Can you make Hypnotic Ambient Techno with Behringer's Edge? | 2600, RD-9 | Underworld, Voiski |

- Summer suddenly hit hard, ruining my sleep. So this is a sleep deprived little, double tracked jam with Behringer's Edge. Turned into an introspective, hypnotic, ambient techno track. Also featuring the 2600 and the RD-9.
These analogue boxes sound really raw, almost like you can hear the sound of electricity itself. Great deep jam, enjoyed it mate.
Thanks mate! Yeah, quite so. It is different from things just purely generated inside the computer. I don't think Orchestral Movements In The Dark wrote their song "Electricity" about analog synths. But it might as well have been because it is so apt.
In all seriousness, the rawness of the sound is one thing. But the hands one approach is another huge factor. That breaths a lot of life into the pieces as well. And that's something you can achieve with a midi controller and some VSTs.
Very nice double layer... WE need more Edge videos 😎👍 such a great synth 😊
Thank you. And yup, the Edge is lovely. I'll try to add some more Edge action to the video pool shortly. Stay tuned! 😄
@@electronictiger enjoy making music... As I do. Check my channel If you like👍😎 ruclips.net/p/PLGUzauOx1plS-l8jA-qWKFrVVoV5gLyqW&si=DEdDJtdga5ZSFWcN
How did you do the layering? Did you record the first one as an audio track in your DAW and then played over it on a different track? I don’t think you can play both tracks with the sounds coming out from the edge right?
Yes, exactly that. I recorded the second take while listening to the first. So I'm responding to what is already there. And indeed, the Edge is a monosynth so it can only output a single sound.
amazing synth😍
Yes, the Edge is something special.
this was fun to listen to. thank you.
My pleasure Krazy Wabbit, thanks for tuning in!
Such a cool video, sounds really good. Good job
Thanks Heppening!
Lovely performance, lovely commentary
Thank you TrenchDweller, happy to hear you've enjoyed both the music and the commentary!
Nice doubled edge!
Thanks!
And OF COURSE it is possible to play the Edge via MIDI. What are you even talking about? You just have to set it to the right MIDI channel on the backside. Just read the manual!
yeah man! Same here, weather, sleep, and hypnotic patterns. usually play like that till i land on something I can take a nap too LOL! :)
I love to listen to music while taking a nap. That moment just before I fall asleep my mind becomes one with the sound. I love that feeling.
@@electronictiger HECK YEAH EXACTLY! Especially after hours of adulting LOL
Hypnotic indeed. I like the double layering idea. Did you have anything in mind when you did the second layer or just went for it with the hope it would fit in, which it did with the base G and D notes and similar, gradual modulations? Did you have a stopwatch going as well to get both layers closing out at the same time? Just curious how you approached it. I have a Crave and a TD-3, you could say an Edge is an obvious next addition when the next round of GAS hits.
Thanks Jon! I listened to the G performance whilst recording the D performance. So it's me responding to what's already there. I chose G and D because they are a perfect 4th apart. So they are consonant together. This would have allowed me to add an additional melody. But I didn't really feel I could fit anything in, so I abandoned that idea.
Anyway, I'm sure the Edge would be a lovely accompaniment for your TD-3 and Crave.
@@electronictiger cool, thanks for explaining your approach. Is that a perfect 4th or a perfect 5th though? Not trying to be pedantic, a genuine question as I’m trying to get my head round theory. G up to D a perfect 5th? G down to D a descending perfect 4th? I dunno 😀
@@jonmaddison Sorry, my bad. Indeed, a perfect 5th as the D is higher than the G. I originally started on a lower D but that sounded messy. Too many low frequencies. So I went an octave up. But I didn't change my way of thinking about it. Thanks for pointing it out! I mean that sincerely.
@@electronictiger awesome, I may well do some similar experimenting with my Crave. All the best.
@@jonmaddison Go for it! If you ended up with a video of it be sure to post a link and I'll check it out.
nice jam. i like the edge, it can go places dfam can't sonically, but also vice versa.
😊 nice 🎉
Thanks mate!
Thanks for the video! Amazing sound! I want to start with the Beringer's synths ... which two synths would you recommend for the beginning?
Thanks BPEMETO! What Behringer synths I would recommend really depend on what music you want to make. But the 2600 is extremely versatile and just generally awesome. And I also love the Kobol Expander. Which has a very different sound. I adore the Pro-1, you can't go wrong with that one. I'm considering its polyphonic brother, the Pro-800. Hope this helps!
@@electronictiger Thanls! : ) For sure I would get some of these one day, but right now I'm an absolute beginner with analog synths ... I was thinking something more like The Cave and The Edge or TD-3-MO and RD-6. The type of music I want to create is more like in your video. No external keyboard ... just knobs and sound and rhythm : )
@@BPEMETO Then the Crave and Edge are excellent choices indeed. Go for it! You'll have loads of fun.
@@electronictiger Thanks! : ) And one more thing .... What additional gear would you recommend getting with the synths ? I've just realized that If I have several of them, I'll probably need at least an audio mixer of some kind.
@@BPEMETO An audio interface for sure. Get one with more inputs than you think you'll need. And something to record into, a DAW. Can be anything really. I like Reaper and its inexpensive. And some cables to connect it all. If you've got more money to spend, buy some effect pedals. Delays are your freinds. Can be cheap guitar pedal. Keep your setup small, play, experiment and see what you need next.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤩🤩
Thanks!
Wait, an Electronic Rat must be friends with an Electronic Tiger, right?
YES! Absolutely.🔌🐀🔌🐅🔌

Nice trip. What was the other synth in the third picture doing? Pad?
Thanks Gunnar! Yes, the 2600 is doing the long pad notes that play there.
Cool . I use my edge very similar , and try to start out more synth sound like pads ect , but it just leads you into chill out rave , it’s filters are designed that way, after all it is a percussion instrument, and I find it very hands on , great for live performance, if that’s your thing , I try to stay away from its midi , it is annoying , but control voltage works ok , I have it links to its brother the crave , and a Drumbrute impact , via a Microfreak , a zoom multi effect and a sq-1 …
I like the edge more than my TD3, it can make comparable sounds and much more. The result is a often by random. If I had an idea what I want, I better use my Neutron. But for bass lines or a background Melody I like the edge. For kicks it is nice, but not my favourite synth. I wished it has sawtooth waveform.
I used it a lot in my song ruclips.net/video/QWkDHOq2_9k/видео.htmlsi=jvqLaxoidPlCeIUh
it sounds very good. u use 2 edge?
Thank you Hauptmann! No, I double tracked using the same Edge. But maybe I should get myself a 2nd Edge?
@@electronictiger No, this would only make sense in a live setup.
@@hauptmannderbiertrinkerbri7760 True, very true.
awful
Cool, I'm genuinely appreciative of you letting me know how you feel. And I'm also curious to why you think it's awful. Not as judgment or anything. Just curious.
