    We hiked to Mt Ida and down past the lake below. My sister was a law enforcement ranger. It was a blast and I had to teach her to use a topo map. Such fine memories ❤️

    I think the name of the game is to get there before the park opens. Great video

      Ya that’s what I always try and do, even before the times reservation days :)

    Thanks for sharing this! I'll be attempting this hike a week before you did this year, so I'm hoping the snow will be mostly gone by then. We'll have to see, judging from the snowfall numbers it snowed significantly less than it did before your trip in 2021.

    STUNNING! WOW! Thanks for sharing, one trail I probably will never do because of the length. So I appreciate you sharing it. I also live in Tx an it would be very hard for us to do without spending some time in Colorado to get acclimated.

    I loved Mount Ida! Parking can be a pain, but the views are worth it if you have to park further away and walk to the trailhead. Nice video!

      Ya there were people waiting to get my parking spot pretty adamantly when we were leaving at noon. Early bird gets the worm though :)

    Are the lakes near Mt Ida easy to get to? Looking to do like, Arrowhead, azure, highest lake, I understand they're all off Mt Ida but how easy is it to get to them? Mt Ida isn't a short hike, so would it take a lot longer to do the lakes in addition to Mt Ida?

      I haven't been to the Gorge Lakes, yet. You can access them via Rock Cut trailhead, descend Mt Ida or Descend Chief Cheley to reach Highest Lake. You'll most likely use class 3 climbing experience no matter which route you take. Should you go the Rock Cut way, it's about 9 miles round trip but it's all bushwhacking. Check out this webpage for more info www.hikingrmnp.org/2013/07/gorge-lakes-via-rock-cut-trailhead.html

    Another quality video Dave. Mt Ida is on my todo list. Just curious what your top 5 hikes are in RMNP and in what order.
    Btw congrats on reaching 1K subs

      Thanks so much Jun!! I’m working on a top 5 hike video right now but can tell you there’s no way I can put them in order. There’s just so many great ones. I always question myself when I try to rank them. This one is definitely on the list though!

    Do you think its possible to walk this trail towards the end of October?

    • @Davespates
      @Davespates  3 года назад

      It all depends on if Trail Ridge road is shut down by then. That's usually the time when it closes all depends on snow.

    Was it difficult to find open parking? How early would you recommend to get to the parking spots?

    • @Davespates
      @Davespates  3 года назад

      We got to the trailhead at 6am and there were only a few cars there. No issues parking. When we returned there were cars waiting for parking spots (around noon). So I would recommend getting there as early as you can

    Thinking of doing this one Friday. I’ve heard storms are more frequent around noon, is that correct? Also would waterproof hiking shoes be recommended for this hike?

    • @Davespates
      @Davespates  3 года назад

      Ya that’s pretty much correct. Chris Tomer is the meteorologist to follow for mountain weather. Summer conditions on this hike so I wouldn’t worry too much about water proof shoes. They all get soaked in downpour whether water proof or not anyways. Bring a good rain jacket
