Under this remote, you can find a cache-based remote control for your Ricoh GR ii. All important functions can be controlled through your iPhone, iPad, iPod or Android device. Unfortunately, the setup is somewhat awkward, and you can't monitor during video capture. If you're still interested, here's a quick how-to.

THANK YOU!! For the setting up of wifi info... This put me leaps and bounds ahead of the game! For that, I give you a thumbs up and of course, a "Subscribe" button activation!! The RICOH Version I have is the GRIIIx and it hasn't changed much since the GRII like you have. This is quite the power house camera - full of incredible options packed away inside that tiny little pocket size time freezer and as such, makes one remember all of what to do in order to get the critter working. Thanks again!

I always find your videos amusing, great dry sense of humour. I actually like the GR Remote app but you do need to read the instructions. If you have a phone that cannot use cellular and wifi connections at same time you have to use the cached version for it to work. Video is so rubbish on GR anyway the lack of monitor doesn't bother me. What I do like is the app lets you download jpg and raw files without having to carry an SD card dongle for phone. Most apps only transfer JPG. It's not intuitive but if time is taken to learn it's quirks it actually works really well.

@@Patrick-yc3tf Not tried those cards but they typically use their own app to transfer files and just look like a normal SD card to the camera so I don't see why not. I had Eye-Fi years ago but they long since closed so problem might be getting software that runs on more recent computers/phones. Eye-Fi was coincidentally purchased by Ricoh but closed 4 years ago. Good luck.

I have similar issues on Android. Garbage, garbage, garbage. Bluetooth asks me for a nonexistent PIN to connect. Wifi connects but the app is garbage and won't transfer anything.

I'm suspecting if you're going to do vloging you could just connect via the HDMI port, expect would be a strain on the processor to stream live video via wifi, I generally use incognito mode is I'm not that keen on my browsing history being cached....

when I turn on my Ricoh's Wifi, I get a GR-xxxxx number showing up in that list of who's on the wifi network... I (assume) its the camera so I click on it and it asks for the wifi password in order for me to log in on that particular address. Now here's the funny thing about it... It disallows me to connect to that wifi by repeatedly displaying the same pop up window on the screen (I run the latest Mac OS as of Feb 2022) asking me to enter the correct wifi password.. if I turn off my camera's wifi, the wifi list of active logins no longer shows that GR xxxxx Address... I do this several times (turn on/off camera's wifi) and it appears/disappears off the computer's wifi user list.... I'm stumped!!!

What Android app are people using for wireless transfer? Image Sync fails in more ways than I thought possible. Maybe I should call Ricoh support .... Oh wait....

Sorry to hear that. But isn't it comforting to know that this remote is not great anyway?
If you are going to return your camera, I recommend Fuji, they have a pretty nifty phone remote that works great (at least on IOS, not sure about Android, but that should be easy to find out.) Good luck!

Thanks, I have Fuji gear, the xt20 Wi-Fi and remote work just fine. I bought the Ricoh as a carry around camera, so I will stick with it as it is a great little camera. I still have an old Ricoh gr1v and loved shooting with it.

So basically the only difference between the GR and the GR II is the wireless which is virtually useless imho. The only thing it could be useful for would be the remote control. But they haven't thought of making a dedicated app (seriously????). So you'd need to be online, load a page, write the password etc. etc...... What if I'm traveling in a remote country without a phone connection? I can't use the remote control then? This doesn't make any sense to me! I would buy the GR if I find a new one but it can no longer be found so guess I'll pay 200$ more for a useless wireless...
