Boomer - I think you might find it very interesting to read a technical paper on "Speaker System Design for Small Model Trains" written by JT Burke from Scale Sound Systems. He is a single person business owner who sells speakers with his own designed enclosures. I'd be the first to tell you that I'm not an expert on sound systems, but I've been using JT's data to design my own 3D printed enclosures with sugar cube speakers that I bought from Mouser, that I've been using on my new decoder installs. You can find his technical paper on his website at www.scalesoundsystems.com under the menu title "design". He also has a RUclips channel "jt burke" that has some great installs on different types of locomotives. Hope you find this helpful and educational as much as I did. Thanks for another great video!
Thank You Mike. I always appreciate you. Respectfully, I read the paper. However, I consider it to be an incomplete paper. Although sound technology, on a micro level, is as much an art as a science, as he did mention (quote), "it’s still a lot of design-listen-measure, design-listen-measure, design-listen-measure." Furthermore, he does not allow the community to comment on his sample videos restricting a round-table discussion on the subject. At the end of the day, sound is subjective to each individual. In addition, I do not agree with his claim that "Coupled Arrays" (multiple speaker applications) are less effective or negatively affect sound integrity outside of his study. Why? Because he never demonstrated the varied coupling factors for different size enclosures and speakers when combined with varied body shells , etc. -- not to mention the quality of 16 bit sound recordings which vary as well. e.g. GE and EMD recorded sound files vary dramatically in these situations. If he had included the latter in the paper, I would have given him higher marks. Conclusively, good research . . . but incomplete as a convincing paper in my opinion - Boomer. Cheers.
Great overview of sound and enclosures. I have a loco that my friend did for me with a enclosed factory IPHONE 5 speaker and it's sound is fantastic. There are alot of ways to go. But to me in the end it comes down to the sound file. The better the file the better the sound.
I agree with you on that one. On the other hand, as you will soon hear, there is a difference when it comes to particular speaker application. The only kicker is what to settle for . . . lol. Cheers.
Wonderful opening comments Boomer. I have been in exactly the same position and am still here, alive and kicking, through the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
A while back at the Woodstock train show I watch an old timer ask why he didn't have sound , he said if you want sound go work for a real railroad . I was glad in away cause I was going to ask the same question of him ! Ps I do like sound though .
I can`t argue with the old timer there. On the other hand, a good quality sound locomotive shunting cars around raises the immersion factor to ten. Cheers.
Thank You. I am somewhat familiar with the MRL (Montana Rail Link). I believe Washington Corp owns MRL along with several other railroads (including SRY, assets, etc). I met him, and sort of knew him (serviced one of his aircraft in Vancouver B.C.), back in my aviation days around the time he acquired SRY (Southern British Columbia Rail) in the early nineties. During that time I had free access to SRY shops and yard. Right now, I just model and collect the SRY roster among a few other Canadian roads I have on the back burner . Thanks for asking. Cheers - Boomer.
ty so much im a hot mess, oddly i felt better during the chemo treatments, hence my finger fumbles chemo fingernails and chemo brain, kind not good but im alive

Well done on thinking about others in your prayers - and saying so online. God Bless.
Thank You and God Bless you too friend. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing. You have a fine day too.
Thank You Vincent. Cheers.
That is great. Like the weathering as well
Thank You! Cheers.

If it wasn't for the Lord's Grace, I would be dead ten times over. Cheers. ~ Boomer.

Awsome fleet, love that mp15. So do you model the MRL in Montana, or just collect the locomotives?

It`s ironic all my EMD locomotives run great except for my GE Dash 8 . . .which needs to go back in the shop.
Just like real history. Lol.

Thank You for letting me know about this. My prayers are with you - Boomer.
