  • Today we are going on a little jalan jalan on Banda Neira. Banda Neira used to be home to the VOC, the wealthiest company in the history of the world. This is an island that is full of history but unfortunately, it doesn't get visited very often. There are so many crumbling forts and houses that some of the richest people in the world used to call home. Today, I explore with Mr. Rey and we check out some of the old Dutch ruins.

That rich man's home is so big, it's a pity those paintings weren't taken away or collected! The historic buildings aren't well maintained either, and I'm sad for that!
VOC (founded in 1602 and declared bankrupt in 1798), the Netherlands colonized not only Indonesia, but also Taiwan after Indonesia!
After Indonesia, Taiwan was also colonized for 38 years. The difference is that the buildings and forts at that time are still well preserved in Taiwan.
Some of them have become national monuments and popular tourist attractions in downtown Tainan!
This episode is very informative and historical, thank you for taking us on a tour and explaining it in detail! The wedding at the end was the highlight, you did a real great job! 👍😄👏

Menurut sejarah dari nenek saya sebenarnya Belanda dan Jepang tidak berniat menjajah
    Tapi Belanda berdagang (VOC)
Sedangkan Jepang minta bantuan tenaga( prajurit)
Terus kenapa di jajah itu karena nenek moyang kita terlalu"BAIK" sehingga ke waspadaan kurang
Sehingga timbullah niat Belanda untuk menguasai 😭😭😭

Renovating that house and make an exhibition is a great idea but 1. where to find the money? 2. are there enough tourists there who'd want to visit it? 3. who would do it?? Also, "fill the rooms with stuff like it used to be"... where would they find those objects, except by making replicas? Furniture decays a lot faster than walls.

That's fruit is sapodilla we call it "sawo"
That's building still in good condition but a bit spooky.yeah should do some renovations and furnishings but must take pictures before the renovations so people will know and visit the place to remember or imagine.
Nick if you go to Jawa island (Surabaya have a lots or other city) buy more batik shirt for you or for your friends ,buy in the mall or market there's a lot of variety/pattern and good price and you can bargain , you also can buy "daster" for your mother, sister and niece.

A nice vlog plot twist at the end of the video. Although not as friendly as Mr. Sulaiman, Rey really tries to provide good service as a tour guide.

Nick I can see that you are interested and know quite a lot about the history of the VOC in the East Indies or some part of Indonesia today.. I suggest you to read the novel from e.s.Ito (Indonesian writer) entitled Secret of Medee, it is a very good book. Dan Brown's writing style but still has its own uniqueness from the author's style and it reveal much interesting fact about VOC and others history in east indies. You can download it in pdf on the internet but unfortunetly i think there isn't yet the english version of it..

Gosh.. there were so many elite Dutch houses that were very luxurious & beautiful at that time & still look magnificent. And it's true that maybe it can be used as a cultural heritage or tourist attraction.
Anyway, "Wajik" is a typical Javanese snack (especially Central Java)..
