You know why the subsequent movies were increasingly less successful? It's because they were increasingly less faithful to the source material, leaving out more of the story and putting in garbage that wasn't supposed to be there. If I come to see Narnia on the screen, I want to see Narnia, not some goofball hollywood weirdo's ideas about how they can "make it better." If your ideas are better, do an original work. Don't use someone else's work to try to boost yourself.

I just hope any reboot is kept as close to the books as possible and they leave out any woke crap. I would love to see all seven books done. From the second book on they would need to be filmed fairly soon after each other so the children don’t age out. They are wonderful books full of symbolism that deserve to be treated with respect by whoever is making them for the big or small screen.

C.S. Lewis described Aslan as the answer to the question "What might Christ become like if there really were a world like Narnia, and He chose to be incarnate and die and rise again in that world as He actually has done in ours?". If Netflix and the show runners find that idea horribly offensive and see it as their job to "rehabilitate" Lewis, then their version of CoN will probably fail.

My advice to Netflix and Greta Gerwig is to approach their Narnia production as Jackson approached LOTR: with utmost respect for the source material and the author.
CS Lewis, one of the literary geniuses of the 20th century, intentionally wrote Narnia as a Christian allegory for children and parents to enjoy and be inspired by. The stories are already rich. The characters are authentic and their arcs are meaningful. And the themes of the narrative are inherently powerful, universal, and relevant.
If the series creators bring these to life vividly and artistically, they will be rewarded with critical and popular success.
If, on the other hand, they chose to leverage Narnia’s existing popularity as a platform for their own political and social messaging, they will lose worse than Amazon is losing on Rings of Power.
Woke Hollywood is dead. Bury it and go back to basics. Great storytelling that thrills, moves, and inspires the widest audiences.

Thus he created the Ents and they are slow moving beings, but they observe everything and suffer everything. Narnia is hard to make into a series because each book isn't always a continuation from the prior book. It's not one long epic story like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. It's hard for an audience who hasn't read the books to understand the jumps in the storyline and characters that come in/out of the story.

Netflix needs to take a lesson from the most successful film adaptation of fantasy of all time: the "Lord of the Rings" movies. Director Peter Jackson approached the project with a deep sense of humility. Some changes from the book needed to be made to accommodate what worked in film, but the base story and themes had to be Tolkein's. If the project ever turned into Peter Jackson's storytelling, the project was doomed.
Many recent Netflix adaptations have added contemporary and frankly "woke" themes into classic and even historical stories. Any hint of that in Narnia would quickly make the series a pariah among the target audience. Some changes from the books will be necessary, but any conflicts or themes which don't come from C. S. Lewis could quickly doom this project. It will only succeed if it is seen as Lewis's story.

In theory, I think this is fine. In practice, Netflix and Greta Gerwig have no hope of doing this with any kind of fidelity to the Christian sentiments that deliberately saturated Lewis' work. By hating his Christian beliefs, they could only hope to make garbage wrapped in his work's name. They want to make money off of fantasy, not tell C.S. Lewis' story. It's a shame, because all of the acting talent and technology are available to actually make the movies great.

The BBC version of the Chronicles of Narnia 1988, did 4 of the 7 books but did each movie in a Mini Series fashion and stayed true to the books. The animation is cheesy and all the special effects are dated but it is about the story that people have come to love it.
The Reboot of the series started off really well but Prince Caspian was a let down , but the book and BBC version wasn't great either. The Voyage of the Dawn Trader was Terrible because it needs to be a mini series or multiple movies to really do the story justice.
Lastly, the Chronicles of Narnia was written as a Children's book series as a Direct Allegory of the Bible and Christianity.
You CANNOT do the books Justice if YOU water down these themes and key aspects of the story and Dialog.
If you do the whole thing will fall apart like a Deck of Cards.
Those Christian Allegories and Key Lines like
    'But is he Safe?
Safe? Of course He isn't Safe. But He is good'
Also Ustice turning from a Dragon into a Boy again has so much more to it with Aslan, it was just sad in rhe Dawn Tredor. Also the Island of Dreams is completely different and so much more significant in the Book and BBC version. The added plot details and scenes were just shallow fantasy fluff.

