    Thank you for another interesting project. These videos really do help get better audio to people who don't want to get gouged by the current crop of hi-fi marketing nonsense. I have 7 pairs of DIY speakers from 3.5" all the way to 12", plus 5 subs. I never would have paid the retail prices for the same level of sound quality otherwise.

    We need more of this. Simple folk wanna wanna build something like this, it’s hard to find a solid and common build plan between open baffle builders that start under a grand, and that grand feels like a gamble. There’s so many talented machinist, fabricators and woodworkers that can and wanna use their talents to build speakers, I would love to bridge this gap.

    55 seconds in and you already make more sense than the cheapaudioman. I am all about vintage audio - - but I've got to say that projects like this are always interesting. Open baffle has amazing benefits. This is just a crazy enough idea to work for some people - - and I greatly encourage you to get into low power antique stuff for even more experimenting. Keep up the good work!

    I wonder if these microwoofers, if mounted in properly tuned transmission line cabinets, could respond from 50 or 60 Hz... it would be excellent to eliminate the use of a small sub to supply the low frequencies. I liked this planar tweeter used in the video, interesting.

    Adding side walls to the 'woofers' should give you more bass. Right now the horizontal axis distance from back to front is really near, killing most of the bass, if any. The walls will also add more beauty and stability.

    Toid i really like your channel with a lot of cool builds but this build is not my favorite or better to say the first mwaahh. Maybe you can make a small swere ( half swere over the magnet) chamber, like small sealed for xmax control and why don't trim the pannels as much as you can, like this --> ! !

  • @nonsuch
    @nonsuch Год назад

    Very cool. Hey, I have about a dozen HIBM65C20F-8's that I bought from you guys a few years ago and are very close, at least in appearance but, with ferrite magnets. How do you think they would fare in an open baffle situation like this?

    Love this and your channel!!! Find myself re-watching videos many times.
    Was looking at OB with the dipole AMT $$$ and BMR since the qts on them seemed really good for it.
    Would I need to add a capacitor to the tweet to protect the KABD? I read that the AMT would short an amp without one. Not sue on this planar though?

    • @Toid

    On the face of it "world's smallest open baffle speaker" reads like "world's worst idea". Like if you have small drivers and small envelope, why introduce acoustic short into there?
    And yet it's an awesome lil build. Companion little Ripole-style subwoofer would be an awesome fit on an aesthetic level, what do you think can be done, how small can you go? It doesn't have to go deep deep, just fill out under 300 to somewhere where it's more of a something. Like who even needs anything under 70Hz if we're super honest?

    • @Toid
      @Toid  Год назад

      That would be really cool to add a ripole sub to it

    • @TheTrueVoiceOfReason
      @TheTrueVoiceOfReason Год назад +1

      I just put a micro sub design up on the forum.
      If you need some weight on the OB's, get some sticky back wheel weights for the bases. I saw some 1 oz units that would fit nicely stacked on them.

    • @Toid

      Yes. Creality sent me the laser to do a project with. They didn't care what they project was. If not, hopefully you enjoyed the build.

    • @Toid
      @Toid  Год назад

      You are right. And there’s actually quite a few open baffle speakers that use monopole tweeters. One of the more well-known examples is the spatial audio sapphire M4. But you can use a dipole tweeter with a design like this if you found one that met the criteria you were looking for.
