    Missing 5.1k resistors on CC USB-C pins

      5.1K resistors are missed but not for this application, no data transmission here, or maybe I should add them for the VCONN based on the cable characteristics, by the way the 5.1K value is not always valide it depends on many other factors, you can check more details about the CC pin of USB C connector here : community.silabs.com/s/article/what-s-the-role-of-cc-pin-in-type-c-solution?language=en_US

      I think the point of the 5.1k resistors here is simply to allow for usb-c to usb-c charging compatibility, even though there’s no other data transmission. Making a revision with the resistors and Pmosfet would make for the ultimate little usb-c charging board for diy projects in my opinion. Great work!

      ​@@jameslaraia You would use Pmosfet to separate a battery from the load, right?

    Nice... next revision could get current (charging current; powered device current) and battery (and maybe power voltage if adding like 5-18V input voltage support) voltage measurement capability provided via digital interface to powered device. Imagine such charger connected to, for example, gps tracker in a car, all powered from car battery + that additional battery in tracker. Tracker would be able to report state of everything related to powering it including discharge estimates (in case of main car battery being disconnected).

      @@DIYGUYChris Yeah, specific example with gps tracker but such battery/power monitoring can be used in various devices like new mail in mailbox indicator (charged using solar panel), entry gate notification device, plant monitoring in garden, gas meter monitoring mounted on garden fence (that's where meter is installed here) and tons of other tasks. All such (half)offgrid devices should know (usually for owner notification purposes) their battery state and power consumption. Currently on the marked I see no such charging modules and no well thought out DIY solutions :/

    Hi there Chris
    Very interested in your application, I have a few questions which I hope that you can answer.
    I want to build a charger / charging circuit for 20 of 3.7v 26650 5000 mAh Li-Ion batteries, with which will then feed a 5000w pure sine wave inverter, in situ will be a 14.8v 4S 30a lithium 19650 BMS PCB Protection Board.
    I would be building four or five of these units.
    Your video is for "wearable devices" my 5kW will be overkill but my theory is I would rather have more than needed, than not enough.
    1) How did you calculate the components needed ?
    2) I would obviously need a larger PCB ?
    3) Where did you purchase the hot plate solder station ?
    4) The company that made your PCB's you got for free, was that because you were a new customer, and what did you supply to them ?

      That's a great project idea, I wish you good luck,,
      1) the components values are from the charging TP4056 Datasheet
      2) You are going for more cells then you need a bigger PCB, please consider that one TP IC could charge only one battery cell.

      KiCad and eagle(autodesk) are both decent & free. KiCad is super popular, so if you'll be needing help learning it, loads of tutorials out there.

    I think there is a fault in your circuit.
    You started out by saying you wanted to include temperature control of the battery. This requires 2 resistors as a specific voltage divider, feeding the TEMP pin. You didnt. Well you don't have to, but my understanding from the datasheet is that the TEMP pin in that case has to be connected to ground, not to Vcc as you did. This could lead to unpredictable shut off

      All in one, I don't think so, especially for the MOSFET because it has the biggest size among the three ICs, you are welcome to share any reference here if you find some good alternatives : )

      @@DIYGUYChris The DW01 is already obsolete, though. There are several protection ic's with built in mosfets. And I would indeed not be surprised if there are charge ic's that have everything in one.

    FYI--you can buy these prebuilt for less than $1 / board.
    I'm all for scraping things together yourself, but these are too cheap to waste time doing this unless you need hundreds of them.

      Purpose of this circuit is testing the schem effectiveness, once the schem is valid then I can integrate the charging stage to any of my circuits, I already used it to one of my gadgets and made it with a built-in charging circuit 😉

    Is this a computer generated voice talking back... for everything with an ed at the end, the voice is saying "ed" as another word, example for "picked" it's saying "pick ed" and it is driving me insane. lol.... but good content!
