I hate watching your videos sometimes. You always make them to a point of where it gives me just enough confidence to do it myself instead of taking it to a shop...lol. Thanks for all of the XVS1100 videos man. They have been an absolute life(and wallet!!!) saver!
This video makes me want a similar pod kit on my XVS650. This comes after seeing your other videos on the ignition system and I diganosed that my front cylinder wasn't sparking... I thought I had to replace the front ignition coil, turns out once I got to it the plug had just come off! Repaired the loose connection (as well as the other lead which also felt too loose) and I hope to be back on the road tomorrow. Thanks heaps Jordan!
Always love your videos. Why does the MaxAir kit say to adjust floats to 14mm? I haven’t seen any other POS set ups instruct to adjust the floats? Do you know the lodging / science / benefit to doing this?
Hey bud so I really hope you see this question. My vstar 1100 won't run off the choke, which brings me to your video. But when getting to the carb, I noticed there was no air filter. I just bout the thing so I'm not sure how long if at all it was ran without. That being said, I'm wondering if theres anything else I need to do besides ofcorse putting a filter in, to make it run/ last longer
I am thinking of getting the same pod kit for my vstar 1100 as what you have to replace the stock air box. I have also been looking at the spiked cone filter that would mount on the right side. Would this be a choice of either the spiked cone filter or the pod kit but not both?
Awesome video!! have you noticed any variance in the gas consumption either way after installing this kit? How many miles per tank are you getting before hitting reserve?
I also would like to know. MaxAir and related testimonies claim an increase from 35-40 mpg to 40-45 mpg. I currently get anywhere from 28 to 38 mpg, or from 90 to 120 miles before reserve. This is too little for me. Doing 80 down the interstate even for a short sprint drinks the gas. I guess the Vstar is a Flying Brick, as they say.
@@SuperJAWman speed has a lot to do with mileage tho. Mine has 100% stock intake and currently stock exhaust with straight through mufflers, 2-2. Im in the mountains in Australia and hilly everywhere, at 62-65mph on the highway here I get about 44 USmpg. As it was from previous owner, has 120,000km- 74,000miles on it
@@retrotechandelectronics great video. This might seem like a stupid question but what is the off idle to mid range power like with the pod kit vs stock? I know many rave about the pod kits but some, including some shops say CV carbs (used on the 1100) actually lose power except for a gain at the top end? I believe I can trust you to give unbiased feedback on how you found it. My first time with motorcycle carbs ect, V8s before. Thanks
This video is great and extremely helpful thank you! Do you have any type of master listing of all the parts on your bike? I see a tach, kuryakyn grips, and many electronics. Just curious if you have a listing so I can check some out as I have this same model. thanks!
So I recently bought an 06 V Star 1100 with approximately 61k miles for 1000 dollars. Bought it from a kid who was looking to flip it but he wasn't very mechanically inclined as the bike only ran with choke on, seems like a classic plugged up jet issue. I recently serviced the carbs based on your videos (THANK YOU!) and now have the bike running pretty well. The bike came with Vance&Hines pipes which sound amazing except for a popping under deceleration especially 1st and 2nd gear. Now the air intake system is stock (unlike yours), so my guess is that the popping is unburnt fuel detonating in the exhaust system, is there a way to cure that without removing and rejetting carbs? Also is it unhealthy for the bike.. if it isn't, well I guess I could live with it. Thanks!
I really like your videos and I got a question for you, I'm planning to buy a 2005 v star with 35,000 miles, and guy is asking $3200. Bike is all stock and virtually it is in great shape. Do you think it's a good deal? And while checking and taking a test drive, what should I inspect?
I paid 1k for my 01 vstar 1100 then again it also sat for many yrs but the guy had added all the upgrades exhaust hypercharger amd re jet custom paint but that's not a bonus to me I'd say I paid for a bike that needs work if it was fresh clean good to go never sat for yrs I'd say milage wise I'd offer the guy 2 k but I'm here cause I wanna know if the max air is better then my hypercharger I assume yes cause the black sleeve falls off that can't be good but I learned everything from this guy
I put some slips on in my bike vstar 1100 and now I have backfiring issues if i put this new air system Wil be stop the problem or need chance jet kit too
It is the Air Injection System (AIS). It is an emissions reduction system that is supposed to burn unburnt fuel in a stock 2 pipe system. When you switch, it means more popping and backfires as the system is working as it was intended. It can be eliminated but don't do it if you have to still smog it or it isn't exempt.
Yes might’ve updated it. My pods have been on over 10 years I think floats are set at 12mm sluggish highway performance I might change to 14mm stock settings and go from there thank you for the reply
@@retrotechandelectronics Agreed :D I just looked at the video out of curiosity. I watched all your videos regarding the 1100 as I recently bought one and I am planning to service it myself in the future. But I am planning on keeping the bike as stock as possible though. Thank you for the videos!
@@coopidon I thought I might also keep mine completely stock, but after a few months of riding and doing some research about the MaxAir kit, it sounds like a tremendous amount of power and economy can be realized from this modification. Tremendous! Stock main jet is roughly 115, the new kit requires a 142. That says something!!!
A waste of money and effort. The VStar is not a performance bike. Re-jetting, straight pipes and forced air induction will cost almost $1000.00. And for what? Eight more horsepower?
That's your choice. I have an '09 in mint condition with 7k mi on it for which I paid $1,000. All it needed was new tires and a carb rebuild. To me it sounds like a good investment.

So…. Yes. But it all comes down to the ability to burn more gas. That said. Driven casually there was no consumption increase

What are the slip-ons that you installed? Many of the recommendations that I've seen for aftermarket pipes are no longer available.
They came with the bike, many years ago, try jpcycles

Awsone video bro do have a website were you got the pod kit iam looking to do the upgrade and how much do they run
Google maxair pod kit and the site should come up
Let’s pretend I don’t have the carb sync tool but want to install these.
Suggestion on the approach, or should I really get the synch tool?
You would get a sync tool.
What size are the pod filter inlet ?
Any issues with these getting wet if caught riding in rain?
No, The pods are seated under the tank and not exposed to water.
Great video
Thanks!

hot air from engine travels up andnwill ekter this air filter
Hot air travels back not up. Motorcycles aren’t stationary in operation. I don’t understand the concern.
It's too cumbersome just for an air filter.
