BRAVISSIMA !!!!
Such a loveable, vastly interesting & witty personality! She has fast become one of my v. favourite singers, so much so that I am haunted by her & by her passing. Tragic that she died so young. Much too soon. :-/ An adorable & such a vital personality. RIP, dearest Irmgard Seefried. May many more people "discover" you again in the years to come. PS: She looks sooo good too! More attractive than when young! Hard to believe she was already ill. 😢💔❤️
I have to remember that one! Great lady, great singer! What a shame she died about a year and a half later after this interview... far too young... still so vibrant...
The photos are so gorgeous! She exuded also sexiness, pure & simple. Spontaneous, seemingly effortless, like her singing! Long since gone, yet I fall more in love w her every time I hear her sing, every time I watch this video. The ending when Everding reads Seefried's Credo is sublime.
How funny! If she had have no good voice she would have become an actress- well, her daughter is, and a good one! Thanks for uploading! Irmgard was a very nice person and very wise!
Irmgard Seefried Are old singers really better than contemporary ones or are they fascinating because they belong to another age? No, not at all. But Irmgard Seefried is a great Soprano of the last Century.
Not every old shool singer was better! But its important what seefried teels in the video- if you have voicelessions, wrong singing is mostly a problem. Every Baby can scream, its a natural thing, an instinct which will be forgotten if we are adult...only a beautiful voice is not enough- today you can read in comments how beautiful all sounds today- but this is not belcanto (an art of emotional interpretation, technical high art of singing and musicality for honor the composer). And singers should be audible- in respect for the audience. Today bad singers have the impertinence to say" if they cant hear us, its o.k." NO- that is in no way o.k.! Operasinging is not easy if you do it well!
Tho Hsse Yes, I was sure she knew at this time that her illness was taking the upper hand. When she first watches a film of herself recording & says it was "so lieb" of him to show that excerpt, I thought I saw a certain furtive sadness flash across her face. Had she become really so heavy before being frappée by this terrible illness? Her weight looks normal here. PS: I didn't know Everding also died of cancer. So sad, so devastating, this epidemic.
Grete, don't let confuse you. It IS "Viennese". Seefried was from age 24 on in Vienna and married to the Viennese Wolfgang Schneiderhan who was a great violin virtuoso and concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic. So it would be miracle if she'd not talk like this :) She was such wonderful person RIP
Thanks! I watched it again and now I can detect that her "ei" is not flat enough to be originally Austrian, that really gives away her roots. However, her language reminded me very much of my aunt's, who is a real Viennese and probably even knew Seefried as she was a seamstress in the Wiener Staatsoper.
If German speaking singers stayed a while at Munich and Vienna stages you will always hear accents as well as terms and phrases typically to these locations.
Sorry, I am Austrian and live in Vienna. Her accent is not viennese. It is absolutely bavarian where she was born and grew up. She lived later most of her life in Vienna but she kept her bavarian accent and took over only a few viennese inflections.
Alfred Mertens, almebo Mr. Almebo Why compare them? Seefried was a true soprano, Ludwig, despite her, in my opinion, mistaken venture into the soprano repertory, a true mezzo. Have you a special reason perhaps for the comparison (I agree w you!)?
I wish they hadn't talked so loudly over her singing. I found her opening of "Come scoglio" perfection itself--then she got a little sloppy with the coloratura in the fast section. But always a wonderful Mozartian and lieder singer.

My god, what a delightful woman
Hochachtungsvoll!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a special personality and peerless artist!

Donauschwäbisch!
thank you for putting these wonderful videos online!
Danke

❤
She died a year later or less. Was she all ready ill at this time? If so, an even bigger brava is her due. RIP. 💔
She had already lost a huge amount of weight.... the cancer had been identified already. Everding would die of it too

This is absolutely delightful. Her language really is "Viennese", not German :-).
But there is a base of bayrisch which is audible. But bayern is not germany- they are more like austrian and we like them too :-D
