I would think preparing for a spring split after harvest is the better way to go. Remove excluder, add a deep and let the bees do their thing then split it next spring.
I can't believe how cavalierly this dude just crushes dozens of bees, and just for show too. When you're this desensitized to life and death maybe it's time to move on. Other than that nice short explanation.
