced, however, in my opinion, depending on how old the LED strip is, I'm more prone towards replacing All the strips, to be on the safe side, of not having to go back in a month or two later, for the same reason, having had the opportunity. All the same, it is good inspiring technological work. I am currently about to replace the strips on my Samsung UN55J6200DAf..

I have a 55" LED, but mine goes dark intermittently, works fine. Sometimes it goes out qite few times but trning it off and back on restores the picture. Sometime it does this anywhere from every few seconds to a few minutes to the ooint the=at after going trhu this cycle for a while it remains bright with a couple of dark spots in the back ground, one in lower left corner other on right aabout two thirds down from the top.. Could this be due to the led failure ot=r just the backlightinh module??

Hi Tampatec we have a LG tv model number 37lk450u-zh the problem we have had is we recently moved to France from the UK and the tv was in storage before our arrival, I believe that it may have been damp in storage as there was condensation on the screen when we unpacked it,
So when we plugged it in and turned it on it went pop which feel may have been a fuse on the circuit board maybe you could advise, I have attempted to click on you link for parts but this does not work which may be to do with the district we are in.

Hey Tampatec, I was wondering if you could help me figure out what's wrong with my led TV. I thought it didn't have a picture, but when I tried the flashlight test there actually was a picture, just very dim. So I figured that it was leds going out. I have 3 strips, the bottom one never comes on when testing it. The top one and more than half of the middle one lights when I test one led in the middle row. I'm using a digital multimeter that I bought from Walmart. I was just wondering what settings you put yours on. Thanks in advance.

Hi Tampatec Thanks for your help with your Videos .I have a Sharp LC-80LE632U that has worked for three and a half years and presently it's not working and I would like some assistance to fix it. I am getting a Blink 1S+1F code and the backlight is not coming on I have done some troubleshooting and the present state is :- [1] I am getting a Menu in the background with the Remote. [2] I have tested all the 15 LED strips with the Backlight tester ("They are thirty LED 'S in series") and the
voltage of the tester moves from 315 to 175 volts and with a current meter in series I got 29.1 mA of current flowing through each strip. [3] I have tested two new Rows outside the TV and got the same 175 volts and 29.1 mA current.
[4]Row one just like in the TV with three segments P/N:5073+5069+5071 all in series comprising of thirty LED's.
    [5] Row two ,, ,, ,, ,, ,, P/N:5072+5070+5024 all in series comprising of thirty LED's.
For the fifteen Rows in the TV they have alternated Rows one and two. [6] I have just finished changing the Backlight driver IR2E67M after doing some Internet training and practicing on some Motherboard chips . After installing the chip I notice the
whole Menu with the Backlight flickering a little and lasted for a around five seconds and if I disconnect the AC plug the TV would resort to 1-1 Blink code . [7] I rechecked the TV after cleaning and testing the Power Supply connectors with CRC and got a stable Menu. I was able to reset the TV using the Menu and started an auto tuning which got dim after finding about
14 channels. so.I am planning to re check the other Backlight components on the board and do a re-flow of all the soldering joints to see if I could improve on the present state of the board.I have also noticed that the Power Supply Diagram is not available in the Service Manuals for the 60 to 80 inch Sharp TV.

    Dear Tampatec,
I have a 50PA4500-UM from LG. It has sound but black screen. The remote works fine. So I can turn it on/standby and change the volume. I noticed when TV is on the power LED light at left-below of screen has no colour light. And when it is standby the light shows red. I used LED flashlight to check the screen when I press setting button. Nothing shows just black screen. BTW: when I press any button, the power light flash as red.
So I removed the back cover of TV and check back light. It's all black and no more other light except two red lights on the EAX64696607 board.
Could you please tell me what's the next step should I move?
Thanks a lot and have a great weekend.

It can be on it for a half hour at a time then I hear a loud high pitch sound shortly after that few minutes to 20 minutes the screen goes black and the power light goes off too. Then it both come on again for a second and then shuts down. It's like random reboots. If I unplug the monitor half hour and everything works good until high pitch sound comes back again. I look on all the circuit boards for blown capacitors and I see nothing? I don't know what it is? Can you help me? Thanks... Jim
P.S. one time I turn up the LCD brightness and the noise came on immediately? The picture looks normal no dark spots nothing.

Hi Tampatec, I have a 3 year old flat screen Samsung Tv and the problem I am having is with the standby light. When TV is off the standby light is not coming on as it should. As a result I cannot put the TV on again.
The TV can only come on again if I unplug the electricity, wait for some time... plug it back and then the standby light comes on and I can then watch tv. There is only one light and it's red. Please help! I have sent it for repairs and they haven't managed to fix the problem.
    Thanks for your help. xxx

It looks like Shop Jimmy is not answering the comments (not that I can blame them). That's too bad because I have a question as well.
I have found a TV that keeps blowing backlights. I have replaced three LEDs so far and I bet it will blow another one.
It's a Haier HA2347 55" curved TV. I have the service manual and the voltage to the backlights is within specs. I can only assume there is an issue in the power supply that is intermittent, or something wrong with the power in the house.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

its like it starts and then draws too much current and overcurrent protection kicks in and it dies out . i measured voltage with my multi meter and it goes to 120ish then goes down to zero

What voltage and watt's is required for the led strip backlight?.
    For piece

    • @OriginalMergatroid
      @OriginalMergatroid 5 лет назад

It varies depending on the size of the TV. Larger TVs (55") can use 350V. I have no idea the wattage. It would depend on how many lights there are.