The Narnia adaptations have always suffered because there is a perception that the Narnia series is intended for children. Indeed the books were intended for children, but not ONLY for children. To appreciate them as Lewis wrote them requires some familiarity with medieval literature and chivalric romances, and Reepicheep the Mouse is as good a sly comment on the cult of chivalry as _Don Quixote_. I love the Narnia stories and will watch any version that makes it to the screen, but I would also love to see a big-budget modern version of Lewis's so-called Space Trilogy, the 3 novels beginning with _Out of the Silent Planet_. The last of these, _ That Hideous Strength_ is one of my favorite novels, and one I reread at least once or twice a year. The ending of that book is tremendously satisfying as the world is made whole and wholesome once again. The Space Trilogy is also a commentary on the Arthurian Legends, as is made explicit by Merlin appearing as a character, and using the name Ransom for the main character brings in the Christian subtext in a way which is rather heavy-handed, but not obnoxiously so, echoing some of the original Arthurian romances with characters like Parcival. I could go on for paragraphs, but I'll stop now...

How about using BBC versions of LLW, PC, VoDT, and SC as base to make Magician's Nephew and Horse and His Boy. Last Battle, eeeeh, not sure I want anyone touching that book. I'm even hesitant on Magician's Nephew.
I agree with some of these people here. No more reboots. I was fine with Disney LWW. The other two were either meh or just downright tragedy. BBC versions best in my opinion. Grew up on those. Loved them. Seemed to stick closer to book than whatever Disney did (glares mainly at PC and VoDT😒🙄). I don't want 2nd reboots, especially if they're not going to remain 97-99% faithful to book, and also set out to anger me and tear my heart into pieces (looks again at Disney).

Truthfully I am happy that is going beyond the first 3, because the first one was animated at first but do love the Disney version. The rest I’ll see for my self I am a big fan of The Chronicles of Narnia, my children & grandchildren have even fell in love with this movie. Honestly I would love to see a reboot that is more faithful to the books. I think the Disney movies were very aesthetically pleasing but a lot of things bothered me about the story line and things they changed. I DONT think Netflix should be the ones to do it though. maybe one day we’ll have a narnia series that is both faithful to the books and adapted well to movie form.

My only fear is that they will make Diggory a meek wimpy coward who will be cowed by Polly who will be strong independent assertive and dominant girl that will constantly put Diggs down, as well as belittle him. And should they do the next book, the boys are either useless or replaced by girls. Those, and they might turn Aslan into a lioness.

I liked how Netflix adapted a series of unfortunate events from book to screen. Where they got each book and split it into one or more episodes to cover the whole book. If I were Netflix I think this approach would work best for everyone involved. Since I know there is also talks about making Narnia into a tv show since they want to rival Game of thrones. That is a tall order since there is only 7 books in the series and I’m not sure how you can possibly expand it any further. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Idk, perhaps it’s better they decided 3 films and then later they can flesh out the other books in some other way

    • @Rose_nouveau

Each season could cover 1 book, that way they can get through all the stories, and they have more time than a 2 hour movie to cram everything in.
It also means if they cancel, at least 1 season covers 1 book with all the details in it.

First time was the BBC which made it all the way through to the Silver Chair; second was the recent three movies, and then there was an animated film of Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe. So, first book adapted 3 times, second and third books adapted twice, and fourth book adapted once. That’s weird! I just hope Barbie director doesn’t go off script and insult men.

My only hope is that ALL the books get made, not just x3 or 2...the world has so much in it! So its promising to hear they'll start at the beginning with Magician's nephew.
That aside, the creatures need to look as good if even better than those movies. The Aslan was so perfect, it still rivals 'the lion king' live action movie lions created many years later.
We also need to remember that the book series was already created by the BBC originally, and the Disney movies were a remake already.
Im curious to see how Netflix handles it as I very much enjoyed how Damsel was made.
I half wonder if the reboot should be a tv show instead of separate movies, because they could likely fit so much more of the books into each season.

Make the movies from the actual books. I was listening to the Chronicles of Narnia from Douglas Gresham, from Family Radio.
