When I lived in Shenzhen I used to tell my friends back home that I lived in the future. Hi, it unfair to compare Thailand whith Shenzhen. Because both Thailand's GDP as a country and Shenzhen's GDP as a city is around 500 billion US dollar. Therefore you can not compare Bangkok with Shehzhen if the whole country Thailand is only the same size of economy as Shenzhen. It's just unfair to Bangkok. Bangkok is even much smaller than Hongkong,while Shenzhen is much bigger than Hongkong.
Bangkok has a very hot climate preventing productivity. Shenzhen is not as hot and it has a cold winter, more suitable for productivity. There are also many other factors causing Bangkok to not have a GDP as high. These conditions also apply to other Southeast Asian countries. Singapore heavily depends on collecting tolls from passing ships, procedural non-actual international trading and foreign currency exchange. Singapore produces nothing but depends on the nations around it and passing cargo ships.
