    Genius. Just plain genius innovations here.
    The relief cuts on the back side for weight reduction are an amazing idea. I'm very glad I watched this video. Making notes...many notes here.

      Thank you for this Mark. Yes, necessity was the mother of invention and even 15 months on from my injury, I still appreciate the lighter weight when lifting the jig onto the bench. I'm about to do the same with another tool for my workshop, video in perhaps two to three weeks, hopefully.

    Hi there. Loved the video and was in complete admiration as to the lengths you went to in order to reduce the weight of the sheet.of plywood. Quite ingenious.
    And thank-you for the credit on the waste side cut jigs / kerf guides. I love to see people put the idea in to practice in their projects for youtube and I appreciate you pointing folk in the direction of my Etsy store if they don't have a 3d printer of their own.
    I've enjoyed your videos recently and always look forward to anything new - say hi to Malcolm too who I gather does all your editing. I've a son myself who, ironically, is a professional video editor but I'm afraid is way too busy to help his old man out on his channel.
    All the very best - Karl.

      Thank you Julian. I was under pressure to finish the house extension before Christmas, which we did and that allowed us to come up with many ideas for future videos. I hope you like the next one which solves a problem with the TKS80 table saw. It's a two parter and we might get the first part up tomorrow and I'm writing the second part at this moment in between my pc grinding to a halt with dozens of stills and videos, sound files and script. More memory on order but sadly only for the PC.

    Love the idea of 3D printing the rail locating device in different heights!
    I'm thinking a pair of locating devices could also work to set heights without needing the sacrificial block of wood by the hinge...

    That was excellent. Very clever stuff - the application of problem solving common sense (once you've see the solution) is brilliant. Can I ask how much a 3D printer is to do this kind of thing? Is it huge? Great production too - very clear. You have a new subscriber! thank you.

      Thank you David and I do apologise for the time taken to reply. I have had the Prusa Mini before passing it to one of my sons and upgrading to the slightly larger Prusa i3s. Both excellent machines, the more expensive one is even more reliable and approaching a plug and play tool. Lots of information on their website and I am certainly glad I bought a reputable printer right off the bat, rather than being frustrated with a poor device.

    Fantastic, I've seen the 'Z' hinge before but hadn't worked out how to make it removeable from the rail, I don't want to sacrifice a whole rail for this. BTW where are you from, the accent is hard to place, I'm from Belfast living in Edinburgh now.

    • @AMBuilds
      @AMBuilds  2 года назад +1

      I was the same, Nial. I had two joined together and a single and so I wanted the single to go on and off the jig as required. However a deal for a long rail came up and I took it and now leave one of the short rails on the jig all the time.
      I'm likely not to be too far from you. Good spot.

  • @malcolmpoole9993

    those locating devices look good do you sell them?

    • @AMBuilds
      @AMBuilds  2 года назад +2

      Hello Malcolm, Do you do 3D printing or know someone who does?
      The issue is that the position of the little index part that fits inside the Festool track is specific to each build and the 3d design software (I use the free Tinkercad) allows it to be moved left or right in increments of 0.01mm to dial in to the 90 degree cut. As you saw in the video, it took three prints for me to get it as good, as I could and then I could make the range of thicknesses using that calibration.
      I could make available a stl file of each thickness without the index piece and a separate file for the index piece which would allow folks to combine them, as needed on their software.
      Is that something that would be of interest?

    BTW - how does one message you to get the 3d print files? I cannot fine the contact information

    • @AMBuilds
      @AMBuilds  2 года назад

      Hello Mike, I started an email AMBuildsenquiries@gmail.com but with this object, the bit that fits within the rail will be different for every sled.
      I was also conscious that I had to fine tune my "dog" spacing on the prints when I made the routering templates and now have that dialled in for my set up. It might not quite work for a different combination of filament/printer/software.
      I am however thinking about making the files available for a small charge to support my work but need to work out how best to do this to make them tweakable by the end user.
      Would you have a suggestion as to how to do this?

    • @mikehuber6005
      @mikehuber6005 2 года назад

      @@AMBuilds Thank you for your quick response. Although your system should be simple for someone with more experience in CAD and 3d, sadly that is not me which is why I was hoping to get the files. If you do not think they would fit into a "traditional" mft top, then I will try to use your ideas and trudge along designing something myself , wish me luck

    I don’t know how to message you directly but could you send me the print files please

    • @AMBuilds
      @AMBuilds  Год назад

      Hello Steve,
      I haven't made the files public because the precise spacing of the files for your printer is specific to your printer, so the templates to lighten the back may not fit your MFT that you have made, without some tweaking.
      More significantly on the various thickness drop ins for the rail, the position of the rail retaining piece is arrived at by experimenting with your own MFT and rail. It would be extraordinary if you happen to choose the same position as me to a fraction of a millimetre,
      I designed all of the pieces on TinkerCAD and they are a relatively simple (as I'm a beginner on CAD) combination of basic shapes and so any TinkerCAD user could duplicate them to suit their MFT and their rail position.
      Does that make sense.
      Kind regards
      Alistair

    Way too much hassle and effort IMO compared to other solutions, like using a railsquare and a much simpler setup.

    • @AMBuilds
      @AMBuilds  2 года назад

      All depends on what I am doing Nick, I have, use and have reviewed the Festool Rail Square when it came out and on smaller pieces, it is remarkably accurate. Sometimes I even mark out with a known square and cut to a line but the ability to cut most or the whole width of a board to MFT standard accuracy suits some of my projects, like the 2m wide free standing larder unit I am working on at the moment. Horses for courses and thank you for your interest in my videos.
