  • We install our new awning onto the caravan. This Rollaway awning replaces our Kampa Air Pro 390 as it will be more versatile for our upcoming trips.

    We have resisted full awnings, but do enjoy the entertainment of watching everyone else. We opted for a Fiamma zip room but almost never use the sides or front. It lives on the side of the caravan and can be set up in 2 minutes, or put away in 3 minutes. Is great for when doing 6 and 7 week tours in Europe. Ten or more stop is normal for us and we enjoy the was of a bag mounted canopy.

    I have this Awning for a year. It is quiet heavy even rolling in and out by 2 persons who shd be tall enough; the height of front part is hard to adjust to match with height back poles and slope of top to avoid retaining of rain waters; while it is also difficult to close the side panel perfectly with caravan to stop wind... but it is really big awning

      Hi Patric, i agree that you do need to be quite tall, do you use the caravan step at all ? we found that was a perfect way of getting up to the top of the awning.
      Take care

    just a word of caution folks and might be something to keep a eye on I had a Sun canopy on the side of my caravan found out the hard way that they have a tendency to flap when rolled up in the wind and when travelling and has caused extensive denting to the side of my van I found that sliding it all the way to the end of the awning rail so it was wedged and could not lift helped stop the problem have now upgraded to a full awning but the damage is done

      Morning Martin. you raise an excellent point. It was a concern of mine when we installed it. but this kit comes with additional tie downs that slot into the awning rail and essentially tie the bag down to the side of the van. I have had a look underneath and so far so good, but it is a incredibly valid point that you raise.
      Thanks for the comment.

    Really enjoying your videos. I considered a rollaway awning as i think they could save some time, it would be handy if you videod packing the awning away, and how long that takes compared to an air awning.......i recently purchased a Trigano Luna Air Camp 390, and that is a great little awning, and doesnt take us long to pack away. Keep up with the interesting videos !

      HI Nick, we have found that putting away is a doddle. plus when it goes away damp, we can easily manage the sides and dry them at home. A luxury we couldnt do with the air awning. Next time we are out i will make sure we film us putting it away.
      Thanks

    Hi, I have had a Rollaway 400 awning on my van for 2 years now and even with the end straps securley fastened it has still scratched the Caravan. I would certainly suggest putting some protective film on the van that can be removed at a later date.
    Although a fan of this versatile awning I think it is very heavy to roll away and would suggest that the u section of steel that the roof fits to is over-engineered.
    Storing my Caravan in France I have noticed that sealant has been pushed out from under the awning rail.! So is it too heavy for hanging on the side of the van?
    Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any load information for awning rails, what do you think?
    Enjoying your video's Dave

    Love watching your videos, I’m new to caravanning and whenever I look for instruction i look at yours, the question is, this was 6 years ago, how long did it last, what was it like in strong winds and are you using this now?

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  Год назад +1

      Hi, How time flies!! Yes we loved this awning, sadly its no longer made. Its one of the few awnings that we had that did last for a few seasons and we really loved it. In high winds, it was brilliant. extra storm straps were added (part of the kit) and this held the awning in place perfectly. The only 2 issues we had were, the roof did "slap" agains the poles on the roof in some gusts and the other issue, the roof being so thick made the awning quite dark.
      Hope that helps.

    Really enjoy your videos and have used some of your ideas.
    I'm thinking of changing to a Rollaway 400 (if I can locate one) to replace my air awning, I have problems with the middle air tube obstructing the door opening. I was just wondering what clearance you have between the top of your caravan door and the awning rail.

Where did you get it from I can’t seem to find it anywhere, just think it’s much better than a few of the other makes currently on the market. Thanks for your time 😁

    Hello buddy love your channel very good hints and tips we have just brought a caravan from the nec caravan show just wondering which would be the best arwning to buy for it was looking at the air arwning you first brought but you changed yours for a side arwning what would suggest thanks malcolm

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Malcolm, welcome and thank you for your kind words.
      We found the air awning really didn't live up to our expectations. We found the air poles twisted and this resulted in a sagging roof & water pooling etc.
      We found the rollaway awning far better for our needs. But if I were back in the same position, choosing an awning i would possibly go for a light weight pole awning. They are cheaper than the air, and also it gives you an idea of what you will use the awning for. We never use our awning as we intended it to begin with.
      I hope that helps.
      Dan

    Hi Trudgians - loving watching your videos - unfortunately I watch on our Apple TV, which doesn't allow liking or commenting! jumped on the Mac as I am wondering what your opinion was on this awning having lived with it the last 12 months? Funnily enough we have a standard Kampa 390 and was looking to upgrade to the Air Beam one.... you might have convinced me otherwise! I'm not too far from Glossop so might nip to the caravan shop for a demo!

      Hi, We used the internal bedroom from the Kampa air awning. I needed to use some bungee's in order to hook over the awning poles, but once up its really stable.
      When its next up, i will show the details of how it hangs.
      Thanks

    Hi Dan. Sorry to intrude but I just wondered if you had ever heard of the issue I have. I recently purchased a Caravanstore XL sun canopy and thought I’d get a privacy room to go with it. It’s a CS lite that goes with the canopy and it’s the exact one for the canopy. When it arrived though it would not be fit. The sides where too long to go between the van and the metal part of the canopy. On contacting the dealer they wanted pictures to prove how it will not fit. Faimma themselves got back to me with an email saying the product does not fit Bailey caravans 🤔. Our van is a 2016 Pegasus. No explanation as to why but they advised me to “cut a couple of cm’s off the poles. I’ve had to get the credit card company involved to try and get my £900 back. Just wondered if you or any of your contacts had heard of that before. Thanks.
    Matt.

    Hi Dan
    Thank you for the video. Just have a question about this awning as we need to purchase a new awning for our van. In the past we also had a small Kampa air awning which was quite quick to put up but now want a bigger awning and are considering the Quest 400. However we are concerned about how stable it maybe in high winds. A couple of times when we were away it was very windy and some other caravanners had problems with their awnings, which didn't bother our Kampa awning. So have you been away when it was very wind and did you experience any problems with this type of rollaway awning?
    Once again thank you for the videos.
    Rob

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Rob, we have used this awning in really strong winds. All we did was add some extra storm straps and it stayed perfectly in place. When we had the air awning that was able to flex about a lot more, but the rigid structure just needs more care when in strong or adverse weather etc.
      In balance, I still think this awning type is far better than the air awning for us.
      I hope that helps
      Take care
      Dan
